Everyone welcome!

Here you can, for one month:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As we are coverning more ground, to avoid confusion, I'll be posting links early in the morning on the relevant day.

Good luck!

Hi all

Am going to need a bit of nagging today!
Putting off deciding what to cook on Sunday when PIL come round(eek!) therefore can't go to Tescos yet. As I write this I know it sounds pathetic.....

So today:
decide what to cook
buy ingredients!!
buy DD some school shoes(this is harder than you think as she's 14!!but I am sick of her coming home with wet feet because she wears ballet pumps with no proper sole...)
sort out family birthday pressies and wrap
wash rugby kit - again!

God - I'm going to need wine tonight, white for me too. I'll bring the thai chilli crisps

optimisticmumma · 09/10/2009 08:56

Should add before you all say 'cook a roast you muppit!' I am expecting between 7 and 10 people and probably won't know exactly how many until they turn up...it's a loooong story! So am thinking 2 sorts of casseroly things with rice!

Going out for coffee with a friend now just to procrastinate a bit longer!!

dreamteamgirl · 09/10/2009 09:14

Hi OM

How about a pasta bake for one dish and a chicken chasseur for the other? I suggest it as that was what I made for DS' birthday lunch when expecting between 15-20 (?!) I also made a fishpie. As you say stuff with rice is easy as you can eak it out. Also if you buy a couple of those microwave rice things so if you run short you can have more ready in 2 mins

Morning All

Just checking in for CTGH's words of wisdom .

Feeling a bit more human today and was very pleased when I saw the mission as I got a bit carried away this morning and vacuumed downstairs so giving the kitchen floor a quick mop a bit later will be fine!

Started my control journal last night and have ditched my excel spreadsheet - a bit unline me but I think I need to have this on paper. Have daily routines for working days, non-working days and weekends, weekly tasks (needs some work) and started thinking about monthly tasks.

My parents are arriving this morning so they can run around after DS while I lie on the sofa!

Snitch so glad you got the all clear - remember to take it a bit easy though (although I know how exciting housework can be ). Ellie sorry to hear DD still poorly, poor love. Love the Henry Ford DTG, it is so true.

The sun is shining here, hope it is where you are too.

MiniMarmite · 09/10/2009 09:43

Oh, and DWM - that was an early start, poor you and a busy day ahead by the looks of it. Take it easy a bit if you can.

snorkie · 09/10/2009 09:53

Morning all,

I didn't get around to the oven yesterday as the weather was too nice & the allotment called me. Today is nice too so I shall mop the floor & go & plant some garlic.

positiveattitudeonly · 09/10/2009 10:20

Morning all

How busy is everyone on here??? Madness!

MMM - Hope the sickness starts to improve soon. As for getting a slow cooker, I could not survive without mine. Wonderful to sort out a meal in the morning before work and just get home to dish it up. I use mine at least twice a week.

Elliepac - Or should I say my clone - hope DD gets better soon, cosy duvet day needed, although not too sure that little ones quite grasp the comfort of duvet days, do they? My office is now officially the tidiest. I have also, got wise to other people dumping stuff in here, much to my annoyance. They probably got away with it last year cos I wouldn't have noticed amongst my mess, but this year.... watch out!!

Mrs doolittle - Hope the appointment goes well. And well done on a spotless kitchen!

bigfoot + OM - what is it about Inlaws visiting. Luckily, I don't speak to mine! I endured snide remarks for years before putting my foot down. Actually, I think even MIL would be impressed with the house now, but I do not intend to ever put it to the test!

DTG - Also loving the Henry Ford quote.

Goldensnitch - pleased you have the all clear, but still take it easy! We will all check up on you!!

DWM - Do you feel as if it is bedtime yet? Its going to be a long day for you.

Enough scrolling up and down, so (((((HI))))) to everyone else!

A good morning start was rudely intruded by one of the cats bringing in a mouse playdate and going under the breakfast table to play, while we were having a peaceful breakfast. All hell broke loose and ended up with girls on chairs, me with broom nearly up cats bum, - He must be getting to like that, slightly worrying really! and a son laughing at us all. Stupid cats!!!
Up til that point the kitchen had been sorted, washing on and 7 x sandwiches done.
Had to leave for work and chaos was not quite abated although the mouse, now dead, was unceremoniously thrown to the bottom of the garden. Hopefully I can get home and bury it before the cat discovers it again and returns it to the house to eat it! {yuck}

Got to go and some work now, have a good day all.

paranoiabigdestroyer · 09/10/2009 10:25

I am confused. In today's babystep I am learning how to declutter but the fat fairy is also telling me to do a 5 minute room rescue.

