God help me if Xenia ever sees this - do you ever find yourself consciously making sure the pegs match?

I do actually have a 'real' job.

If it's my turn to peg out laundry, I can't bear mismatched pegs.

It actually riles me when DH does it.

Do I need the support of a mental health professional?

Oh, snigger, forgot to say that I am really a mental health professional. My colleagues would just roll their eyes at me if I confessed to this obsession.

thell · 17/06/2009 21:15

Wheelybug, what do you attach it to? If it's for camping, do you have to hook it onto stakes?

PMSL at 'is it bunting?' !!

VeraChuckandDave · 17/06/2009 21:23

I am very anal about how I hang washing out, but have never sought to match by peg colour. Not even sure what colour my pegs are.

I do have 3 types of pegs (one type very much my pegs of last resort) and I do try to match peg types on any given garment.

How did my life come to this.....

Wheelybug · 17/06/2009 21:23

no idea thell - haven't been camping in about 20 years - I just guessed thats what its for because its not really long enough for every day use. I have it hooked round part of the wendy house and a rose archy thing.

ilovesprouts · 17/06/2009 21:30

no i dont put the same colour pegs on the line. im not sad ,its only washing one of my neighbours always puts the same colour pegs on her washing ,

Tn0g · 17/06/2009 21:33

Oh God, I'm a complete and utter looper when it comes to hanging out washing.

Washing line is disguised by Tibetan prayer flags which is actually bloody annoying because they get very tangled up with the clothes and pegs and I end up losing all calm Buddhist thoughts as I wrestle a pair of knickers or T-shirt from the frayed fluttering flags.

Pegs have to be those old-fashioned wooden dolly pegs which are useless.

We get high winds here and they don't keep clothes attached to line and also wood rots in the rain and leaves dirty marks on clothes, but still I persist.

sweetkitty · 17/06/2009 21:35

I have all the same pegs but the washing has got to be hung out in a very particular way and if the DDs have matching tops I hang them together too.

theDreadPirateRoberts · 17/06/2009 21:39

I had to throw away recycle the coloured pegs which came with the peg basket and get wooden ones instead, because they do have to match or you will die

nickytwotimes · 17/06/2009 21:42

I am pretty anal re hanging out of washing, but I have never even thought of matching the pegs.

Till now.

Thanks for the

nickytwotimes · 17/06/2009 21:43

That last line should have read "Thanks for THAT".

The other part of my cure (after realising that pegs didn't have to match) was the realisation that plastic pegs are better because they don't go slimy and leave marks on one's pristine laundry.

ilovesprouts · 17/06/2009 22:06

i only use the plastic pegs eg tregs ,domt use wooden ones at all

snigger · 17/06/2009 22:41

So, consensus opinion:

we're all sluts or OCD freaks.

theDreadPirateRoberts · 17/06/2009 22:50

Yep. In a viperish way.

blueshoes · 17/06/2009 23:28

I don't use pegs but hang out clothes on an airer.

I am obsessive that they have to be stretched out to 'minimise' ironing and hung to maximise the surface area for drying. Ideally no 2 items of clothing should touch.

I inspect them as they are drying and take in my handiwork. Then as some items dry faster, take them off and rotate those that are still drying to get even more efficiency.

HaventSleptForAYear · 18/06/2009 09:18

Well despite my goggling at the Cath Kidston washing line (I wasn't too far off the mark with TnOg's tibetan prayer flags, was I? )

I have to admit to the fiddling and turning clothes on the airer and rehanging stuff Dh or the DS have dumped hung there.

I don't even have the excuse of saving on the ironing anymore because my cm does it for me.

But it irks me to see all those clothes bunched up drying unevenly.

[discovers OCD tendancies in herself despite having come to sneer at matching pegs

BonsoirAnna · 18/06/2009 09:20

I match up pairs of socks and pants and vests/bras into their sets when hanging them up to dry. And they all have to be facing the same way

meep · 18/06/2009 09:25

lol at wheely's CK washing line!

My pegs have gone rusty - but I do have to hang my socks out in matching pairs!

Also have to sort out clothes hung out by dh.

ChopsTheDuck · 18/06/2009 09:33

I am loving the condom analogy! I have a condom! It is good though, cos then the line doesn't NEED to be wiped.

I don't do matching pegs, but dp thinks I am anal for lining the socks up on it in pairs.

chim000 · 18/06/2009 09:36

I am very anal particular about my washing. Pegs match - colour & type. A certain type of peg for certain types of clothes. I don't take my pegs off but I do make sure that they are left on so that they can be easily slid along the line. If anyone puts a peg on so that it can't move, boy is there trouble.

wastingmyeducation · 18/06/2009 09:53

I don't wipe the line unless I can see dirt, I try to match peg type, but not colour and I don't exactly have a particular way of hanging things up, rather it's just the way I do it.
Eg. hang sleepsuits up by the crotch. I didn't even think about it til DH pegged some out by the sleeves and it looked like little babies hanging on the line.

However, pegs being left on the line really upsets me.
It's messy and dirty and doesn't even save time.

Actually, do you think we can get a WWXD? section on MN?

ABetaDad · 19/06/2009 07:32

Oh yes indeed. If I use 2 pegs to say hang a shirt I have to use 2 that are the same colour. Howwever, I cannot have two pairs of pegs next to each othe on the line that are the same colour. The pairs have to alternate.

I also do not like it if there are an odd number of pegs in the peg tin. I have to have a spare on hidden in the cupboard so I can put it in the tin if one say gets broken or gets lost.

Pegs cannot stay on the line on their own.

Luckily we have a dryer and use it most of the time so that has released me from this laundry hell.
