Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you. I am in the US, 7 hours behind the UK, so I'll do my best.

ED sounds like you have a lot on your plate at the moment. Hope you find some time for you as well

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 30/01/2024 12:48

Can't believe we're at the end of January already. I need to be more productive with the rest of the year, for sure.

Backs are a nuisanceHazel, hope the massage improves things

Ta-da's

🎄Morning routine
🎄Cleared out the fridge
🎄Extra LOL
🎄Weekly planner

HazelNotHungryLC · 30/01/2024 14:22

Thank you for volunteering character 😊 no need to worry about doing all the routines. I'm not sure if any of us do all of them!

Thank you Ditzy I hope so too 🤞
I also need to get more done around the house. While I'm home today I do need to focus on the living room (as well as general home bleugh for me), although there are other areas of the house that are still needing to be sorted out.

Thank you for taking on the thread @TheMainCharacter don't worry if it is a bit haphazard, life does get in the way sometimes. The main thing to remember is to use links and paraphrase anything you describe from Flylady otherwise there is a possible copyright issue if you quote directly.

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 30/01/2024 17:43

More ta-da's:

🎄Decluttered

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day.
Wednesday's mission is to place something pretty in the living room, like flowers. Sometimes relocating something from a different room and change the whole look.
It's the last day in the living room, make it somewhere you would like to spend time.

Baby step #31: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-31/
I do NOT recommend this baby step. She wants you to sign up for her emails, but you will get multiple every.single.day. I do, however, recommend you download the flylady app and customise it to suit your schedule and home.

🍒👋 to everyone!

Even though things have got increasingly stressful, I've tried to keep my head above water. The very basic routines are becoming automatic, leaving headspace for the more important stuff. I will try to be more active on the February thread.

ProfessorplumBilliardroomCandlestick · 31/01/2024 10:02

I will continue to be sporadically present in the February thread. I've found this one super helpful. I'm not where I'd like to be with a housework routine but I've done more this month than I would have without you lovely people and the tadahs and the app. Please assume I am always skulking (when skulking is required).

I've not many cleaning tadahs, but yesterday I managed to do some baking and a load of washing up, which is huge for me. Planning to ice them now they'll have cooled down completely. I've done a few habitual five minute declutters over the past few days too, which is a big mindset shift I've had since starting this fly lady lark, so I'm thrilled and looking forward to seeing where I finish in February.

February thread Here ready for tomorrow.

@HazelNotHungryLC I hope you don’t mind I copied and pasted your intro to the thread.

Sounds like lots of people have busy Februarys coming up, I hope I’m not just talking to myself🤣

I have decided to ignore the mission for today as at the moment my focus is more on getting stuff OUT of rooms rather than adding anything else. Although it could be a good excuse to buy myself some flowers or a new plant 😆

Playing catch up a bit today as yesterday I worked then went to see my dad in hospital so not much housework occurred. Saying that I don’t seem to be getting very far today either!

Tadas
👰🏻‍♀️ morning routine
👰🏻‍♀️school run
👰🏻‍♀️wait for boiler service person
👰🏻‍♀️clean downstairs loo&sink
👰🏻‍♀️clean shower room
👰🏻‍♀️vacuum stairs and landing
👰🏻‍♀️vacuum sitting room
👰🏻‍♀️pick up wedding dress. Sadly not because we are getting married soon but because the dress shop rang to say they’d had it too long and couldn’t store it any longer (2020 covid cancelled wedding x 2, not rearranged since)

to do’s
mop hard floors
parcel return
dust hall and stairs
school run
dinner etc
yoga class

Oh I forgot a big To do
go to parents’ house to meet with OT who is doing a home assessment to see if my dad can go home

ProfessorplumBilliardroomCandlestick · 31/01/2024 14:28

Today's tadahs:

  • 1x LOL in the wash
  • Iced the cakes
  • 5 minute tidy in the utility
  • 5 minute tidy in the kitchen
  • 5 minute tidy in study
  • Vacuumed lounge
  • Cleared kallax again
  • Put away everything in the kitchen (clear floor again! Woohoo!)

To do:

  • Clear inside of coffee table
  • Washing up probably x2 by the look of it
  • Relocate everything in the lounge that I put into "helpful stacks" earlier
HazelNotHungryLC · 31/01/2024 15:59

character I do not mind at all! Thank you again for taking over the February thread. Do you have any plans for your wedding yet?

Scourgify sometimes just doing the basics is good and better than doing nothing! Even the days when everybody fed, no one dead is a success!

Professor I'm glad to hear flylady has helped you do more than you would have normally!

I'm at work today but I did get dinner in the slow cooker before I left this morning 😇

Fingers crossed for your dad's return Character

It's nothing exciting Hazel I'm going to be doing a full on spring clean, rearrange furniture and general huge tidy up. I won't get it done if I spend my days scrolling online that's all. Instagram is my biggest time drain but I'm going to try to try to stay off all social media in the interests of productivity

Habits becoming ingrained is a big positive Scourgify

Glad your home is slowly improving Professor

After a lazy start to the day, this evening's focus is going to be exercise

cosypompoms · 31/01/2024 16:44

Sorry I've been awol. I have been flying but completely tied up with governor stuff and finding a new head teacher.

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 31/01/2024 16:58

Is it the governors who interview for that Pompoms? I've never given any thought to how head teachers get their jobs before, but someone must be interviewing them! You've taken on the role at a busy time it seems. Hope you're not finding it too stressful
