i wonder if mine sounds a bit laboured sometimes?

does anyone think theirs does?

chloemegjess · 27/10/2008 22:43

The £40 one would get stuck on a wire, but you would just need to untangle him, it wouldnt break it..

wohmum · 29/10/2008 22:19

OH no -

having read all of these messsage s and finally decided to order one - they are showing as 'unavailable' on Ebuyer!!!

have MNers mumsnetters bought up all the stock?

DesperateHousewifeToo · 01/11/2008 14:19

What make is the £40 robotic cleaner?

DesperateHousewifeToo · 03/11/2008 11:02

You see, you are all too busy out shopping with your newly found free-time so no-one has answered my question

girlandboy · 03/11/2008 11:44

I did read somewhere that the batteries on the cheaper version don't last as long as the Roomba. After a few months apparently, a full charge only lasts about 10 mins!

Can anyone confirm this before I buy one?!?!?

RedLollyYellowLolly · 03/11/2008 20:26

DHT - I think there is a link to the £40 model further down/up this thread. I'd look it up for you but I don't yet have my roomba so must go do some cleaning

DesperateHousewifeToo · 03/11/2008 21:13

Thanks rlyl. Link doesn't work as the item is sold out.

Don't think it mentioned the make when I first saw it.

Have found a couple of different ones and just wondered which cheapo's had been tried and tested, so to speak.

theyoungvisiter · 03/11/2008 21:14

I am soooooo tempted after reading all these glowing reviews...

BUT we have lots of carpets and lots of cat hair. Would it be any good? Most of the people who love theirs seem to have mainly hard floors - how does it cope with mainly carpet?

Also can you move the docking port easily? Am wondering what you do if you want to change floors.

NotanOtter · 03/11/2008 21:16

i dont bother moving the dock i just put Philip back downstairs when he is tired

he is very light and enjoys moving around the house freely

OP posts:
NotanOtter · 03/11/2008 21:17

he loves rugs!

OP posts:
theyoungvisiter · 03/11/2008 21:21

so if you run it upstairs when you are out he just gets tired and then you move him back to his dock when you get home?

Our flat is multi-split layered (very annoying - over 4 levels) so I'd have to do a different circuit every day if that makes sense.

NotanOtter · 03/11/2008 22:31

i need two - or three

OP posts:
chloemegjess · 03/11/2008 22:51

There are lots of cheap ones on ebay, some £40 ish ones even have docking stations on there.

After seeing mine, 2 of my sisters now want one for Christmas! And we are getting a second for upstairs.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 04/11/2008 12:35

Chloemegjess - is yours a cheapy? What make?

Buying 2 cheap ones really appeals, I have to say!

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 13:43

Yes mine is the cheaper one that was linked to earlier in the thread, I think it is now sold out.

I am unsure what is the actual brand, all it says on it is "auto vacuum". I know there are some of these on ebay, and also some the same but with a docking station.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 04/11/2008 14:07

Is this your one?

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 04/11/2008 14:09

Phylis did the floors in the LR and DR while I played tennis today . Best £40 I've spent in ages.

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 17:33

no sorry thats not the one I have.

I finally put him on while 4 year old mindee was here. I hadn't shown her it before in case I ended up regretting it (ie she wanted him on all the time or something). She thought he was very funny. She will no doubt go home to tell her parents who will probably think I am bonkers!!

I would much rather have 2 cheap ones than 1 more expensive ones. I might go for one from ebay with a docking station this time though, so I can set him off downstairs when I go to bed and he will still be charged in the morning.

My mum saw it and said it would waste loads of electric charging it? I can't imagin it using loads but then again I don't know much about that stuff (although nor does she).

ChippyMinton · 04/11/2008 17:38

Does anyone know if you can have a roomba doing its thing whilst a burglar alarm is set? I'd love one but can't justify it unless it works while I'm at work myself.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 04/11/2008 17:48

Now that's another dilema...

Go for an untested but cheap one or an expensive, recommended model.

JodieO · 04/11/2008 18:04

I've wanted one for a while but I'm still debating.

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 19:03

The one I have is defo on ebay. I will try and find it for you. And I can recommend it.

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 19:34

ok sorry I can't find it on ebay now . They had it a week ago! And it was the same one, but with a docking bay!

Looking on ebuyer from the link though, it says it has been discontinued rather than sold out so maybe they have completely stopped making them?
