God help me if Xenia ever sees this - do you ever find yourself consciously making sure the pegs match?

I do actually have a 'real' job.

If it's my turn to peg out laundry, I can't bear mismatched pegs.

It actually riles me when DH does it.

Do I need the support of a mental health professional?

I've always been slightly embarassed about this and have never admitted it in public before but...

Pegs have to match (type and colour) and should always co-ordinate with item if possible - ie gren pegs on green clothes, socks must be hung together and in pairs to make them easier to pair up when dry, I only use alternate lines so that clothes are not hung too close together for drying efficiency and everyone's clothes should be hung together - with DS's little toddler things on the outside cause they're cutest. My humungous knickers are obviously in the middle to try and hide them from the neighbours

I really have a problem don't I!

And I always though the rule on hanging was "tops from bottom, bottoms from top"??

It's still never good enough for my MIL!

No peg issues here (except the feel of wooden pegs makes me cringe. Lolly sticks too for that matter!) But I only hang certain coloured washing on the line on certain days! I do a red, orange, brown and purple wash on a Friday night and hang it out on a Saturday morning evry week. I look lovingly at my colour co-ordinated Saturday washing line flapping in the breeze and I know its the weekend!

I'm married to a mental health professional. He thinks I'm a loon!

I don't match pegs at all - I rather like the multicoloured effect of three colours at random - but I do hang all the Bumble nappies together, the Bumgenius ones together, then socks all together, etc.

I tend to put pants to dry on the radiators inside so all the neighbours don't get to see my knickers!

I have a retractable washing line so it vanishes when not in use (well, when I bother!). It makes a very satisfying whee-chunk noise as it disappears back into its case!

I love seeing my washing line full of flapping white sheets and pillowcases. Not too fussed about peg colours, but I do match peg types. My favourites are the Lakeland plastic ones.
I know someone who hates the colour yellow so much she can't bring herself to use yellow pegs!

I adore hanging washing on the line. It is even on my FB profile. It makes me feel the same as when I take codeine.

Just something to add, I read a really awfully depressing book about Everything That Could Possibly Traumatise a Woman in Victorian England - that wasnt its real title - anyway the thing I really related to though was the one decent Mother in the book was very OCD and she always hung an item of her clothing on the line either side of her son's - to protect him. I actually thought yes that makes sense! and loved that washing line neurosis is so ancient.

I have one large set of pegs - they have 3 colours but the pegs themselves are the same & I bought 2 packs of them so I would have enough but I think I will go back and get another one if they still have them.

Also wrt hanging jeans I find the dry best if you do hang them from the top, but you only clip the back, so the front where the zip etc is sort of gapes or sags down a bit. Then the wind gets inside and you dont struggle with getting all the waistband inside the peg.

And everything has to face the right way and be done in the same order for me too.

I don't even own any pegs or any sort of washing line (everything is tumble dried). You all need to liberate yourselves from this work! [I know tumble drying is not great for the environment but I never fly anywhere so I think I am allowed to tumble everything!]

hereidrawtheline · 20/06/2009 18:00

I was a big tumble dryer fan but then it was shit and would take 2 or 3 cycles to get a load dry and it was on all the time. Then it caught fire and we had to call the fire department. It smoked out the house and was inbetween me and sleeping DS and totally panicked me. We didnt replace it, then we moved house & got a garden that already had 2 washing lines and now I am converted. It is my all time favourite household task. I am doing something useful so it isnt like lounging doing nothing but it is so relaxing and calm and rewarding. I love looking outside and seeing washing blowing around it reduces my stress.

not only do the pegs match but the shirts all go on one side, trousers on the other, undies on the other all in neat rows of socks, pants, knickers and by colour

snigger · 21/06/2009 18:16

littlebrownmouse - I am equally awestruck and disturbed by your Friday night/Saturday morning red, orange, brown and purple wash.

I have visions of your children weeping soulfully over green, blue, and cream garments, while you stand over them with autumn colours and a whip

My DS catergorises my pegs by how sore they are when he clips them on his finger. (he's 3 LOL

The light blue ones are the sorest apparently.
