Welcome to this long running thread, a lot of posters have been here a long time but all newbies and returners are very welcome, do join us!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - there are too many of them.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones in the house that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! You may need to adjust the zones to suit your house.

Habit of the month of October is paper clutter http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (which can be anything you make it, night in, night with friends, actual dates are not always going to happen)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit - again whatever you make of it, but it is time just for you.

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I will try and update the links every day, but they do update automatically on the website so you can just click on the ones in this post.

Apparently the app is very useful too, I am going to try that this month, I know some are already using it.

Sing it's good that you have an actual non working day, it is needed so you can recover and reset from your week. Down time is definitely needed!
To answer your question, we try really hard to have a worthwhile weekend, although sometimes that doesn't pan out. We were in the habit of having a movie night/ evening on Sundays, and still do sometimes. We usually get the popcorn going. I'm thinking we'll have to re-watch all of the Harry Potter movies again, we do have them all so easy to do!

SingToTheSky · 15/10/2023 22:43

Sunday
🪑printed some finance stuff for college fund thingy
🪑ordered some presents (mostly for Cagletini’s birthday) and a few other bits
🪑put clothes away
🪑gathered some rubbish in my room
🪑uni work
🪑booked therapy session
🪑emailed DS’ English teacher as DS is still not better and won’t be able to manage tomorrow’s lesson
🪑tidied desk

HauntingHazel · 16/10/2023 03:40

Ta Das:
💀 LOLs x5 (sheets, blankets, towels etc)
💀 vacuumed most of the house (didn't go into the rooms under construction)
💀 went out for a walk as a family, with the dogs, by the river. Was lovely 😍
💀 picked up dinner on the way home
💀 watched Harry Potter
💀 made myself a couple cups of chamomile tea with honey as I'm starting to feel like I'm developing the cold DS had, DH is also getting sick 😫

I just need to make myself a lunch for tomorrow and get my clothes out, take a shower, then bed! Oh, I must not forget to take some cold meds before bed 🤒

EfficientlyDecluttering · 16/10/2023 07:36

Morning! Properly frosty here today, brrr.

We are moving into Zone 3, bathroom and one other room.

The Sneak Peek for the week with all the missions is here for those that like to plan ahead http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php

Today’s flight plan is here and the mission is to chuck out any old shampoos etc which you don’t use or are empty, so that’s a good decluttering one.

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

I’m off to work in a minute so any Flying will have to be this evening.

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 16/10/2023 08:06

Morning all! Definitely back on my head here today.

@SingToTheSky I find the same thing - I'm self-employed from home, and therefore don't have defined temporal or physical space for my job. Even at my desk, it's easy for someone to shout "Mum!" or to need to answer the door / respond to the dog / deal with a tradesman DH has booked 🙄 etc, so there are no boundaries and work / house stuff gets all jumbled up like marble cake. Then I hit my stride with something workish at about 5pm, have to stop to cook at 6 and daren't got back to it afterwards as it floats roubd my head all night and I end up dreaming about chasing through archives looking for something. I don't have an answer! Saturday is a dot day as we recover then Sunday is for sports etc on the TV for DH and the boys, and I plan things, wash things, cook a roast dinner and start it all again for another week.

@HauntingHazel sorry you are all coming down with something, hope the chamomile tea helped! I am in awe of how you are keeping everything going with half a house under construction.

@HouseorHome just nailing the perpetuals on busy days is enough! I am struggling atm with the change in washing since DD went to Uni - we don't need to wash every day anymore, and there's only one or two white washes a week, which makes most of my tops and pants being in that wash a bit complicated. Very different from the days of four school shirts a day needing doing! (I was going to say "going into the white basket", but then I remembered the big DSs and their floordrobe... 🤣).

Right. Po3 to get going.
🛀 Wash, dress, face, hair, shoes
🥐 Breakfast, meds, vitamins
🐕 Houng peramble.

SingToTheSky · 16/10/2023 08:57

Tired. Cold. Ugh.

po3.1
❗️Print stuff for Cagletini
❗️Shower
❗️Log on for staff meeting at 9.30

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/10/2023 10:12

Personally i am loving the cold. I would rather like to have the windows thrown open to enjoy the cold fresh air, but the other people in the house are not of the same mind set and i am in no mood to have to deal with that discussion.

ta da
pick up relevant cards
drop ds at college
food shop
1st load through machine and hung up
2nd load in the machine
people fed breakfast.

