** question for those of you who don't iron **

You may remember a discussion we had a while ago about ironing.

Well i'm now totally converted to not ironing, i tumble dry as much as i can and hand it up stright away.

Anyway my question is can you get away with tumble drying DP smart, work trousers, don't want to shrink them???

Re trousers - put them on the washing line and if they're still creased, tell DH where the iron is kept

Depends on fabric
DH's cheaper Tesco/Asda ones go in the tumbler no problem.

Depends on the fabric I think. Dh's suit trousers are some sort of machine washable wool blend - I hang them up on a hanger to dry and seem fine (don't know if he irons them - he does his own ironing!)

oooh tumble drying?!?!!? you are very bold. tumbling drying very bad for the environment. And tumble drying especially wicked in JULY!!!

I do not iron ever and I never use the tumble drier either.

hang clothes to dry on a hanger and if the need a bit more than just drying on the hanger, hang the hanger off a radiator.

Do not use the tumble drier. I am OUTRAGED

I don't iron and I don't tumble dry. Provided you are careful about how you hang things up to dry, the vast majority are fine.

Anyone know if tumble-drying for 10 minutes uses more or less electricity than doing a load of ironing?

It certainly takes less time....

(I never tumble dry from wet but my drier has an easy-care cycle of 10 minutes which saves ironing if you fold straight away...)

i iron the girls' stuff and that's it.

i don't tumble dry unless emergency and/or i put jeans and towels in for about 15 minutes before pegging them out so they don't go all crunchy.

I'm sure it would take more than 20-30 minutes to iron a full load.... so I'm saving electricity as well as time!

sometimes you have to tumble dry, the weather is rubbish here today. I have 4 kids that need clean clothes and haven't done much all weekend because i've been in bed with the mother of all migraines. so sometimes i have no choice

My DH is firmly of the opinion that men don't notice. That's what he says to me when he goes out wearing a disgracefully creased shirt anyway. I have learnt to stop worrying. They are his clothes.

but i don't understand, surely somethings still looked creased?

not ironing scares me altho, a friend of mine has converted me to not ironing 'some' of my jeans.

pirate i was exactly the same. there are one or two things that i still have to iron but 99% of it I don't.

Don't use the really fast spin on your washer, and always remove and hang things the second the washer/dryer has finished it really does work. Even the kids uniforms don't get ironed now and they were the one thing i was really paranoid about looking perfect.

another one who doesn't iron much or tumble dry

I either hang outside or on those dryer stand things.

I do iron a few select things for ds 5 or myself,dd and dh do their own which is minimal.

I only tumble towels so they are nice and fluffy and I iron everything else - even bed sheets - think not ironing is a bit manky!!!

my other trick is to peg clothes on the airer in poor weather. just as you would on hte line.

it takes more time, but you won't have to iron much.

and i also use a product called 'hangaway' from lakeland - it's FAB and saves on ironing.

God I NEVER iron bedding, and i have been wearing yesterdays knickers for much of the day** so I am very manky!!!

I tumble Dh's work trousers and never iron.

DH's work trousers are that vile polyesther that dries in about 10 minutes without a crease.

His tops are just polo knit but they don't need ironed if pegged properly.

we buy M&S non iron trousers and just hang them up, folded along the creases, straigt from the washing machine
