Welcome to the latest in the long running Fledgling Flylady threads, for those new to the system, Flylady is a US based website / app system based on a monthly rotation around the rooms of the house. It’s well established, these threads have been going for many many years, but all are welcome, we love having new Fledglings on board.

Well, May ended with a heatwave for many of us, I know my housework took a bit of a dip last week. But back to normal now as we head into June. A big thank you to Hazel for leading us through May Flowers

A few pointers: Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - I took one for the team and signed up when the website was down last year, you get about 4 a day - you have been warned! 😂

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines. Try not to do too much at once, you don't want to get overwhelmed.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through each month, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission. I will explain these further as we come across them.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse (handbag) out. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day - no missions
Sunday: renew your spirit - no missions

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Daily missions: for the zone we are in.https://www.flylady.net/daily-mission

Baby steps: it's not technically flylady, but they're still working on the new site. https://mymerrymessylife.com/flylady-31-baby-steps/

Morning everyone , sending you a coffee ☕️ I’ll catch up on the thread during my coffee breaks , from a quick scan looks like there were some great lists !

I wasn’t myself last week but feeling better today after a day of doing nothing yesterday! I watched tv and crafted most of the day, spent some time with dd2 and had a non rushed shower. The downside is I’m not prepared for the week but will soon catch up 🙂

tada
✅ 30 mins uniform ironing
✅ coffee and breakfast

The plan for this evening is 30 mins tidying downstairs, 30 mins tidying upstairs, dust and hoover throughout . I have no kids clubs, tea is roast dinner leftovers so hoping to get the above completed by about 7ish so I can fit some crochet / cross stitch in 😊

Alwaysgrowing · 15/06/2026 06:48

Hi all
@Searchingforsparkle days like that are so good. When I went back to working at the hospital, I found 4 weekdays too much for my mental health, despite doing more hours in a different job. It's more tiring but more rewarding. Anyway, I now do 3 days, and Mondays are kidfree from 9-3 and I try and leave it empty, to either rest like you did or do housework. But this month I have various training that I decided I wanted to do enough to swap days for those weeks and rearrange childcare, but the 4 day course is so dull and unengaging. I've got my 2nd to last day today, then a bonus Thursday off. So it's DDS birthday on Friday and I've booked it off, so I've actually got a mini break from work, from Wednesday and back the following Tuesday.

Ps I don't iron clothes, nothing bad happened yet. My DD wears a smart shirt in the winter term. I ironed it for the first day. Then she decided she loves pinafore dresses so you can't even see it. Her hair always looks more messy than her uniform. My washing machine doesn't make clothes come out creased as long as they get hung up.

I'm streamlining workload and ironing doesn't make the cut.

ElegantlyDecluttering · 15/06/2026 07:48

I rarely iron either but I bought a small hand held steamer last year and keep a coathanger on a hook in my bedroom so I can quickly put anything creased on there and give it a blast, it wouldn’t do for super smart but for every day it’s great. Never have ironed bedding etc.

@BloomingHazel in Minging Things Our DCs Have Done Part 2 - I discovered in amongst DD’s uni things a crate of unwashed dishes from last week. It was catered accomm but they had a little kitchenette and virtually no storage space so kept her crockery in their rooms, DD’s was in a small folding crate. She assures me this was a one-off due to partying heavily in the last few days. Anyway it’s all been through the DW here now.

We are in The Bathroom and One Other Room this week and our mission today is to do a 27 Fling Boogie in the main bathroom, this means chucking out anything half-empty, nerve going to be used, old toilet roll centres etc.

https://www.flylady.net/daily-mission/20260615-zone-3-mission-1-monday-your-main-bathroom-and-another-room

I’m running a bit late today but will look at the babysteps again later. Monday is Home Blessing Day where we run the vac round, empty bins, dust etc.

Zone 3 Mission #1 Monday Your Main Bathroom and Another Room

Zone 3: Mission #1 Monday Dear Friends:We have moved through the zones and we have arrived in the bathroom and an extra room!

