I REALLY need some motivation!

First off, I have Christmas decorations etc sitting on my bedroom floor, which need putting away, preferably this side of Christmas.

FAQ · 04/09/2008 13:02

ok we've all had lunch and I@ve had a shower - just need to get dressed again now

Then I'll have time to hang some of the washing up around the house and put another load in before I go out to toddlers at 2

laurasmiles · 04/09/2008 13:13

Wow what a thread! I am currently living in an absolute tip: partly due to major building works and partly due to total lack of motivation.
I don't think I've really got to grips with what it means to be a stay at home mum and the cleaning comes so far down the list....it's appalling really. I find it so hard to get motivated after the children go down to bed, all I want to do is flop - and generally do! Not good is it?
You all make me feel extremely guilty which might just be the kick up the behind that I need. I won't write a list of jobs that need doing just now as I would run out of space on my post!!
Off to make a small but definite start..... any other self confessed disorganised/lazyites feel free to post and let me know I'm not alone!

IgglepigglesBlanket · 04/09/2008 13:48

It's ok Laurasmiles, it gets to a point where there's so much to do that it's overwhelming, doesn't it?
I'm in the middle of completely gutting my flat- I just couldn't take it anymore. It's so liberating to have got to a stage where the flat is just a bit chaotic, instead of being a refuse tip. I'm actually quite motivated now because I can see the improvement- hooray!

FAQ · 04/09/2008 13:50

I'm now dressd and have dried and straightened by hair - off to toddlers in a few minutes - have a rest and come back to it around 4pm

Kelix · 04/09/2008 14:09

Great thread
Lots to do here to, lets see:

Washing in
Drying out &
fold
Hoovering
Tidy DD's room
Prepare tea
Keep DD (7.5 months) entertained throughout

Thats good for a start, I think if I manage all these say before 6pm I will treat myself to an alcohlic refreshment later in the evening

If thats not enough motivation I dont know what is

GypsyMoth · 04/09/2008 14:25

i'm going to be really daring and pull out some furniture to hoover behind it..........anyone else? shall we all just pull out one piece and do it? dare you.......

Janni · 04/09/2008 14:57

Sorry, Brie5, between my children fighting over blu-tac and me having to get rid of nits in my own hair (damn those kids!), I've so far only done one thing on my 3 item list

Will now do the other two.

just got back from toddlers and picking DS1 up from school - about to give DS3 milk and then I suppose I should get on

Janni · 04/09/2008 15:38

So, Brie, what horrors did you find?
FAQ - you're doing well

OK, the next three things I am going to fit in around childcare etc are:

  1. put laundry away and hang fresh load
  2. Make space for DS1's new school books 3 Prep. dinner

Kelix - will definitely be joining you in the acoholic beverage this evening.

FAQ · 04/09/2008 15:40

before dinner (which we have around 6ish) I intend to

Get some more of the clothes dried
Put the clothes I ironed on Tuesday away
Put the shopping that came on monday away
Empty the dishwasher
and hopefully tidy the kitchen up to a state where I can mop it tonight

FAQ · 04/09/2008 16:58

OK the clothes are slowly drying
I've put all the clothes away (including those that I ironed about 2 weeks ago and have been sat on my sofa bed ever since
All the shopping is put away
The dishwasher is emptied
Just having a quick break before I tidy up some more in the kitchen

Janni · 04/09/2008 18:13

Lord how I wish there were a team of UN peace keepers I could call in at short notice to help me get through dinner time with the kids. No long till the youngest goes to bed, I hope.

GypsyMoth · 04/09/2008 19:21

pulled out the computer desk!! and found:fluff...phone to comp lead which was lost weeks ago....5 pieces of dusty computer paper....a pen....2 pen lids....and an argos catalogue!!!!!

might tackle a bed or two tomorrow! very satisfying hoovering up all that dust, cleaning comp and printer, and i even changed the bulb on desk lamp which blew months ago!! feel very good about it.....no kids and sticky fingers allowed on comp now though.i even hoovered keyboard with attachment and got out crumbs and dead black flies!

Janni · 04/09/2008 19:27

Sorry KM, the thread has moved on a lot since I first posted. The Xmas decorations had not been sitting there since last Christmas, I'm not that hopeless. I'd been trying to sort out some cupboards and not got round to putting them back. I am the world's worst procrastinator, but posting it on MN actually helps me. Sad but true.

I've now fed the boys, and got some more of the clothes drying, put most of the dishes in the dishwasher, DS1 and 2's brand new school uniform is now hanging in their wardrobes (as opposed to the bags they came home in on the kitchen floor) and I'm about to put DS2 and 3 to bed

giraffescantdancethetango · 04/09/2008 20:19

fab thread

FAQ · 04/09/2008 21:58

given up for the day - will continue tomorrow

AlwaysTheMummy · 05/09/2008 08:48

It's throwing it down with rain today, I don't need to go outside for anything other than to pick up my ds from school, so will commit to doing all the little jobs that I cannot stand.

Will update in a few hours xx

FAQ · 05/09/2008 08:58

ok - new day new start??

Today I need to

Do some more washing and get it dried
Iron
Tidy the Kitchen
Tidy and hoover the lounge/diner
Tidy and clean the bathroom

FrockHorror · 05/09/2008 09:36

I think I might need to join in too because Flylady doesn't seem to be working in this house either .

I've not got too much to do by way of tidying, its the cleaning that has been a bit neglected over the hols as I've been busy entertaining the DCs.

DD is going back to school on Tuesday so normal service shall resume! But for the moment, the few jobs I have given myself for today are:

Make beds (this always gets neglected )
Washing up
3 loads of washing, including all DD's new uniform which got covered in builders dust when they decided to drill through the walk in wardrobe without warning, covering everything in dust
Tidy round in kitchen
Tidy round in front room
Clean bathroom
Hoover and Dust all through.

So far this morning I have done half of the washing up (plates, cutlery, cups) and the second lot is now in soak (saucepans, steamer parts)
Put DD's uniform in the wash and sorted out the rest of the washing into piles
Fed DS his mid morning bottle and faffed around with breakfast.

I'm going to the doctors in a bit and need to go into town to buy a dress for my first post baby night out tonight. I am also going to treat myself to a new pair of shoes . The other little jobs can wait until I come home but I will also have to fit in afternoon sleep time to enable me to stay awake tonight, as DS still wakes 2-3 times in the night atm.

You all seem to be doing really well. Will check back in later with dress/shoes news and to motivate myself to do the last remaining jobs for today!

ByTheSea · 05/09/2008 09:38

Today, I am going to do a summer's worth of paperwork, filing, phone calls, etc. Give me strength -- I hate this!

FAQ · 05/09/2008 09:38

God I must get on - so far all I've done is made one phone call

Janni · 05/09/2008 10:54

Hi all
I'm working my way through my to do list fairly well today and the flat is clean and tidy. If the kids were too my life would be perfect

I'll pop back later if I need a kick up the backside. Good luck all and I hope the rain isn't too depressing.
