I have metal washing-up drainage rack. It was quite expensive from Laura Ashley 😬
But its gone all rusty and looks like absolute shit (see images)

I'm not that keen on the Wham type of ones like this.
I'd rather get something a bit more stylish (if a washing-up drainer can be stylish).
But I don't really like these kind of two-tiered monstrosities. And they tend to be grey and black coloured which I hate.
And the sleek Joseph and Joseph ones have that horrible drip tray which turns my stomach.

I just can't bloody find what I'm looking for - a nice-looking one, not plastic, not black/grey, no drip tray with a cutlery part that cutlery can actually stand up in.

Please show me your washing-up drainers and give me some inspiration!

Le Creuset utensil jars are pretty business like and you can get them in TK Maxx. In fact TK Maxx are great for any kitchenware IMO.

I've got a y shaped Joseph Joseph one. It's really good and easy to clean. Holds sooo many plates!!

Agree I've got 2 purple ones side by side. One isn't enough! Also from TK Maxx.

Those Joseph Joseph drainers are the absolute worst. You only have to brush against them and all the bits start shifting around and the spout falls off. And the scum that forms in the spout thing is vile.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone have a good option for a situation where a Belfast sink is higher than the worktop around it? (see image). Is that even a Belfast sink? I'm not sure what the name is. But that's the situation I have so every drainer I try (including two different JJ models) just run back on themselves.

Edited

We ordered one of these custom made to our dimensions, off an Etsy seller - it's genius! Our drainer sits on top.

I've had a metal one, from IKEA, and it's still going strong after 25 years! No rust.

Madcats · 20/02/2024 13:55

I have one of those large stainless steel ones from Simple Human; it is huge!

Actually, it is our second as the first one started to show flecks of rust within warranty and they replaced it for free. I bought the first in 2011.

It is good for (wine) glasses and expensive cooking knives.

I lob the bits in the dishwasher from time to time.

I happened to have The Range website open, so I looked on there for dish draining racks and they have a positive cornucopia of the things. There must be about 50 different ones to choose from.

I took this photo for the lovely people on this thread (and will be ordering a collapsible draining rack this weekend 😂)

I'm not photographing mine. Blush

Slight tangent but I find a plate rack that's intended for washing up is perfect for storing my saucepan lids in the cupboard.

RosyappleA · 29/02/2024 14:08

I have the one you have as I like the colour but it only lasts two years.
Stainless steel options above do the trick. Even a tesco cheap steel one i had lasted years.
Hate the plastic ones the limescale build up is grim.

RosyappleA · 29/02/2024 14:14

Cheaper steel option

Glonty · 06/03/2024 07:05

17 years and ours hasn't rusted.....its like this.

Also, are people not using it on the draining board? Why does anyone need a drip catcher tray underneath?

I gave up on them for all the reasons mentioned. I’ve been using a (can’t remember proper name) square of absorbent material made to replace the traditional draining rack. I have 2 for when 1 is in the wash.

This is what I do. I’ve had all sorts of drainers including the two tier one and end up hating them all. I now just use a tea towel on the draining board. I’ve got a dishwasher but there’s always something that still needs to drain. Tea towels just gets replaced and washed.

cazcaz2 · 24/03/2024 13:38

All ones except plastic ones start to rust after a while...i have tried loads over the years so i know this is true...even those marked 'stainless steel' i'm afraid.I currently have a joseph joseph plastic one with a drainer. From Lakeland.works well enough.

Blackcats7 · 25/03/2024 17:53

In my experience they all go rusty so I have just bought a drying mat to use instead from ulster weavers. Bonus (for me anyway) is that is a cat design.

I have this << https://www.johnlewis.com/joseph-joseph-flip-up-dish-rack/p3855119?sppc=2dxxmixedhomeeBAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gadsource=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImrmwh66QhQMVJplQBh11-QBFEAQYBiABEgKiaaDBwE&gclsrc=aw.DS folding rack>> which drains well into the sink, gets a rub with a tea towel and goes in the under sink cupboard with the flattenable washing up bowl.

I’ve de-lurked to comment so I can save this thread to come back to. So much useful information, thanks to all who posted.
