I’m just curious so asking the question- would you pay a fee for this? Not a monthly subscription just a one-off payment/ a few payments to somebody who could work with you to help you restore your home so it is organised and easy to keep clean and clutter free? The person would be non-judgmental but help you systemise your home so it would be easier to keep on top of etc. thanks everyone 😊

It depends how bad it was but prob not

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · Yesterday 15:08

I know someone who has recently paid 1k for such a service..
Nowt you couldn't do yourself if you put your mind to it...
And they broke an expensive item and didn't let on..

oppsididitagainandagain · Yesterday 15:08

Yes I would absolutely 💯

RogueFemale · Yesterday 15:15

Definitely would if I had the money to spare, if I were overwhelmed with years of clutter and couldn't manage it by myself.

I'm thinking of a particular elderly neighbour, whose house is jam packed, and she wants to move house and downsize, but the sheer amount of stuff is too much for her to cope with, and so it never happens (neither the decluttering nor the move).

QueenOfAccountability · Yesterday 15:20

yeah i'd love something like that i absolutely would pay good money for it too

RaraRachael · Yesterday 15:20

No. My house is never that much of a mess but I'd just take one room at a time and be ruthless.

DewDropsAndCobWebs · Yesterday 15:24

Not for myself but someone I know has used a service like this.
They were in over their head with trying to organize too much stuff on a small place after a move.
The organizer went through a plan of what they wanted it to look like in the end, how it would work, and then reduced items in line with the plan, then set up a system so it was maintainable.
No idea what she paid, but it seemed to help a lot.

Freshrain · Yesterday 15:36

Yes, absolutely.
It would focus my mind and make me do it.

However, I looked into it once, sort of expecting the fee to be similar to a cleaner.
The people I found (and this is going back a couple of years) wanted £45ph, and made it very clear they weren't going to actually take any of the stuff away that I was prepared to let go of.

I would definitely pay someone who was able to sell stuff on for me - be that auction houses, or car boots, Vinted or market place.

I have quite a lot of stuff that I no longer need, but don't have the skills or the energy to sell it, and the 'green' in me can't bear throwing away perfectly useable stuff. It's not that I need the money particularly, I'd be as pleased if they were the person who knew of organisations that could use things I no longer want - Nurseries, craft groups, 'props' people from local theatre, small museums, schools, charities supporting people just starting out in an empty flat or house, etc.

I'd use money to employ someone to help me declutter, over using that same money for things like having my nails done, 100%

Autumngirl5 · Yesterday 15:37

I would definitely if I felt out of my depth or if I was too busy myself. I think it is easier for a third party to help as they are not so emotionally involved in your clutter.
A friend had a professional to help her unpack after a house move. She was a great help.

researchers3 · Yesterday 15:41

Yes if I needed it and had the spare cash.

Also, if as PPs have said, dealt with unwanted stuff/sold items on Vinted etc.

Xiaoxiong · Yesterday 15:46

I have, and it was mainly because she did take all the stuff away to good homes. I had been able to declutter ok on my own (slowly) but really struggled finding homes for everything so it ended up sitting by the door or in the boot of my car. She knew all the places that needed things eg, she had contacts with local playgroups and after school clubs for toys/lego/crafty stuff, with women’s shelters for toiletries and bedding, etc.

She ended up coming for the whole day and was a whirlwind of energy - got so much decluttered and out the door. Worth her weight in gold!!

sirana · Yesterday 15:58

Yes (dependent on cost) but Im cash rich and time poor and find disorganised spaces very stressful.

Lndnmummy · Yesterday 16:01

I have done this twice in the past and absolutely would do it again.

That sounds excellent @Xiaoxiong. Was this in the UK? What kind of price did you pay for the day, and did you stumble across her randomly or was she a personal recommendation?

GolfingGoddess · Yesterday 16:10

i use a wonderful decluttering person every now and again when I’ve got a lot to sort out. Last time was when my oldest had a growth spurt and very few of his clothes fitted. I told her what size he was now in and she organised all the wardrobes, packing away what would work for his sister, and then of the rest I had a reselling pile (for me, very small) and she took bags away for charity shops and rag bags. And she also made me a shopping list for the gaps it left in school uniform. It’s nothing I can’t do myself but I’m time poor and having her come for a day once or twice a year and getting something completely organised takes things of my endless to-do list and leaves the house looking amazing and organised.

BertieBotts · Yesterday 16:10

People do pay for this. If you're doing research to find out if it's a viable business model - apparently so. Search for professional organisers in your area and see how much they charge.

HaventYouAlwaysWantedAMonkey · Yesterday 16:10

I can do the deciding what I want to get rid of but the rate limiting step is actually getting it out of the door. If someone did the charity shop run or sold the stuff on Vinted for me then that would be brilliant.

Wistfultearia · Yesterday 16:12

A lot of these companies exist and seem well used. My friend found one helpful but it was hugely expensive.

I agree, that would be the hardest part.

I would LOVE to find someone like this.
Would definitely pay for such a service.

Heyitsagooddaytoday · Yesterday 16:48

I would definitely do this now! I am getting my house ready to put on the market in a few months but I am overwhelmed with stuff as I am in a small house so it would be really helpful.

midnights92 · Yesterday 16:57

Would love to hear some recommendations from the people on this thread who have used someone and got the benefit. I'd pay good money for someone who could really declutter and sort things, but not really willing to spend the kind of money being charged without knowing they won't just come in and faff about with storage boxes.