What is a room rescue??? Is it the usual manic running around and tidying or am I supposed to be getting the hoover out?

pushmepullyou · 09/10/2009 10:26

Morning Fly-ers

I need serious motivating this morning. DD and I spent most of the night awake for no particular reason, just general can't-sleep-itis, so I'm feeling a bit shattered today!

I have put the washing on and still need to put the dishwasher on.

Today's list includes
take dry washing off radiators
hang wet washing on radiators
put more washing on
Wash the grubbiest bits of the kitchen walls
clear remaining clutter in kitchen
clean kitchen floor
go to tip
go to Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Wickes

paranoiabigdestroyer · 09/10/2009 10:36

Oh - and here's my list for today

Empty dishwasher done
Packed lunch and tidy kitchen done
Mop kitchen floor
One load in machine and on line done
Second load in machine and on line
Ironing and putting away laundry

Mini food shop for weekend and buy birthday present for a 10 year old girl
Drop trumpet off at DS's school for his lesson this afternoon (forgot it this morning

Quick declutter in baby's room

Room rescue somewhere when I understand what this is

Create something interesting for baby's lunch

Make a head start on cooking tonight's dinner

Sweep up in garden as rabbits have made horrendous mess.

Hoover downstairs, hall stairs and landings.

Busy busy busy!!!

fruitstick · 09/10/2009 10:39

Aaaah, I have fallen off the wagon in a big way over the past week.

Actually, that's not true. My sink is still shining and my morning and evening routine remain in tact which has meant my life will be a lot better to piece back together.

I starting my first freelance work on Monday so have been settling DS2 with this childminder and generally trying to get organised as a self-employed person. DH has decluttered the study and I'm all of a flap.

It's only 2 days a week and they are short days so I really need to be ultra organised to get everything done and still concentrate on my work. 1 day is from home so I will have to be very disciplined to not make the most of the DCs being out of the house by cleaning up and watching daytime TV .

I need tips on menu planning. Am going to try to dive back in with the flying over the weekend, rather than trying to catch up.

oh - and I've got a cold.

Hello to everyone, sorry I haven't had time to read all your progress.

elliepac · 09/10/2009 10:56

Mid-morning check-in. DD seems a bit perkier this morning so am actually managing to get something done.

paranoia am now going to attempt to post a link to room rescue. Have never ventured into this crazy technological event before so excuse me if it doesn't work.
www.flylady.net/pages/FLYFaq.asp#rescue

So far have:-
loaded/reloaded dishwasher
brought washing in
one laod washing on
cleared kitchen shined sink
taken pork out of freezer (poss too late how long will 3 pork chops take to defrost?)

Onwards and upwards.

elliepac · 09/10/2009 10:57

Yeah!! My link worked .

paranoiabigdestroyer · 09/10/2009 11:12

elliepac thank you and congrats on your techno wizardry!

Just passing through - have just given baby his morning bottle, started the hoovering and now away to hang up laundry - if the wee'un will co-operate with my plans...

optimisticmumma · 09/10/2009 11:52

Mid - morning check-in. Thanks DTG for the recipe ideas. Have now got organised and am going to do thai chicken and beef in beer. Also good idea about the pasta bake for my fussy 12 year old. With a bit of luck there'll be something left for Monday.
elliepac pleased to hear DD is perking up a bit and you can get things done. minimarmite your organisational skills are awesome. I've only got round to slightly altering DTG's master plan..Nice to see you back fruitstick and goldensnitch (don't go over doing it will you?)PBD your babysteps looking woolly-mammouth-sized to me.snorkie am of your allotment - the produce you understand not the hard work!
Phew - anyone I've missed hi!

OK what have I actually done today:

coffee with friend done
write shopping list done
Go shopping to doDrycleaningdone
wm on done twice
rugby kitdone
morning routinedone

See you all later

optimisticmumma · 09/10/2009 11:58

Got an idea...

Why don't we all post our 'family favourite' meal on here. One that is everyday and that most people in family will eat? Might give those doing meal-planning some ideas???

ATM my lot all likerealising they are older of course)

chicken fajitas
risotto with tomato and bacon
sticky ribs

I find I get totally bored with everyday cooking and end up doing the same thing so regularly it's almost pasta on Monday, sausages on Tuesday sort of thing.

Anyway - I would find it useful to hear what other people serve up mid-week...

optimisticmumma · 09/10/2009 11:59

whoops a random got into my post - bizarre!

pushmepullyou · 09/10/2009 12:32

OM I was wondering as I read your post why your lot all liked being sad!

