SeaShells - by childproof, what do you mean?

DD(2) loves Roomba, runs around giggling while he 'chases' her, reads him bedtime stories and occasionally tries to send him back to bed if he is being 'naughty' - she knows how to wake him up, but also knows that he is loud enough to give her away if she wakes him up without permission. Does that meet the requirement?

I seem to remember Cali's DS's may have tried Roomba-surfing (riding him)?

NotAnOtter · 12/10/2008 22:06

mine is non scheduler

maybe i was over-zealous in my expectations of him

gave him a male name so should have known he would need to rest between jobs!

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 12/10/2008 22:10

maybe he just needs to settle in
don't you live in a ginormous house? maybe he's just a bit overawed

I really want one but they cost gazillions over here and my children would deffo ride him. they break everything

BroccoliSpearedThroughTheHead · 12/10/2008 22:10

So does it just potter round doing the hoovering by itself then?

NotAnOtter · 12/10/2008 22:52

mrsjc

ds4 has had his skinny little fingers on the roomba today...egged on from a few steps up by an evil ds3!!!!

I do love it

I have always had this thing about the washing machine being on - gives me the feeling i am cleaning when i am actually not! Same with roomba!

Yes she would surf him. She would also try using him as a trampoline. Thanks to dd1 we discovered that expensive laptops make not good stages not perform tap dancing on . Luckily the laptop was insured.

She would probably try feeding him things too. Like cornflakes or rice crispies. Maybe not such a good idea that I get one then?

chloemegjess · 13/10/2008 11:07

Hi, these sound good. How much are we talking to get one? I have rugs in my house, on top of the carpet (to protect the carpet as we rent and have 3 cats and a mesy DD, mindees and soon another baby!) Would it be able to go up/round the rugs?

GrabShellDude · 13/10/2008 11:14

Chloe, if your rugs have fringes they can get a bit caught up in the brushes. Otherwise he just clambers up and over (not too high obviously!). I paid £249 for a 560 model earlier this year.

Brocolli - he is really an automated sweeper. Will never take the place of a deep thorough vacuuming but on a day to day basis of keeping dust and dog hairs down he is brill.

BUT - my upstairs Roomba has just conked out.

chloemegjess · 13/10/2008 11:26

Did you have one upstairs and one down then? I am thinking about getting one for xmas/birthday but worried I wouldn't use it enough. I have 3 cats so would be good to clear up after them. Would it pick up bits of food that DD throws on the floor? Would it go round junk if I had not tidied up?

How do you stop it falling down the stairs?

wannaBe · 13/10/2008 11:32

what is a robomop?

GrabShellDude · 13/10/2008 11:32

Yes I confess I have two Roombas.

It will pick up little bits of "stuff", dust, hair, etc. It has sensors on it to stop it falling downstairs.

As I said, it won't take the place of proper vacuuming completely but it will help on day to day basis.

Flightofthenortybats · 13/10/2008 11:36

I'm just wondering if it is like the sort of cleaner you employ and then you end up clearing up before she comes.

Because ours would be full to the brim with bits of bionicle if we let it near the actual floor...

chloemegjess · 13/10/2008 12:21

Are there cheaper ones around? Couldn't really justify spending £200 or so at the mo but if I could find a cheap version, I could get it for xmas.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 13/10/2008 12:29

Robomop - but only for hard floors, I think. As the name suggests - just dusts them, no vacuuming.

stealthsquiggle · 13/10/2008 13:54

FlightoftheNB's - that is part of the joy of a Roomba - our DC know that if they leave stuff on the floor Roomba will eat it - so we play 'pick everything up before we wake Roomba up' - and if when DS is too slow I start Roomba anyway and he soon speeds up [evil mother cackle]

roomba is my LOVE

he is much much hearted and such a good little worker

hr stumbled over a 3d jigsaw in ds4's bedroom today but has been at work constantly from dawn till - well he still is

he feasts on grit and grime- collects playmobil willy nilly- trumpet and dagger today!

his only failing is the edge of rugs- he leaves them looking a little dishevelled - any one experienced this?

OP posts:
Flossish · 14/10/2008 21:24

debates the benefits of leaving Roomba page open for gadget freak DP to see. No more hoovering, well very little anyway. less rows. but £200 on a hoover? (mini thud)

I'd rather an engagement ring TBH!

Or would I?

Perhaps I'd be more likely to get one with a roomba to tidy up behind me...

NotAnOtter · 14/10/2008 21:34

i am really obsessional about tidy house and very impressed with the difference Phillip Roomba makes

I managed some decorating today whilst he was cleaning for me - a JOY
