2025 decluttering
W/E 23/03
2025 – (469 + 41 = 510) = 1515 to go

A pretty good week which is useful as won't have too much time this week due to weekend away. Off to a good start this morning though with 6 Vinted sales, one within 30 seconds of me uploading it 😲They were packed and on their way by lunchtime.

A weekend away is not only a Very Good Thing it's also a great opportunity to use up some travel and sample sizes of toiletries etc! (Must not bring any back though...)

Digital

Stuff used up and not replaced
Vitamin sprays x 2, wound gel, scented candle, notebook = 5

Recycled/binned
Pairs of socks x 5, vest with hole in, expired pickles, nail clippers taht are rubbish, plant pots x 9, garden rubbish bags x 2, envelope of old receipts, lighter = 21

Charity shop
Linen top, fleece top, zip-up fleece, running socks x 6, decorative tin, sling back pads, dress tapes, book = 13

Vinted
Sales x 2

SydneyCarton · 24/03/2025 16:08

Bag of old shoes to the textile recycling bin at school. Have another bag of rejected soft toys to take tomorrow, and have started a new charity shop bag for the nicer things

IndianSummer78 · 24/03/2025 19:10

Jobs:

  1. Hang up framed pictures: this has now changed to critically go through the framed artwork as we’ve agreed we don’t actually want all of it?
  2. DS2 paperwork: blue badge started
  3. my British passport application - waiting to hear then go to a citizenship ceremony: Heard it’s been approved whoop. Now need to book a ceremony slot
  4. DS1’s gaming, PC, nerf collections to go through and tidy
  5. Portfolio work - waiting for more to be marked, more to do, always

scooter hooks x 3 onto FB

SydneyCarton · 25/03/2025 12:58

Soft toy bag now chucked in the recycling bin at school, and a bunch of three month old party bags that had been hanging around on the dining table thrown in the bin. No one has noticed or cared 🙄

AllMyClothesToTheTip · 25/03/2025 13:33

Oh, I’d love to join in.

I’ve got a week off work. I was planning on spring cleaning but not got very far!

Yesterday I did 2 gym sessions and batch cooked and started on clear out. My whole bedroom is a jumble sale as I’m turning it upside down as I have lost weight and nothing fits.

1 DC room is sorted as he is at Uni and I’ve gone through it. Spare rooms done. It’s my kitchen, master bed/ bathroom and DC2 room that need Stacey Solomon over.

I’m out shopping. I’ve got 2 sets of toiletries recycling on me, some clothes recycling to exchange at H&M and returns to make.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get up really early and blitz one room in total. Uni DC coming home on Friday and I’d like it done by then.

I’ve a very busy year ahead. I’ve taken up a sport that takes up a lot of time, got a new job in addition to my p/t job and I can’t think straight if my house isn’t in order. I’m also trying to fill my freezer before my other job starts in 3 weeks.

For those of you selling on Vinted, would you mind sharing your tips with me? I want to get rid of things but feel overwhelmed in how to start.

All of you who are doing it seem very successful at it. I wonder how you price your things and what sort of items you’re selling. Also, your overall experience with it.

TIA

Good clear photos taken in daylight. Include a photo of the care instructions tag. Wait to list stuff untill about 7pm. Friday and Saturday are best - more people on the app. Price things £1 or £2 more than you want to get. People love to think they're getting a bargain - when people favourite an item, send them an offer at £1 or £2 less. Accept any offers people send, some money is better than none and you want to get rid!

List similar stuff at once eg all your size 14s, then all your 12s, then all your kid's clothes. It helps people find similar stuff they might want to buy a bundle from you.

If it hasn't sold in 2 weeks, re list it

I sell decent highstreet brands eg, phase eight, John Lewis, hobbs, monsoon, m&s and also supermarket stuff. I don't bother selling Shein stuff or Primark.

Tend to price at around £5 to £15 depending on the brand and if it's currently fashionable.

Can I just check. Is that 3339 things you’ve decluttered out your house?

LivingInaBuiltSite · 26/03/2025 13:14

About to go to bed for a bit as start night shifts tonight, so probably won’t get much done the next few days.

Thanks - no passport yet. I’ve just been approved to become a British citizen. I need to book the swearing in ceremony, then I can use that certificate to apply for my British passport. You can hold both Irish and UK but it can help for travel in certain places.

I found about six children’s magazines that were good quality. I added them to
the three bags of charity shop stuff in the playroom and took the whole lot to a charity shop. The bag mainly contained books, magazine and rags from the last few weeks. I also put a bag of 18 coat hangers in the car and two bags of used batteries and bulbs to get recycled when I next go supermarket shopping.

AllMyClothesToTheTip · 26/03/2025 18:39

Inspired by you lot.

I went through all my clothes, and put the Autumn/ Winter stuff away. I put about 20 pieces into a recycling bag that I am going to take to H&M and get the £5 for 5 pieces. There are some clothes I need in my new size after my weightloss and I'll shop there.

I sorted out 12 books for Oxfam.

I also sorted out about 10 things that I need to wash, and then put on Vinted.

A very productive day.

don leave the booking for too long as the sessions are far and wide in between and you need to have it done within the 3 months after you get the email stating that it’s been approved.

Riverswims · 27/03/2025 08:14

been struggling a bit coz this house just does not have the built-in storage our old house and I can’t get any made coz rented did so it’s all in one room now which is very silly and wasteful, also been trying to give away good stuff and had 3 timewasters already on olio, also visited the new (to me) dump lol, youngest 2 unwell so we’re all home today, I’ll report back later 👋🏽 happy decluttering 😋

Pigtailsandall · 27/03/2025 13:58

I keep thinking about posting daily but I forget!

Day 84 was school shoes that dc said were uncomfortable
Days 85-86 (today) were 2 big journals, more like books, which I'm just not going to get around reading

Edited

Yes. Shocking isn't it? It's definitely made me rein-in my spending. It's not 100% accurate because I started during lockdown and hadn't found this thread then. I also used to not include my massive beauty/toiletries stash I'm working through, because I was on a specific thread for decluttering those, but I found seeing what everyone else was using encouraged me to buy more! So now I count that category on this thread too. Probably could add around another 500-1000 items to get an accurate total. I started on this thread 1-2yrs ago (I've lost count!) and it took until 1500 items before there was a noticeable improvement in my home. So don't lose hope if you're just starting out and can't see a difference yet. I'm not a full-scale hoarder but I do have some tendencies, so there's a lot of stuff here and I've never decluttered before since moving out of my childhood home in my early 20s. I don't reset my count in January like most because I am curious to know what the final figure will be. I count everything, big or small, if it's been hanging around any time. I'm getting better at not keeping things "just in case", like packaging and junk mail. Good luck with your decluttering journey.

Riverswims time wasters are the pits.

Livinginabuiltsite what does a swearing-in ceremony consist of? It all sounds rather fancy.

Out today-

Worn out slippers (on taking out the next pair the slipper storage, that was previously totally crammed and too full, now has a little gap in it for the first time 🎉)
Worn out trainers (been dithering over these for a while but they're dirty and don't come clean, plus they're squashed down inside so not that comfortable any more for anything other than short distances. It's not as if I have no other shoes 😆)
Dead washing machine to the tip (not quite so happy about that! 😩)

Total is 3342

Pigtailsandall · 28/03/2025 20:48

Day 87 - broken kids toy. I think we are due a small toy declutter anyway.

Lots of ins though - DC shot up in height and all the t-shirts from last year are too small. Have ordered 3, plus a hoodie, sweatshirt, 3 pyjamas and swimming stuff
