Can anyone help me to find some really, really long curtains please? : )

I have been searching on ebay and google but not come up with any long enough.

They have to be quite thick as it is old windows - French doors rather, so thicker the better (barring concrete, it doesn't 'drape' well )

The windows are 120" or 10ft long, width isn't enormous (maybe about 8-9ft) but the length is a real problem.

I don't know how to make good curtains either, but it might be the only option!

Thanks

Honestly, I think mixing and matching two pairs, especially when one is v patterned and one plain, will look a bit dodgy. Like you just had two random pairs of curtains left from where you used to live.

I like Gorel, in the dark green or red, though, and they are lined, so should hang nicely.

Are you hoping that they will keep out drafts?

3littlefrogs · 29/05/2008 17:29

Making curtains really isn't all that hard, and you can get some lovely material in those warehouse type places. If you put up a curtain pole you could make 4 curtains rather than 2, and that would be easier to handle and sew IYSWIM.

You could put the two patterned panels up to meet in the middlle and the two plain ones to the outside of them. Looks fab in the right pattern/colours.

WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 17:37

That's what I was thinking Solo, I'm not sure, I can see what you mean MissB.

I like the dark green Gorel too but it doesn't match any part of the Unn..whatsit ones.

Yes, was hoping to keep out draughts/drafts? but not sure if they would.

Littlefrogs I might well just do that, then could make them to drag on the floor a little as well I guess.

Not sure how to make them while maximising the draughtproofing qualities - would you interline as well?

Concrete might be simpler actually

maybe just brick up the window

WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 19:52

Aha! Just been upstairs to check some material I've had for years. I think it came from a charity shop.

There is approx. 28 feet of it plus another 6ft6 piece - it's 48/50" wide.

It's lovely but could I do anything with it?

I am rubbish at working this sort of thing out so any ideas very much appreciated!

Thankyou all for being so helpful

..that's about 8 metres or just over...I think?

Windows are 3m drop...

these any good?

solo · 29/05/2008 21:02

Go for it. They arenn't difficult to make! honestly. There must be a book in the library or something online you could go by to boost your confidence...

WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 21:06

Gosh they are lovely...will watch them I think and see what price they look like reaching. But I am still looking wistfully at the Ikea ones. I am half decided to get a pair of the Gorel green ones and then I look at the Unni ones and think they'd look better - not sure! Argh

WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 21:19

I think I'm going to get a pair of the Gorel ones. Then make another pair of narrower ones using my fabric, then hang them beside each other.

The green should really pick up in the pattern, and it's a south facing room so green is Ok I think.

If anyone is going to an Ikea over the next few days perhap I could be cheeky and ask you to get me a pair - I will paypal you in advance or can send a cheque if that's better?

If it's awkward then no worries

I'll cover postage as well, of course.

Well, I guess it largely depends on the rest of your decor. The pattern is very busy and very bright, so will be quite restrictive...IF though, you put a complimentary plain curtain to either side of them, so that you don't have a vast expanse, then that opens up the door to lots of thing. IMO.

WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 21:24

Piccy of fabric on profile

Oh I meant the plain ones actually - I love those red and yellow mad ones but you're right, it is a bit full on! It would go with the furniture (various red/yellow painted things) but the green plain ones will go with my liberty material I think.

Do you reckon? These are the ones.

OP posts:
solo · 29/05/2008 21:28

sorry, that was about the ikea bright ones obviously;)

WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 21:28

But scroll down the colour thingy to green, not the yellow green ones (eek)

Keep cross posting wit you!!

OP posts:
solo · 29/05/2008 21:39

I can't say really say...If it were me, I'd take a piece of the fabric with me to check it out before buying/making them. The Ikea ones in that light greeny colour may clash with the greens in your picture. HTH.

solo · 29/05/2008 21:40

The last colour in the list yes?

WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 21:42

No it's the middle one, it's a darker green. The yellowy green is a bit ick, isn't it?

OP posts:
CoolYourJets · 29/05/2008 21:44

I think I would poss put a narrow band of your fabric at the inner part of the ikea ones and a wider band at the outside.

I suspect that would tie it all together better.

solo · 29/05/2008 21:44

I'm going blind! yes, I see it now, but I totally couldn't!!! If those pictures(yours and the Ikea)are colour true, then yes, they could work well! Very different to those first Ikea ones you talked of though!

solo · 29/05/2008 21:48

Yes, that could work CYJ, as long as the pattern is matched properly, otherwise it could look like leftovers patched together...do you agree?

WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 21:49

Ha! I am glad you approve Solo

Yes a bit more 'refained' innit?
Thanks for taking the time to give me your thoughts.

Coolyourjets - good idea, I'm not sure if I'm clever enough but will bear in mind!

OP posts:
WonderingWhy · 29/05/2008 21:49

They would look like that if I did it, definitely...