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
Pleased to report all fish smell has gone 😄
I'm on week two of a rotten cold, touch wood it's not going to be a repeat of last year's constant bugs.
Laundry's up to date.
I haven't ironed anything for ages, but I've bought some linen/cotton trousers which I really need to, but might invest in a steamer. @ElegantlyDecluttering can I ask which one you've got?

ElegantlyDecluttering · 15/06/2026 09:44

It's the Tefal Pure Pop @CherryogDog which is a small travel one, it is great but doesn't hold much water, if you wanted to do a whole load of things you'd have to keep refilling the little reservoir. I'd look at bigger ones if I was choosing again now, but it was an impulse buy on Black Friday a couple of years ago.

OP posts:
Searchingforsparkle · 15/06/2026 15:16

I have really tried not ironing but I can’t do it 🤣 I don’t feel put together if everyone’s clothes aren’t ironed - strange isn’t it!

tada
✅ everyone ready for the day
✅ doctors appt
✅ breakfast pots cleared
✅ school run
✅ money put on ds school account
✅ timesheets submitted
✅ work

ElegantlyDecluttering · 15/06/2026 16:20

I should add I used to iron before I got the steamer, I wouldn't go out in crumpled clothes but I haven't really used the iron since getting the steamer. I haven't ironed for the DCs since they stopped wearing school shirts at 16, on the rare occasions they want to look a bit smarter now they iron their own. They are not overly image-conscious and DS does manual work. I'd be more inclined to iron if we could leave the ironing board up somewhere or have one of those nifty pull out ones, pre DCs ours was in the spare room and easy to do little and often but now with no spare room we have to haul it out and across our room, reach into an awkward place to plug it in etc. DH does a huge batch of his own things once a fortnight or so.

Morning everyone, sending you a coffee or 2 ☕️

Alot of my friends don’t iron , they use the tumble dryer . DD1 says no one irons at uni , she has certain things she will iron but most things she won’t. I really have tried not to , it would save me so much time but I just can’t lol I am not as bad as I used to be - socks and underwear used to be ironed so they would sit nice in the drawer 😂 just main clothing now !

tada
✅ coffee

I didn’t complete any of the things I had planned last night , everyone was fed and supported with homework’s and spent time with . I didn’t even craft , just went to bed and read for a while . Ahh well , hopefully will get more ticked off today 🙂

RainbowZebraWarrior · 16/06/2026 06:31

I don't iron either. Haven't for around 15 years. I do have an iron somewhere still as I occasionally use it to attach iron on patches.

I did my bathroom late last week, so skipped yesterday's mission. It was also a bisy day for me with candle making and honey cutting. Later on, though, I got thrme urge to do the 27 fling boogie, so dragged my massive log basket outside and tipped it upside down. Who knew how much crap could accumulate in a log basket! Around 50 copies of old waitrose magazines and a load of pompoms! Needless to say, there are more than 27 items now gone - in fact the basket is empty - Mostly into the recycling bin.

I will do the shine the tub thing today but it's a difficult one for me as I have an electronic bath chair in the middle of the bath. It largely involves filling the tub with a few inches of water, squirting in some Milton, letting it sit for a while then giving a scrub with an old dish brush, pull plug and rinse with a kettle of hot water. I'll add in the towel dry for a shinier outcome. It has reminded me though that I need to replace the seal on my shower screen. Hoping I should be able to pick up this at B&Q as I am passing today. That would be a great job ticked off the list.

CherryogDog · 16/06/2026 07:12

Thanks @ElegantlyDecluttering for recommendation.
I mostly wear leggings, fleeces, stretchy jeans which don't need ironing. Downside is that you don't realise how much weight you're piling on until you dig out last year's summer lightweight clothes 😁

ElegantlyDecluttering · 16/06/2026 07:16

And I found last night that DD (20) didn't know how to iron a shirt. I used to do the school ones, then she's ironed the occasional tee shirt but always worn the sort of close fit ribbed ones that don't need ironing for "smart casual" and dresses that don't need ironing for "properly smart". She says no one irons at uni too. But she's starting a job with uniform today and last night was going "Mum, help me with these shirts" just as I had finished painting my nails so I had had to talk her through it. Which is why I didn't get round to coming back to post about Babysteps, that and the football (I have Cape Verde in the work sweepstake).

