Lakeland Autumn catalogue.... mmmmmm why do I want one of those Remoskas???

Just read the whole of this and wondered - how many mumsnetters have a Remoska? I yearn for one and don't know quite why.

Also I'd love to know what kitchen gadgets mns have and couldn't do without.
I want a rice steamer
A magimix
A slow cooker
A bread maker
An ice cream maker

But I always resist in case it just ends up cluttering the kitchen like the enormous juicer we were given as a wedding prez!

I want one too but am too embarrassed to actually admit to it. I've been reading Moneysavingexpert.com and they are raving about them on the Old Style Forum, saying how much electricity they save. I might just give in and get one as I dread to think how much it costs to stick the big fan oven on.

We have a Panasonic breadmaker which is used daily, have just had dinner made in the slow cooker, and have the ice cream maker attachment for the Kenwood, which does get used in the summer.

The juicer is in the garage and will be freecycled shortly !

what is a remouska?

That thing that stands in your pans mixing looked like the perfect thing that-looks-really-useful-but-you'll-never-use. I love the lakeland catalogue

I'm considering getting a remouska because our electric oven is absolutely ancient, it heats up the whole kitchen! Plus it will be many many years before before we can redo the kitchen and replace it easily (it's built in and I'd like freestanding)

It's the testimonials that are so persuasive... But the counter space..... How can it blardy do sponge cakes?!?

Chocolatetpot - high praise from that website is quite impressive. How big is your slow cooker? We're a family of three (and am xpecting in Sept) and I'm tempted by the thought of having some meals made and forgotten about all day. My dh has a phobia of stewing meats (very frugal mother as was mine) do you do loads of stews or is it more soups?

I think if I had an icecream maker I would explode in days! Have to be careful not to buy it all the time because I just can't stop eating it once it's there!

cargirl, I agree, ovens are not energy efficient really are they? Unless you do loads of stuff at once and in the summer it's such a drag to be so HOT!

I was also thinking that when I go back to work I keen leave it set on timer so stuff is cooked when I get back, not sure if he needs to preheat in the same way as my normal oven IYSWIM

I'm hoping my friend caves and buys one first!

I've got one but tbh I've only really used it when the kitchen has been out of action. I keep it in a cupboard not on the worktop. I have been thinking that I should use it more to save electricity but it is slower than a normal oven so I would need to be slightly more organised...

My auntie has got one, she is a widow on her own and she raves about it, saves her such a lot in electricity.
She and my dad try all sorts of recipies and meals and have a whale of a time...they are in their 80's BTW.

Oh Remoska news! Thanks! I feel like I should get one for my mother to reduce her fuel bills, but she is a real maestro with her microwave and steams things in it. She also uses a slow cooker a lot.

Girl, what do you cook with yr Remoska? what can it do that a slow cooker can't?

OMG - I had a remoska when I first lived in Prague in a bedsit. It fulfilled its function and I thought it was kind of nifty, but I'm stunned that they've become desirable! I didn't use it all that much in fact because I was always worried about burning myself on the lid.

Thanks vesela, I suspect my desire for one is based entirely on the evangelical way the lakeland catalogue markets them! But obviously if one had a caravan one would buy a remoska at once!

ive never heard of a remouska, but it does look like something id be suckered into buying.

we have (and never use) a rice steamer, bread maker and ice cream maker. we do use the magimix. ooh, at least once a month.

I am truly ashamed of the pleasure I feel when a new catalogue slams down on the mat. And the way I find myself just WANTING stuff in it! Not that I order much though. But I do want one of these am I very wrong? I should not want one should I???

Twogs, I imagine that if we had a bread maker I would just stuff my face with the stuff like a nutter, also if we had an icecream maker.
But I do fancy a magimix.... what do you use yours for most? I love doing massive soups and all that chopping is a bit of a drag. But then getting out a magimix and washing and putting it away does look like a drag too.....

Even sadder, I am looking forward to visiting the re-vamped Windermere store, some time! I need to dream up a few things I need so I have an excuse to go.

Oh word I went to the MotherShip (which is what my friend and I call it) in the Lakes with our dc a couple of years ago. It was very exciting! We only had about an hour but I could have stayed a day......

Is it a sign of terrible aging do you think to yearn for those Lakeland solutions.............
