I’m just curious so asking the question- would you pay a fee for this? Not a monthly subscription just a one-off payment/ a few payments to somebody who could work with you to help you restore your home so it is organised and easy to keep clean and clutter free? The person would be non-judgmental but help you systemise your home so it would be easier to keep on top of etc. thanks everyone 😊

Yes. My DH has been disorganised and untidy all his life. He's now sadly physically incapable of bending down and mentally slow because of the painkillers he's on. The mess is getting him down now, and having someone else with patience go through things and sort him out, persuading him (I can't) that strips of newspaper and old cards aren't things to hold on to, and that he'll never wear a size 16 collar again .... oh, and go through his paperwork so it's actually filed.

Most of the stuff I got rid of ended up being donated to various charities or being recycled, but the fact that she dealt with it was such a godsend

I think this is crucial, which is why I was quite surprised at the woman I contacted. I think it they haven't grasped that, they don't really understand the job.

Oh I can see where having someone to the physical shifting could help someone who's loosing their physical fitness.
Who can do the "do you really want this!"

It's really common to have issues managing 'stuff' with any kind of executive dysfunction. So it can affect people with ADHD but also older people especially if they have any cognitive decline. That's before you even get near the sentimental stuff or the people who are excessively frugal.

It drives me insane that our society encourages people to buy lots of shit and then simultaneously is incredibly restrictive about getting rid of waste. I don't buy very much I just find it really hard to get rid of stuff - a mix of make do and mend, decision fatigue and lots of barriers to actually getting stuff out of the house! So, I would gladly pay for help with this - and do!

I think systems are quite individual and not many people would want a focus on this. I agree with PP that most people would want help with ethical disposal of stuff, charity shops , freecycle, tool recycling for low income countries, Pens 4kids, craft supplies for local schools, knowing where local jumble sales are, links to waste clearance etc
I guess there are hard core hoarders with serious dysfunction related to this, and less affected people who have maybe inherited stuff or have just been busy raising kids and working , who would probably be easier to help and perhaps would be more likely to be able to pay for it. I think selling stuff on vinted for people sounds like a can of worms but maybe people do it. I think people thinking things had the value they had 30 years ago is part of the problem so helping them have a realistic idea of value might be a useful service.

I’d love to but there are many things higher on the priority list.

No but I can name 2 friends who would really benefit from that service.

I'd love to declutter people's homes.