Kitchen is out of control again so i need to tackle that today. Also need to get a new battery for my car key. There will be food prep later too.

JewelleryCat · 17/10/2023 00:03

Not done much today as I wanted and needed a day off so all I’ve done is swept the kitchen floor and wiped surfaces down

DomesticElf · 17/10/2023 01:23

Well, it has been viruses galore at ours. Just as toddler recovered, I came down with whatever he had, and crikey, I haven't felt this bad in a while. Thankfully it only lasted a few days for me. Once back in the land of living, I managed to straighten up the house over the weekend and even degreased the extractor fan in the kitchen. However, hello curveball! Now baby is down the same virus, so I'm on vomit catching duty as well as cuddles and boobs.

YesTaDas:
🚣Home bleugh done. Bins out, hoovered properly, dusting.
🚣Bleached both bathrooms
🚣Lolx1 is out to dry. Didn't manage to fold and put away previous load, but heyho, it will get sorted when all of us recover.

Today planning to stay home on the sofa with baby while doing gazillion LOLs and throwing bleach at everything in sight, and normal nursery run of course.

HauntingHazel · 17/10/2023 04:01

cat taking a day off is perfectly reasonable! I hope you were able to enjoy yourself.
Elf sickness is awful! I hope babyelf is better soon 💐
balloon sometimes I question my sanity and wonder why we are still in the house during this, but I couldn't see us being happy anywhere else!

It's still been pretty warm here this week, unusually so for this time of year. I'm still fighting my cold though. DS has recovered from his, yet DH is suffering and not doing anything to help himself! Why do men do this??

Ta Das:
🕷 full day of work
🕸 vacuumed once I got home, workmen came and made a mess, especially in the bathroom 🙄 not that kind of mess though 😂 they were installing the fan in there so it got dusty. Everywhere.
🕷 washed towels, again. See above 🙄
🕸 wiped bathroom down after vacuuming it, including vacuuming the walls. Yes, it made that much of a mess!
🕷 cooked dinner (soup)
🕸 made myself some cups of chamomile tea and honey throughout the day

The painter still hasn't shown up 😪 the project manager is really pissed off at him, although he did lose a family member a couple of weeks ago. It just means our living space in the basement is unusable as well, so we only have use of half our house right now 😱
<sigh> I'm not even sure if anyone will be showing up tomorrow while I'm home. I hate lack of communication!

EfficientlyDecluttering · 17/10/2023 07:37

Quick link dump, back later.

Mission - shine your tub and shower and get your guest bed guest-ready. We don’t have a guest bed so that is easy for us. BL

OP posts:
cosypompoms · 17/10/2023 19:05

I'm in the sick bay as have eaten something dodgy. No flying here. I'm taking the week off from it all.

I did a toddler group party and unexpectedly 60 people turned up instead of our normal 28. Thank god I'm sick today and not yesterday!

HauntingHazel · 17/10/2023 21:06

pompoms I hope you feel better soon 💐
ED we're staying in our guest bedroom right now, but I cleaned the ceiling fan on Sunday 😇

Ta Das:
🦇 bleached bathroom
👻 admin & phone calls (multiple)
🦇 handwashed dishes
👻 wiped countertops
🦇 washed blankets from couches
👻 dusted living room
🦇 located neighbour's package to its rightful owner (was dropped on our doorstep instead of theirs)

EfficientlyDecluttering · 17/10/2023 23:02

Tada!

Not much as I went out straight from work and got back at 9.30. But I have put all my summer dresses and skirts away for the winter, had a quick sort out of my yarn stash (both are now under our bed) and chucked out a small pile of papers for recycling.

OP posts:
EfficientlyDecluttering · 17/10/2023 23:08

@cosypompoms hope you feel better soon, definitely cut out the Flying till then, all fed, no one dead is all that's required when there's a poorly Fledgling. @JewelleryCat same for you if things are tricky ATM.

Glad you are feeling better @DomesticElf

Hope some of the tradespeople turn up tomorrow @HauntingHazel

@HillsBesideTheSea hope you managed to salvage the kitchen

OP posts:
DomesticElf · 18/10/2023 04:14

Hazel fair play to you for keeping your sanity through it all and still managing to keep the household running. It will all feel a lot less stressful once life returns to normality with no tradesperson in sight.
Pompoms feel better, lovely. Kids party for 60 people 😱 you are braver than me! I'm organising a small one for 16 and it's giving me an ulcer.

