How do you get your washing to smell really lovely ?

Do you ever walk past somebody and they smell amazing ! Or a friend washes your clothes and it smells lovely ? 🤣

I used to get this with my own washing but find the different detergents just are not as strong anymore ? I used to use blue comfort and my clothes would smell amazing for days and it seems like it's so concentrated now.

I have tried using unstopables and they make my washing smell lovely but so expensive.

Just wondered if anyone is using powders over capsules or any little hacks
.
I have a brand new washing machine so don't believe it's an issue with that. X

I love the lenor well-being collection ones. The citrus one is so good. But the Jasmine and red berries is my favourite. Love it!

Scandiviews1 · 01/08/2024 21:30

Sometimes I think your nose just gets used to the washing powder you use. So you just need to change it for a completely different one and then go back to it. Drying stuff on the line as everyone says is the best though.

Having said that I love the smell of the new Persil speedy washing liquid. Can't remember the name but it's good.

OlympicsFanGirl · 01/08/2024 21:30

Lenor fabric conditioner in the wash and tumble dryer sheets in the dryer.

vanana · 01/08/2024 21:35

Unstoppables are literally poison. Your clothes shouldn’t smell of anything.

CryptoFascist · 01/08/2024 21:50

Method laundry liquid and fabric conditioner.

BeeandG · 01/08/2024 22:09

Smol capsules especially the clear ones. Smell lovely and drying outside makes a huge difference. I dry outside year round when weather allows. Clearing all the backlog at the moment!

Schoolchoicesucks · 01/08/2024 22:23

I tried Tesco own version of unstoppables. Around 1/4 of recommended "dose". Laundry smelt great, but irritated my skin. Took me a while to realise that's what it was so have had to reluctantly go back to unscented. Line dried does smell much better than dried indoors or in the drier.

ReformMyArse · 01/08/2024 22:32

I didn’t like Smol, thought it smelt of chemicals.

i use Ecover powder, it smells subtle but lovely. Their washing up liquid smells even better.

CKN · 01/08/2024 23:00

Different strokes for different folks though just don’t know how some people can describe fabric conditioner as poison.

outsidedoggy · 01/08/2024 23:02

M&S sandalwood liquid and fabric conditioner is lovely. I prefer it to any of the tallow + ash scents

Bathymamouth · 01/08/2024 23:08

I agree the m&s laundry liquid in the lovely clear ribbed bottles are lovely.

Screamingabdabz · 01/08/2024 23:11

Clean and hygienic smells of nothing.

Just wash and dry your clothes properly and wear a nice Chanel perfume.

Gonnaenodothat · 01/08/2024 23:15

I use basic wash powder with the blue or pink lenor outdoorables washing smells lovely for ages!

Justleaveitblankthen · 01/08/2024 23:15

Another vote for Fairy here. All of the variations, including the little ball thingies.
Divine 😍

Also this post was asking how you make your washing smell lovely. In the nicest way I wasn't wanting to open a debate to if washing should smell like anything or not. If you don't like the smell that's fine but this post wasn't asking for opinions on that 🙈🤣xx

I have to agree with line dried smells best ! I wish we could do it all year long x

I do smell this and on washing lines sometimes get a waft of something nice and wonder what it is . Thank you for this thread. Grin

Pinkflowersxo · 02/08/2024 12:02

For anyone following this thread I've been using the bold spring awakening powder rather than the capsules and I have to say it smells so much better ! X

Yep, another vote for Persil liquid then dry on the line. My neice put her nose into DS's shirt the other day and said 'oooo you smell lovely' 😆 Made me smile

Mumsnet hates fresh smelling laundry for some reason, so you probably won't get much help or advice on here.

I use ariel bio washing powder and lenor spring awakening fabric softener (the blue one). I find the liquid pods don't clean as well as powder.
I also only half load the machine as I find that a full load doesn't always wash properly. I wash darks at 60 with a splash of vinegar in the pre wash tab. Anything lower than 60 can leave a musty smell lingering. My laundry smells amazing.

I hate the smell of laundry dried outside on the line, so I always tumble dry.

I sometimes switch to the yellow fabric softener for a short period, then go back to the blue, as I do find you can get used to the same smell, and not notice the freshness as much.

I use the blue bold, lenor scent boosters, (mainly the blue ones) and blue lenor. My clothes always, always smell amazing. People will complement me on it…

i also use lenor dryer cheats, and my house smells nice too. I’m obsessed with smells, everything has to smell nice. I’ve learnt to hold my breath for a long time if someone or something doesn’t smell nice. 🙃

Timinfuckingruislip · 02/08/2024 12:26

I think it’s more that you go “nose-blind” to the same stuff after a while.