Like the family meal idea, our favourites are pasta and tomato sauce with capers and chopped anchovies, cheesy vegetable bake (with walnuts for me and DH), home made baked beans either on toast or with a jackey potato and panfried salmon with cauliflower cream.

Lunchtime check in from me, and have miraculously done everything except going shopping. Hooray!!

tibni · 09/10/2009 12:48

Tried my interview suit on and it looked pant! So this morning I have been shopping and got a new one and a top to go under . Interview is Wednesday, they are going to send a full schedule out but starting time is 8.50am - so not sure if its going to be a full day thing with tests . With dh between contracts this job would really come in useful.

So not much done today, just the morning routine, and i'm going to hit the gym this afternoon so I will have to put a bit of effort in this evening.

droitwichmum · 09/10/2009 12:52

Anyone got the coffee on? zzzzzzzzzz

frazzled74 · 09/10/2009 13:40

have lapsed this week, but sink shiny and shoes on so going to start properly on monday. Our family favourite. salmon noodles and broccoli, cooked in a lemon, buttery sauce.

positiveattitudeonly · 09/10/2009 14:46

DWM - Kettles on!

OM - Paranoia is setting in with you talking about meals! Are you checking up on me??

I thought I would give you each DCs favourites:
DD1 -Homemade Shepherds Pie
DD2 -Stuffed chicken breast wrapped in Parma Ham
DD3 - Homemade lasagne
DS - Homemade Steak Pie
DD4 -Fajita's or toad in the hole
DH's favourite would be my curry.

They don't all get their favourites each week, but I try to give at least a couple of them their choice each week.

Off to do a little catch up as I have an evening of being MUM TAXI for DD2 to and from work and DS swimming training.

Catch up on the thread later, Hi to everyone.

elliepac · 09/10/2009 15:11

Afternoon,

well, so far so good.

3 loads of washing done
general tidy downstairs
bathroom cleaned (not just swished and swiped)
sink shiny
floors swept (am going to mop in the kitchen but no point until DC's go to bed)

As far as meals go i am the most unadventurous cook ever. In a normal week we may have the following fare:-

Shepherd's Pie
Pork Chops
Lasagne
Sausage Casserole
Chicken (lasts 2 days, one roast dinner and then either soup/chicken in gravy with onions)
Gammon
Stir Fry (Chinese, bought ready prepared from market ) and rice

DH is a firm meat and two veg man and will very rarely try anything new. Steak is his all time favourite. I make most things from scratch but that often depends on work.

Have just got back from docs. Say DD just has a viral infection, knew they would but thought it best to get checked out anyway.

Anyway, time to go and pick DS up. Even though DD has been ill, it's been nice to be at home with her and to do 'normal' mum things like take DS to school etc. If only I were rich...

droitwichmum · 09/10/2009 15:58

PAO - thanks for the coffee, much better now having a quick slurp before going home. Have to fly out on Fridays to pick DS up from after school club - DH at work still and no idea what time he will finish.

Good news though - I phoned the school to double check the parents meeting was on and its not. The letter had the wrong day on it so I don't have to try to work out how I was going to pick up DS, take him home and either park him with my sister (with NO notice) or take him back with me on foot (assuming DH is still at work). Stress levels reducing rapidly.

So plan is to get home (by around 6) and start pottering around, doing my jobs followed by an early night. I'll be uncorking the wine around 9

walkthedinosaur · 09/10/2009 16:17

Had a funny old week, some days I've managed to get things done and others I've been reduced to just keeping the sink shiny and a swish and swipe.

On the meal thing DS1 bless him will eat anything but DS2 has definite firm favourites and at the moment they are homemade lasagne and home made chicken pie, I normally do a roast chicken dinner one day then pie the next. 95% of stuff in our house is made from scratch, although when I made a pizza the other day DS2 refused to eat it and told me to go to the shop and get a proper one! He's demanding crumpets for tea tonight and as I've had a busy afternoon with work and having to sort out some admin stuff I'm going to go along with it.

I'm thinking I might do some jobs tonight when the DC's are in bed and then I won't have to worry about fat fairies and flying over the weekend. No DH this weekend either so just me and the DC's.

I like other people's meal ideas I might start to pinch some. When people are meal planning are they doing it for the week or month? All I know at the moment is I'm goiong to make leek and potato soup tomorrow and use up some of the stuff out of the freezer.

If I don't get back here everybody have a good weekend, I'll join you all in a glass of wine around 9.00 ish
