One pair of school socks into the fabric recycling bag yesterday, as there was a hole in one sock and the other was wearing out.

Still not recovered from being ill last week so not much getting done around here in general, though I have caught up with the laundry and taken advantage of the nice weather to dry things outside.

Hello all. I’ve been following this thread as I’m a constant declutterer, although I don’t keep track on what I’m getting rid of. I enjoy it, it’s very therapeutic, and the DC have recently got much better at letting go of their old toys and things that they didn’t use any more, which has been very satisfying.

We give everything to charity. I could do with extra money but I’ve sold more expensive items on a local selling site in the past and it’s not been worth it with the time taking photos, writing descriptions and dealing with time wasters. I’ve never tried selling on vinted as then I don’t want the hassle of packing up and sending.

Also once we’ve made the decision to get rid of things I like to get them out of the house asap.

I'm more than just a bit of a hoarder. Hoarding ironically is similar to OCD which seems bonkers. But Vinted is bit like my ritual in a decluttering cycle. I list about 30-40 things a month and make about £50-£100. But it's not just the money. It gives me validation the object has little value to me anymore do it's to let it go.

The rituals are a bit weird but I'm doing OK with them. I got rid of over 2024 items last year. But more importantly I don't buy things on a whim in the sales anymore.

I have to get rid of 20 of my items this month. That's going to be painful as I do just donate my stuff. But with vinted I sort and put it in bag so I have pre decided it's OK to go weeks before

Forgot to drop off the uniform at the shed today - my inlaws do the school pick up so I miss the opening times then and it's only open at drop off once a week, so will have to wait till next Wednesday. I can take a bag of ordinary textiles for the bin tomorrow though, and must post a Vinted parcel to clear out all my current sales.

Day 120 declutter- outgrown school jumper

IncessantNameChanger · 30/04/2025 18:53

15 items out from my wardrobe. I'm going to try on everything I have and I have marked what I have tried on. My target was 20 items of my clothes for this month so pleased with 1 hours effort but honestly I could get rid of so much more. I have so many clothes I can't even count them 😪

ememem84 · 30/04/2025 19:25

@IncessantNameChanger im the same. So much stuff! I’m going to spend Friday trying everything on.

i did buy myself two pairs of wide legged trousers in H&M today. Didn’t try them on.

if they’re not right I’ll pack them up for when I go to Manchester next weekend and return them (we don’t have H&M at home in Jersey)

finished more toiletries today. So those don’t have to come home with me.

More decluttering from DH today. This time from his car:

24x papers which were once very important and now very footprinty
1x pine cone (no idea)
2x face mask

And my contribution to the cause:

2 x water bottle type stickers included as a gift in an online purchase of 2 pairs of pants (why do companies do this? Charge me less for the product and keep your daft sticker! Stop giving me clutter. Why would a person buying underwear want random stickers? What is the relevance? )

(I was also proud of myself not for decluttering, but for repurposing - I found some leggings, bought years ago and not been worn. I will never wear leggings again now! But I am in need of chub rub shorts to go under summer dresses. Snip snip with my scissors and voila!)

I am very happy to announce that I made my first Vinted sell and another one is on the way. I am now looking forward to listing things so that they can go to someone who can use them.

IncessantNameChanger · 01/05/2025 14:48

5 items of my clothing out today and five of dds

I'm slowly working my way through my wardrobe. So got the 20 items out but I will only be done when I have tried on everything. I think I will try on 20 things a day. Then I need to declutter in front of my wardrobe as got a pile of weekend bags and shoes

4 expired medicines from the bathroom cabinet. Some dregs of TCP that went out of date in June 2014 was the winner 😆
Decluttered the pantry of expired foodstuffs too, but I'm not counting those because it's maintenance.

I’ve booked a charity collection with Anglo Collections next week and am planning a ruthless cull this weekend in preparation. My plan is to have a ‘meeting’ with each of the DC individually in their bedrooms where we have a decluttering session, particularly any winter clothes which they’ve either outgrown or didn’t like enough to wear at all this winter. They’re teens/nearly teens so old enough to get on board with this, though will probably still respond well to some sort of icecream bribery!

You’ve inspired me… same.

I’m now left without pretty shoes tho…. So hard to find comfy ones.

IncessantNameChanger · 02/05/2025 09:59

I really need to do a deep dive to find ds FOUR PAIRS! of lost glasses.

MiddlingMarch · 02/05/2025 10:16

I've just filled a bag of clothes and a bag of curtains to donate to charity.

The curtains are a huge relief as DH insisted we kept them from a house move despite then being the wrong width and drop for this house. Only took 2 years for him to agree they could go. He gets weirdly attached to curtains, none of these were expensive!

The clothes are those that I've accepted are the wrong style for my body shape, ones I've not worn in years and those I no longer love. I was surprised how much I had to get rid of, but it was easy to be a little more ruthless. Another day I'll go through my jeans and see how many pairs I can wear (fit into), how many need repaired and how many are beyond repair.

Also sending back some solar lights that don't work, before I would have put them in a corner and forgotten about them.

Pigtailsandall · 02/05/2025 11:46

My first Vinted sale in ages for day 122, a jumper that was too small. Also got to package it in one of my "useful" boxes!

Hasthisreallyhappened · 02/05/2025 14:20

Really hoping that the weather holds for the Monday, Mayfair at our local Village hall.

I’ve two really big bags of items for the bric a brac stall. I’m sitting on the sofa at the moment contemplating getting off of it and going and hunting out lots more things to go in those bags.

IncessantNameChanger · 02/05/2025 15:28

60 bits of tiny tat in the bin but no sign of any glasses.

EllieQ · 02/05/2025 17:16

Counted up my total decluttered items for April, which was only 5 things, and brings my total for 2025 to 146 things. I can blame the low amount in April on being away over Easter followed by being ill for over a week, but I still feel quite dispirited about it all.

A lot of the issues are ‘structural’ for want of a better word - I need to clear X, but need to make space in Y to put away things from X, but can’t clear Y because of Z needing to be dealt with. Everything seems insurmountable.

EllieQ · 02/05/2025 17:38

On a more positive note, I’ve just put two small storage boxes on the local FB freecycle page. Hopefully someone will want them!

IncessantNameChanger · 02/05/2025 18:21

83 so far out for may not too shabby

Maybe loosing ds glasses has some positives after all.
