Lakeland Autumn catalogue.... mmmmmm why do I want one of those Remoskas???

Just read the whole of this and wondered - how many mumsnetters have a Remoska? I yearn for one and don't know quite why.

Also I'd love to know what kitchen gadgets mns have and couldn't do without.
I want a rice steamer
A magimix
A slow cooker
A bread maker
An ice cream maker

But I always resist in case it just ends up cluttering the kitchen like the enormous juicer we were given as a wedding prez!

I wanted one for a while, but decided that it was a) quite dear and b) likely to bug me whilst carrying, due to it being lopsided.

Instead, I got a normal rectangular shaped basket, beautiful and cheap as chips which sits at the bottom of the stairs. Only me ever thinks to empty it tho.

HTH

ipanemagirl · 08/08/2008 22:59

Thnx word I try to resist impulse buys, and it does look like a safety hazard!
Do you remember the chocolate fountains?? Someone must have bought those!
I didn't want one but I thought they looked fabulously awful.

well, dp used the magimix to make salsa dip earlier for tomorrow so our w/end guests will have somthing to nibble on when they get here (he has all the social graces in this family, not me. i was dragged up, i was )

and i use the kitchenaid mixer thing to make bread mix (out of packets, just add water) and then rise it next to, and bake it in, the aga. now and then.

im well spoilt arent i? still, its because im worth it.
[bleurgh]

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 23:02

i have long pondered the stair basket too.
but i reckon my kids would just empty it all over the hall every 5 minutes which would be no good.
also, im a slatternly sod and id just fill it once, then trip over the bloody thing forevermore.

ipanemagirl · 08/08/2008 23:03

LOL TWogs!!!! Very good spousal training!!!!

Yup, I've got a chocolate fountain buried stored somewhere. It was a present I didn't really want.

I'm not a fan of melted choc and fruit (hmm, maybe that's the reason I gave away my choc fondue set?) and tbh, it's more hassle than it's worth. It's flipping messy to use, and a PITA to clean.

Word · 08/08/2008 23:08

But I must've acted my "delight" too well cos a year later I got a friggin' cocktail fountain. You should see the room they're taking up, too.

These, from people who can't bear anyone making a mess in their house.

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 23:11

spousal training? that'd be what he works on me. HE is domesticated and mannered and polite and gracious. I am a total go-with-the-flow hippy dreamer headintheclouds awaywiththefairies wouldliveinadumpifitwereuptometoclean slut.
quite frankly.
but you get far on a nice smile ime.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 08/08/2008 23:11

spooky, I have yearnings for the remoska and the willow stair basket - also the lovely train cake pan even though I have 2 very girly dd's and they'd never allow a train cake in our household . I often say that I'd like a lock-in at Lakeland so I could have a proper play with everything, the dd's get bored so quickly. oh, whilst I remember my dh got me this life changing lemon zester for my birthday. I make a lovely lemon cake and it is awesome.

ipanemagirl · 08/08/2008 23:12

Word!

Was the cocktail fountain anything like this?!!!

OP posts:
twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 23:13

omg that train cake tin thingy is COOL.
not that i can bake a cake to save my life, but i reckon i could talk someone into doing it for me if i needed to...

ipanemagirl · 08/08/2008 23:15

that train cake tin is a proper solution innit??

OP posts:
Word · 08/08/2008 23:15

Yes, that very one, I think!

Mmm.. I can have pink cocktails dribbled all over my carpets. Nice.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 08/08/2008 23:16

I saw one of those cocktail fountain things in asda at xmas, looked nasty and impossible to clean. I reckon it would be good for students who could do all of the usual adding dreg-ends of bottles to make a scary 'cocktail'. I have vivid memories of making something involving cider, vodka and red wine.

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 23:17

omg that punch bowl is SHIT
dont blame you for being unimpressed with that one.
whatthe...??

Word · 08/08/2008 23:17

Actually, in case I'm sounding very ungrateful, what really annoyed me, was that I'd been told, "You had a lucky escape - we nearly gave you a cocktail fountain for Christmas, but we've decided to give it sby else instead".

I distinctly remember saying, "Phew" and showing signs of being relieved - so WHY OH WHY did they go and get me one, after that?

PortAndLemon · 08/08/2008 23:18

I have thought of getting one to save on energy costs [still thinking about it emoticon]

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 23:19

omg belly, if we'd a had that as students (not that i was one but i hung out with them and they all failed anyway so no diff really) we'd have had it loaded to capacity with mind alteringly potent mixtures of one kind or anythingwecouldlayourhandsonother. mmmmmmmm...meeeeemorieeees...

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 23:21

word - i dont think they like you.
that or theyre waiting to see when you'll pop. like a dare.
just wait, now youve said nothing to that, next yr you'll get a flatulant robot to help you hoover the bottom step only. or something. theyre testing you dammit.
im sure your lack of response is frustrating them mightily

Word · 08/08/2008 23:23

arf

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 23:49

i have brothers. does it show?

ipanemagirl · 09/08/2008 08:29

Word, I can't imagine what you did with your face when you opened THAT!!
TwoGsinbugg, if we'd had that as students we'd have made cocktails with Thunderbird which is what we used to drink!

Class!!

I had never heard of a remouska until this moment! I've long hankered after a George Foreman grill, though. I love those 8 minute long 'infomercials' where they show you all the lovely things you could make if only you had one.

Shoshe · 09/08/2008 08:47

I have one [preen] actually I have had one since 1997 [extra preen]

I used to use it A LOT, when I worked out of home.

Now it just seems to sit in the cupboard

Should get it out and use it more.

ipanemagirl · 09/08/2008 11:04

shoshe, (bows with respect) what did you use it for most? What might you use if for now?

mrsmattie we have a GForeman grill and use it whenever we have sausages (it really does shed the fat) and it's really good for toasties too, easy to clean and all. I haven't used it for bacon but that would make sense too. All things I'm trying to cut out of our diet as much as possible!!!
