Is anyone still hanging the washing outside?

I've just hung a load on the line but I'm not sure there's much point. I really miss the line-dried smell if I hang it indoors though, plus I hate having damp washing draped everywhere.

When do you stop hanging outside?

Another old wives tale, but it works= if the path is drying, so will you washing

Othersideofthechannel · 09/10/2008 13:13

Yes - it's very windy where we live

bettythebuilder · 09/10/2008 13:22

Yes, mine is out today- I have an automatic vent in the greenhouse that opens if the air in there gets warm, and even that is open a little bit today- it's positively tropical out there

thisisyesterday · 09/10/2008 13:22

yep, I have a full line of nappies out today

Bridie3 · 09/10/2008 13:30

Like it, jumpingbeans.

Jojay · 09/10/2008 13:32

Yep - I got a load dry yesterday and another one is well on the way today

ohdearwhatamess · 09/10/2008 13:33

Yes for lightweight things like dh's shirts, sheets, tea towels. Other stuff it is very windy.

Boyswillbeboys · 09/10/2008 13:34

Have no dryer so not many options! It will go out every day unless it is raining - I hate drying clothes inside.

i like the idea, but in reality, nah, too much agg

nooOOOoonki · 09/10/2008 13:45

just got in from doing it now up in Manchester!

RhinestoneCowghoul · 09/10/2008 13:48

Always put washing out unless actively raining - we don't have a dryer and hate having washing draped about the house all the time. Nappies need a bit of sun on them too...

Got loads dry yesterday, and some on the line today.

shinyshoes · 09/10/2008 14:03

Me I have just put out my second lot of washing.

claireyBOOOO · 09/10/2008 14:09

I hang outside all year. Obviously if it is pissing down I don't but otherwise it goes out for as long as possible then gets finished off on the airer. Did 3 loads yesterday, 2 of them dried completely and the third dried on the airer overnight-if I hadn't hung it out it would have taken a couple of days to dry. Have 2 loads out today and both are almost dry.

I find even if it is out on the line for only an hour in cold weather it dries quicker than if it was just on the airer.

southeastastra · 09/10/2008 14:09

oh yes have done four loads old granny that i am

wotulookinat · 09/10/2008 14:10

Mine dried pretty well outside yesterday so I have put more out today.

girlandboy · 09/10/2008 14:12

Beware hanging washing out! See my thread here

cupsoftea · 09/10/2008 14:12

yup - fine today but needs drying in the drier for a while.

MyDingaling · 09/10/2008 14:16

Already dried one load this morning and second load drying nicely

Habbibu · 09/10/2008 14:19

All year round, when possible. Even if they have to finish drying indoors, the airer makes a huge difference.

wotulookinat · 09/10/2008 14:38

Hanging it out makes it smell so nice! Even if you are risking a hronet in the drier!

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 09/10/2008 15:03

Oh yes, outside whizzing around two dark lol and one bedding.

I'm thinking of getting one of these I realise I might get some looks from neighbours but they all dry lol outside as well so might get some looks too

lizziemun · 09/10/2008 16:28

Jelly

one of my neighbours has one of them.

nannyL · 09/10/2008 19:00

yes

I hang my washing out sideon the line all year

in the 2.5 years that i have lived in this house i have only EVER dried 5 loads of washing inside...

BUT i have a super high washing line that catches the breeze and the sunshine and dries clothes really really well

in the winter they often need just 1 night in the airing cupboard and then they are bone dry, rather than nearly dry

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 10/10/2008 11:03

lizziemun ~ I'd be interested to know if your neighbour finds it any good? Where I am its quite high up so have concerns of it taking off and also I'm wondering how much of a faff it is to peg out with it on.
