Flying into February. Flylady support and chat thread

Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight in the UK

@Searchingforsnow hope your head feels better soon. It’s nice when the older ones join in isn’t it. When we had our board game marathon the other day my 16 year old joined in for a few which was lovely

@HazelNotHungryLC shame about the mattress but at least it’s easily rectified. I think it’s really hard to choose a mattress without actually sleeping on it. We’ve made a couple of mistakes over the years.

@CabbageBearGoat good luck ttc, I’m actually a bit jealous even though I don’t want any more children, I just love babies!

Afternoon wins:
🎉 LOL
🎉 Emptied util bin
🎉 Removed conservatory window netting
🎉 Put up ensuite mirror
🎉 Cleaned ensuite loo, sink
🎉 Restocked all loo rolls
🎉 Ordered IKEA wardrobe! Siezed a moment. And I procrastinated so long it had reduced in price
🌱 Pruned cherry tree
🌱 Moved daffodil pots to the end of path

CabbageBearGoat · 19/02/2024 18:56

Thanks @TheMainCharacter! Maybe there'll be a real fly baby later in the year if this works out 😂

brightpompoms · 19/02/2024 19:57

@TheMainCharacter I've made a diy nit defence spray today with tea tree and peppermint oil with water. I'll let you know if it works.

✅ dehydrated a batch of spring onions and a batch of mushrooms.
✅ took baby poms to dr with a perforated eardrum.
✅ 2 lols
✅ picked up Vinted parcels and prescription

Searchingforsnow · 19/02/2024 20:15

Tada
🎉 15 mins on bedroom, chucked a few things away (dd2 commented how clear the top of the set of drawers were - proof I need to get on top of things when even my 7 year old notices a change 🙈)
🎉 doctors with dd1
🎉 tea
🎉 after dinner clear up
🎉 downstairs hoovered
🎉 school bags packed for tomorrow
🎉 LOL hung up
🎉 dry clothes folded and put into rooms (haven't put away though 🙈)
🎉 dd2 showered
🎉 showered , face washed , moisturised
🎉 ordered da another pair of school shoes ! This'll be his 3rd pair this year !

I will need to do a quick tidy before going to bed but I'm going to read my book with a slice of chocolate cake first !

How's your dad doing @TheMainCharacter?

A money bonus to procrastination @CabbageBearGoat !

@brightpompoms the spray sounds like a great idea ! Ouchiness with the perforated
ear drum , sounds painful ! Can the doctor do anything to help ?

brightpompoms · 19/02/2024 20:42

@Searchingforsnow antibiotics for them. I don't know if anyone here has seen someone whilst their eardrum perforates but I've never seen anything like it. She was writhing round in agony, trying to be sick and couldn't speak to say where the pain was although it became obvious it was their ear. Absolutely inconsolable for 3 hours then went to sleep. Completely right as rain after that.

TheMainCharacter · 19/02/2024 20:55

Oh shit @brightpompoms you've just reminded me I haven’t picked up my parcel!! Luckily evri so should still be there if I go tomorrow. Let me know how the spray is too please! Dd1 used to have an Afro conditioning leave in spray that had tea tree in and she only had head lice once (and it was just one louse and a few eggs) so maybe it does work.

@Searchingforsnow he’s ok but they’ve stopped talking about him being discharged for the time being and he has to have someone with him permanently because he doesn’t know where he is and keeps trying to get up and then falls. He keeps thinking he’s either at work or on holiday and that he has somewhere he needs to be. His speech has deteriorated a lot again and I struggle to understand much now.

@CabbageBearGoat that definitely sounds like a procrastination win!

Just checking in after a busy week and then a lovely relaxing weekend away. We got back today and I haven’t managed the home bleurgh, but I was off on Friday so did a mini one before we headed off. It’s half term this week for us although I’m working 3 days.

I have some TaDas from last week and today:
⭐️ sorted half term childcare and paid for holiday club
⭐️battled the ironing pile and won
⭐️various bits of ballet admin for DD1
⭐️ cleaned the bathroom thoroughly
⭐️dusted and hoovered most of the house
⭐️emptied bins
⭐️unpacked the car as soon as we got home today
⭐️2 LOLs
⭐️unpacked half of the bags
⭐️packed work and nursery bags ready for tomorrow
⭐️ shined sink

Sorry to hear about DD’s diagnosis Hazel, but glad she has an answer. Hope she starts feeling better soon.

