Sorry to be so nosey but I will soon need to buy a couple of sofas but need some inspiration. I was hoping not to spend more than £1000 for two but wondered if this was feasible. If possible could you link to an image of the one you've got. Cheers!

old chesterfields both £100 from e-bay, look fab but a bit narrow to be really comfy when you slob out. What sort of house have you got? I live in an old cottage so they fit in - might not suit a new build.

pointydog · 22/11/2008 20:44

I bought two from ikea for abotu £700 (3 seaters), over six years ago. They still look pretty good

beanieb · 22/11/2008 20:45

Bog standard Ikea one - don't get it, it's npt deep enough for snuggles

shinyshoes · 22/11/2008 20:46

cream leathers

3 X 2 seaters

£200.00 each = £600.00

7 years ago, and still look good

Chirpygirl · 22/11/2008 20:49

www.nabru.com. 2m long sofa with low arms, DH can lie full length without using the arm rests. And it's a sofa bed, and it was £400

(came flatpacked though...at least it fit through the door)

bunjies · 23/11/2008 13:18

Thanks everyone. I've been looking at the Ektorp sofa in ikea as it's so cheap but wondered if it would stand up to the rigours of 3 children! We will be living in a barn conversion so nothing too modern IYSWIM. Leather chesterfields sound lovely but do they feel warm? We live in rural France where the winters can be harsh so need something that will make you feel all snuggly when you sit on it

I also looked at the nabru site but am thinking they might not fit in with the building. The thing is I would love to have an L-shaped sofa that would fit about 8 people but the only ones I've ever seen are ultra trendy ones. I don't mind flat pack as it would mean it would be easy to bring it over from the UK.

Any more suggestions?

might be bit common but just ordered lovely leather sofas from DFS - all half price .. all i want for christmas ......

Flightattendant4 · 23/11/2008 13:33

Have got three, all from ebay.

(am trying to sell one but can't decide which!)

First is an ancient Put-u-up with iron bed frame inside, vgc, was about £45 but had to pay for transport.
It's really solid and nice.

Second is a dark grey velvet 4 seater which came from a company called Furninova, they are scandinavian I think, very nice quality. It was about £700 new I think but I only paid 120 and it's as new - 10 months old.

Third is from Heals and is built like a tank, very very ncie quality, cost £3,500 originally, got it for £350 ish.
Also velvet but diff style.

Habitat are lovely, Heals too, good quality is important.

BlackEyedDog · 23/11/2008 13:50

you did well there Flightattendant

I also did the bargainous ebay thing; two fat leather sofas and armchair for £380

bunjies · 23/11/2008 18:33

Hmmm, looks like I might need to give ebay & browse . Seems there are some stupendous bargains to be had.

Salvation Army shop - A big comfortable red sofa (originally from Next) - £30.
All the covers are washable.

Jux · 23/11/2008 18:49

We have a comfy 3-seater with white (aaaaaaargh) loose covers. We got it at the local dump for £25. It's brilliant.

UnfortunatelyMe I've wanted a sofa that shape for sooooo looooooong. Please tell me it's really uncomfortable.

NorthernLurker · 23/11/2008 18:59

We bought a sofa and chair from furniture village last may. I think that was just over £1000 and is amzingly comfortable. Furniture village was about the only place we could find where it wasn't leather, leather, leather! this is ours

PictureThis · 23/11/2008 19:08

We have got a 2 seater and a 3 seater sofa, one in fabric, one in leather, both Abbey design from Marks and Spencer.

sparklestickchick · 23/11/2008 19:15

I have 2 very lovely green leather settees one a 2 seater 1 a 3 seater ......that we aquired last night from an advert in the local paper well under £400-they obviously werent new but they are fab and very comfy ....cold in the morning tho ....

GaspodTheWonderDog · 23/11/2008 19:17

Some friends of ours have just got a corner suite in brown leather. It's beautiful but SOOOOooo uncomfortable. Unless you had your feet up...which I'm sure would have been comfy (but I didn't because I still had my boots on) I could NOT sit on it to drink my cup of tea, I kept sliding down it, it was ridiculous!

tassisssss · 23/11/2008 19:18

We have a 3 seater, 2 seater and chair two years ago from Harveys for under £1500 I think. Got it two years ago, ordered in time for Christmas but it was late and they took a good percentage off the price. They have great sales.

Flightattendant4 · 23/11/2008 19:19

Am selling the Furninova one if anyone interested - is on ebay and best friend also might want it but if she doesn;t I will gladly sell it to a MNer!!!

Here you go

Jux Its the most comfiest thing in the world - Sorry. And it makes me smiles to see it...though I have been paying it off at ten pound a week for MONTHS now and have many many months to go..
I have the most terrifying idea they do drop it to half price in the sale...but I dont want to know if they do REALLY because that would be gutting.

mrsmaidamess · 23/11/2008 19:21

I have a Laura Ashley 3 seater in dark Blue and a M&S 2 seater in same colour, different fabrics.

I hate them now. But we've changed our house layout so much with building work we can't get them out of the font room, or new ones in.

So I'm destined to be carried out of my house in a box before they will!