Anyway. moving on to Tuesday. Today's mission is to shine our tubs and showers https://www.flylady.net/daily-mission

Tuesday is Plan and Play Day. I am going out out tonight so that is playing, planning I do need to do some because DD is needing lifts to this job, it's only temporary but fortunately quite near where I work, but I can't do all the days because of other commitments. So that needs a bit of planning.

Fly Lady

Welcome!

Morning all - I just iron dcs school uniforms and my work tops (I wouldnt have to if they got hung up straight from the dryer but mostly they dont so......) - I am interested in a streamer though. I might have a look on the amazon prime day event for one next week.

Super tired and achey and it's only Tuesday!

My DH uses our log basket as an alternative wastepaper bin Sad so it gets crumpled receipts etc in it, he says it's to burn them because of fraud but I have noticed he quite happily puts all sorts of other things in the recycling with his name and address in full on them so I think it is just laziness (there is a wastepaper basket in the same room)

✅ showered , ready for the day
✅ everyone’s breakfast
✅ washer on
✅ washing hung up on heated airer
✅ bed stripped and put in the washer on a timer
✅ all surfaces downstairs cleared and ready for dusting
✅ surfaces in my bedroom cleared ready for dusting
✅ school run

About to go into work but impressed with my before work list this morning 🙂 hopefully it’ll carry on after work 😬

Yeah I guess this is exactly what was happening with mine too, although I only have myself to blame. I was adding more crap than I was able to burn. At the very bottom were old scribblings fron DD from around 8 years ago. She would have been about six and is now almost 15!

I am very proud of a job well done so thank you again for pointing me in the direction of you lovely fly ladies.

BloomingHazel · 16/06/2026 15:17

I used to iron, then changed jobs, to a job with no dress code, so I don't iron anymore! Even DSs shirt for his suit he wears for concerts doesn't need it! I do use a dryer for everything though.
Come to think of it, even my mum doesn't iron much these days, and she used to iron socks and underwear all the time!
My dad always had a fabric handkerchief, with a certain way to fold them (and iron in those folds). I still remember how he liked it, even though I hadn't had to do that since I was a teenager living at home.

Cherry I agree that always wearing leggings and stretchy clothing makes it so I don't realise the weight I'd put on since last year. Even though I weigh myself daily..
I actually recently looked at some pictures of last summer of me and was horrified. Since then I've been feeling extra frumpy. I confess, I have started taking wegovy in tablet form for a couple of weeks now. I've been struggling to lose even 10 pounds, but honestly need to lose closer to 20. It's just not shifting. It's actually helping with the food noise so I'm able to focus on what I'm eating, but also the amount. I was told I won't really see a loss in the first month, which is true.

Anyway, sorry for rambling. Other than DH and MIL (and not sure she's remembered), no one else knows I'm taking it. I know I'd get judged because I don't have much to lose, even though FIL & SIL are on WLIs (they have a lot more to lose, especially FIL), for medical reasons as well.

Still rambling, sorry!

Anyway, I have a full day ahead of me. I made another batch of caramels last night, I need to wrap them today and put them in bags/gift boxes to sell.

To dos:
☕️ laundry
☕️ take DS to his eye doctor appt
☕️ sit at home and wait for drinking water service (no set time, just told "afternoon") 🙄
☕️ grocery shopping (nope, didn't get done on Sunday)
☕️ finish caramels
☕️ deliver some caramels (or have them stop by the house)
☕️ pay a bill I keep forgetting about 🤦‍♀️ it's the chiropractor copay I didn't realise I owed!

I also want to get some housework done, that I may be able to do while waiting for culligan.