Hi That! Long time no see.

That sounds hard regarding your dad Character 💐

Poor baby Pom Pompoms. Sounds awful.

My DD is also well on her way to needing her third pair of school shoes too Snow, although the second pair were cheap asda ones which I knew wouldn’t last. I have a pair ready in the next size that I bought in the start rite sale, but not sure they’ll fit yet.

Good luck with TTC Cabbage. Another thread baby would be lovely.

Well done on getting your decluttered things straight out ED. That’s where I struggle!

TheMainCharacter · 20/02/2024 07:51

Tuesday is plan and play

Today’s mission is to spend 15 minutes decluttering the top shelf of your closet. Or if you can’t get to it, declutter whatever is in your way instead. UK wardrobes are generally not as awesome as US closets so if you don’t have a top shelf then choose another area instead.

Today’s baby step is to include laundry in your morning and evening routines

🎉 washed, dressed , hair, makeup
🎉15 mins ironing (the pile is shrinking)
🎉 10 mins folding dry clothes and putting away
🎉 cooked breakfast
🎉 tidied kitchen whilst breakfast cooking
🎉 drank bottle of water (around 500ml)

Currently enjoying breakfast and my morning coffee 🙂

We had our half term last week @Upsadiddles , enjoy ! You're organised with shoes ! And with the car unpacking !! I've ordered ds the same size , hoping that they fit because he seems to have grown overnight !

@TheMainCharacter that sounds really tough to deal with💐 how are you ?

@brightpompoms that sounds horrendous! Poor baby poms !!

HazelNotHungryLC · 20/02/2024 18:00

character that sounds hard to deal with re dad.
Up well done for being on top of unpacking. It makes a huge difference doesn't it?
pompoms how is baby poms doing? My DD had troubles with her ears growing up, almost seemed constant, it's so hard to watch them be in so much pain 😢
searching isn't it crazy how much difference just 15 minutes decluttering/ clearing makes?

I haven't really had much for ta das the last few days as I've been lazy. I'm drawing a line under them and starting fresh again today.

Ta Das: (11am)
☕️ cooked DH his breakfast
☕️ hair, makeup & dressed
☕️ stripped my bed and washed our sheets (currently in the dryer)
☕️ 2nd LOL in the washer
☕️ annual checkup
☕️ airing out the house
☕️ defrosting chicken for dinner tonight

Searchingforsnow · 20/02/2024 19:13

@HazelNotHungryLC it's reminding myself how much I can get done in such a short time ! Sometimes tasks feel so big and overwhelming that I just don't start them! What are you planning to make for dinner ?

Tada
🎉 browned mince for spag Bol
🎉 LOL
🎉 breakfast pots
🎉 school run
🎉 work
🎉 school run
🎉 finished cooking spag Bol
🎉 made some 'energy bars' and popped them in the fridge to set
🎉 ate tea
🎉 dd2 ready and taken to gymnastics

Currently sat at gymnastics until around 830, I have some marking to do, cross stitch and my book to read whilst I'm here . I've got lots to do when I get home :

😴 dd2 washed and bedtime routine
😴 lunch boxes and water bottles emptied and washed
😴 clean kitchen
😴 chop up energy bars
😴 LOL in dryer

Tuesdays are such a busy day , I keep trying to think of anything that I can do to make it easier but there isn't much I can tweak . Just got to power through 💪

HazelNotHungryLC · 20/02/2024 20:16

searching I'm going to make chicken fajitas (I'll have it in a bowl though, no tortillas for me).
It's hard when there's a busy day in the week and nothing you can do about it.

Ta Das:
🧺 wiped ceiling fan in master bedroom
🧺 wiped bedside tables down
🧺 damp dusted in living room
🧺 vacuumed main floor in house
🧺 sprayed oven with oven cleaner
🧺 cooked lunch (omelettes) for DH & I
🧺 started remaking the bed

brightpompoms · 20/02/2024 21:34

Good morning ☕️

Hardly any flying done on the kids club days so I'll be hoping to catch up with the tidying and laundry putting away tonight . Dd2 is having a friend over to play so I think they'll be having lots of fun together whilst I catch up and I've bought some pizzas so it's an easy tea!

I hope the care home viewing goes ok today @TheMainCharacter 💐
