How do you get your washing to smell really lovely ?

Do you ever walk past somebody and they smell amazing ! Or a friend washes your clothes and it smells lovely ? 🤣

I used to get this with my own washing but find the different detergents just are not as strong anymore ? I used to use blue comfort and my clothes would smell amazing for days and it seems like it's so concentrated now.

I have tried using unstopables and they make my washing smell lovely but so expensive.

Just wondered if anyone is using powders over capsules or any little hacks
.
I have a brand new washing machine so don't believe it's an issue with that. X

Mine always smells best when it’s line dried on a windy day.

LindorDoubleChoc · 22/07/2024 19:33

I like a waft of someone's perfume or aftershave rather than their laundry products.

Frosty1000 · 22/07/2024 19:35

Maybe you are smelling their perfume as opposed to their clothes?

I personally don't like the fabric conditioner smell so sometimes my washing doesn't smell of anything apart from fresh air.

Ereyraa · 22/07/2024 20:03

I used Smol for a while and got lots of compliments on the scent of clothes

AnnaMagnani · 22/07/2024 20:06

No Confused I mean sometimes you will walk past someone wearing perfume.

And very occasionally you will get a whiff of fabric conditioner but it never smells 'amazing' just of fabric conditioner. And I wonder how they put up with the smell all day.

WonderingWanda · 22/07/2024 20:07

I actually don't like the overpowering laundry scents. I prefer bog standard persil with no scent and then dried on the line ....that is my favourite smell.

I've definitely had people walk past me and I can smell washing powder and it smells really clean and fresh ☺️ definitely not perfume / aftershave

I use Tallow & Ash. I'm addicted to the smell! I actually look forward to doing laundry now.

My favourite scent is Date Night but I love all of them. Never thought I'd become addicted to laundry. 😂

Soontobe60 · 22/07/2024 20:10

I’m a teacher - Mondays are awful when the overwhelming smell of freshly washed uniform makes me sneeze endlessly!
Just remember, laundry that is strongly scented is full of artificial perfumes and therefore bad for the environment.

littlejo67 · 01/08/2024 20:20

I have swapped to non bio fairy platinum pods... Gets every stain out. Can't stop sniffing the laundry.

MadamePeriwinkle · 01/08/2024 20:22

Tallow and Ash in Oud. But there’s only me so it doesn’t work out too expensive.

They do trial packs of sachets which is a good way to find your favourite fragrance.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 01/08/2024 20:27

I tried Tallow and Ash but couldn’t stand the smell, so strong even when used at quarter dose. I binned the lot.
I use Aerial, minimal amount of Comfort and line dry at every opportunity.

Gooselady · 01/08/2024 20:31

Hang it on the line outside. Nothing beats that smell. So fresh.

SeeSeeRider · 01/08/2024 20:35

I hate the smell of those scented laundry products. They are not "lovely" to me. The aromas are anything but subtle, even the perfumes in Home Bargains smell better. They set off my asthma and DH and the kids don't like them.

shams05 · 01/08/2024 20:36

There was a similar thread recently where someone advised to only fill the washer to 3/4 full. I love just the line dried smell, not always possible obviously but as often as it is

Tisfortired · 01/08/2024 20:38

I recently bought a bottle of the tropical scent of Lenor Outdoorable and it smells incredible. Several people have asked me what I’m using in the last couple of weeks.

Ive been using unscented non bio, the outdoorable and drying outside and I can’t stop sniffing myself 😆

the tropical scent of Lenor Outdoorable

My mother uses it. I hate it. Made me cough. I won't let her use it on our laundry.

onwardandupwards · 01/08/2024 20:45

Persil liquid and then line dried whenever possible even on dry winter days.

If my mum was volunteering to do my washing I’d let use literally anything on it

StrongandNorthern · 01/08/2024 21:07

Line dried. No fabric conditioner - ever.

Maybe that's OK for you, but I'd have to wash it again, a couple of times. Asthma's and smell sensitivity are bitches. 'Literally' anything? Urine? Bleach? Baby Bio liquid compost? (That's what 'literally anything' implies).

AnnaMagnani · 01/08/2024 21:09

If my mum volunteered to do my washing (which she did actually used to do whenever she visited) she also wouldn't want to kill her daughter in the process

Asthma + scented fabric conditioner doesn't mix

Unscented product and dried in the sunshine.