ElegantlyDecluttering · 17/06/2026 08:21

Morning, sorry forgot to post before leaving for work, I will catch up later, the link from yesterday should still work

I got a few things done yesterday:
🍬 wrapped caramels
🍬 LOLs x5
🍬 vacuumed hard floors with stick vacuum
🍬 mopped hard floors
🍬 clean both bathrooms
🍬 washed shower curtains & floor mats
🍬 took DS to the eye doctor
🍬 grocery shopping
🍬 delivered an order of caramels

Today I'm off sick. There's a 24hr bug going around and it hit me 😫 I'm the 3rd one in the office to get it. There's 4 of us in the office! Days apart though.
I was awake quite a bit in the early hours (3:45am-4:30am) up and down of course. I texted my boss after getting up the 5th time.
I woke up again at 6:30am, fed the dogs etc that time, went back to bed just after 7am.
I woke up again at 11am!
It's going to be a day of lounging on the couch, watching Netflix and napping I think. No more ta das from me!

Alwaysgrowing · 17/06/2026 21:26

Get well soon hazel?

I'm snuggled in the naughty corner as I haven't done much housework. I have the next couple of days off and took ds to the farm park. Actually I did one lol (it's not away yet) and cleaned the kitchen sink. I didn't wake up with a headache but didn't drink enough today. I used the toilet loads at the farm and was aware when I was leaving and going straight to the school run I wouldn't have a toilet available for ages. After I got home, I kept seeing a full glass of water I thought I'd drunk.

Ds 3 years old had a 3 hour nap this afternoon, so who knows when he's going to sleep tonight. DD has been tired, I actually thought she had a bruise under her eye when I collected her from school but it's a dark circle. She has assesment week, plus her 8th birthday coming up this weekend and a school play so it's a bit much.

ElegantlyDecluttering · 17/06/2026 23:47

I'm in the naughty corner too having been out of the house for 15 hours both yesterday and today then flopping to watch the football. Hope you feel better soon @BloomingHazel

Today our mission is to toass any empty perfume and toiletries that might have survived the 27 fling boogie earlier in the week (bit of a cop out I feel). Yesterday’s was to wash bathmats, shower curtains etc. It is overcast but warm here this morning, forecast full sun later, I will be out till mid afternoon but weput 2 x LOL on the line last night and I will do more when I get home. Will try and catch up with babysteps then too

Hope you're over the worst @BloomingHazel

I had to laugh at yesterday's mission. Bathroom rugs and shower curtain. I have a small bathmat and no shower curtain. The bathmat will go in with the towels when I do them on Saturday (looks like a good day for LOL) so I did a bit of garden tidying instead.

I think you're right about it being a bit of a cop out today @ElegantlyDecluttering but then I don't suppose it will harm to do another quick sweep.

Muggy this morning. So Muggy. My joints hate it!

Alwaysgrowing · 18/06/2026 10:25

I've been chilling on the sofa, definitely need to get moving. but have a list written on paper. So I'm not going to copy it but I'll add it

Todo
🌷My paper list
🌷 Use timers to get off my bum!

ElegantlyDecluttering · 18/06/2026 10:30

We only have one bathroom and one bathmat, which gets washed weekly with the towels. We do have a shower curtain, used to be a white cotton one which I took down and washed every few weeks on a hot cycle with some soda crystals to get rid of limescale and general gunk. But then we got a water softener and changed to a very pretty floral patterned curtain which doesn't show the dirt and I haven't done it for ages. Maybe this is the week.

OP posts:
Alwaysgrowing · 18/06/2026 20:59

Did most of the list, bet because I also have tomorrow off I delayed lots of the tidying. I thought when we talked last night my husband said he wanted to wrap DDS presents but turns out he also said, but as you've at home you could wrap them. But I must have got my awnser and switched off!

Anyway I felt a bit bad as the living rooms a mess and DH was wrapping presents just now so I tidied the floor where ds was playing, thinking the presents would go there, but he put.it on the crumb covered living room table and moved my stuff on the floor and knocked water over. I did feel bad, but responded by angrily saying I'll do that.

I hope she has a good birthday.
