I have searched MumsNet and there isn’t really an ongoing positive/appreciative thread sharing the joys and tribulations of having an Aga.

My first experience of an Aga was accidental when the holiday accommodation we booked a few years ago had an Aga. As we’d taken our own food I had to crack on. I used it for warming up pre-cooked food in one of the ovens and I did a few things on the simmering & boiling plates including the famed Aga toast. We all loved the soft warmth it brought to the kitchen and to be honest for as big as they are we thought it look homely and inviting. We were hooked! From what I could gather it heated the water in the cottage too.

They have many uses and I’m interested in what other people appreciate their Aga for, their favourite recipes and any hints and tips you can share.

PS - Im not trying to be insensitive in the current energy pricing crisis and I understand that not everyone will see the merit of this thread ❤️

@Hedgesgalore Your home will be heated through now what with the Aga being on a couple of months. How was your Christmas 🎄x

I didn't have to cook Christmas dinner, though I've done a roast or two and used it for the Christmas cake (which was fabulous, though I say so myself). I make all our bread in it.

Haven't got the hang of toast yet, partly because the bread lives next to the toaster, from which DH is not to be parted.

Sounds good! I have done a few loafs as my other half eats its. It always smells delicious 😋 Disappointedly as a celiac I’m unable to have any. OH also says Christmas cake is lovely cooked in Aga.

Being a coeliac involves a lot of thought when cooking until you get into the swing of it - a friend of ours was diagnosed in his 30s.

I should have added, I've made a lot of soup - bring to boil on top, shove into simmering oven and forget about it until the next mealtime.

@MissyGirlie I totally agree about soup. Also making stock is a breeze. Similarly bring to the boil, lid on & then into the simmering oven. I love a good stock! x

I must try that - I didn't make stock previously because I hated the smell.