YesTaDas:
⏲️Food cooked and served
⏲️Lol and out to dry
⏲️Clean laundry folded and put away
⏲️Bathrooms look ok as have been bleached repeatedly over past week. Bathroom mats have been washed.

Got our professional photos back, and ugh, I really don't like how I look. I'm slowly losing weight, but man, my self esteem is in the boots and will probably remain there until I return to my normal size.

DomesticElf · 18/10/2023 04:19

ED I always admire people who properly organise their wardrobe and rotate things by season. All my clothes stay in rather go in storage, as I am never on it enough to do the seasonal rotation. I've really cut down on the amount of clothes I own (don't wear most of them anyway..), but seasonal rotation would make the wardrobes look a whole lot nicer.

HauntingHazel · 18/10/2023 04:53

Elf I know that feeling too well, please don't be hard on yourself, it hasn't been that long since you've had a baby!
ED I also fantasize about rotating my wardrobe or for each season, I did it once, but not since then 🙄

We did have people show up today, mainly the painter 🥳 he's due to be back every day this week.
Tomorrow the ceiling guys are to come sand the ceilings, to finish the job, ready for painting.

Ta Das:
🐈‍⬛ got my hair cut and coloured
🐈‍⬛ went grocery shopping

I feel like death warmed up 🤒 I'll see how I feel in the morning, but I'm pretty sure I'll be calling in sick tomorrow. I have a full blown cold and feel miserable 😫

EfficientlyDecluttering · 18/10/2023 07:46

Morning all, the wardrobe rotation is really out of necessity, our bedroom is tiny and not much space in wardrobe/drawers, nor in hall storage. I have always put away jumpers with the hats, glove, thick coats, scarves, boots etc in spring and got them out again in winter, with shorts, dresses etc going away in autumn. I used to do it for the DCs too but they seem to live in more or less the same stuff all year round now they are teenagers.

Today’s mission is to wash bathroom rugs, shower curtains etc and to de-cobweb your guest bedroom. I do the bathmat with the towels every week and no other rugs, but our shower curtain could do with a wash, I usually put it in on its own with no detergent and just some soda crystals on hot to give the machine a clean out too.

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
Might do a go fund me for the convalescent home for burnt out Fly ladies 😁
I still feel rough, and one of my legs has decided to stop working properly, I'm walking like the hunchback of Notre Dame.
But at last I've got some TaDas, my spare room has been tidied, bedding washed, and everything that was dumped in there put where it belongs.
Ditto my bedroom.
I've dug out my winter duvet, refreshed my winter bedding, and that will go on when I get back from my trip next week as I always leave my mattress to air while I'm away.
I've vacuumed everything bar the stairs.
Started a new charity bag for clothes.
I don't rotate my clothes, other than my shorts I just layer up in the winter.
Today's todo is LOLs, anything else is a bonus.

Scourgify · 18/10/2023 09:49

i've been cracking on with paperwork and office stuff. Moved an old coffee table into living-room to sort out piles. Junk mail etc went into recycling. Now things suddenly seem much more manageable.

Trying to make my bedroom less of a junk room. I emptied three storage tubs in here by putting away an old stash-and-dash. Tackling chest of drawers revealed a shoebox of earbuds and cables to sort through. Will put them on the shelf in the front room along with the rest of the homeless electronics.

Cleared out expired medicines from bedroom. Unearthed vitamins to put in kitchen and actually take them.

Today is more of the same. Every so often I stumble upon something that had become a blind spot in the general domestic chaos scenery. It feels a bit weird, almost uncomfortable, until I deal with it.

HauntingHazel · 18/10/2023 14:28

Well, I'm home sick 🤧🤒 I'm not sure how much rest will happen though with the workmen coming in and out though 😞

Cherry you've done a lot! I hope you feel better soon 💐
ED I probably should wash my shower curtain again will all the dust, but I just did it! I don't think I'll be up to it today though either.
Scourgify isn't it strange how we become blind to things out of place, until one day we notice them?
At the moment we have so much out of place that is overwhelming if I dwell on it, there's nothing I can do about it for the time being.

I do want to be mindful of everything going back though, I just need DH to be on board with decluttering and sorting as well.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/10/2023 15:34

Hope all the poorly people feel better soon and can get some rest.

HauntingHazel · 19/10/2023 04:44

I did absolutely nothing today! I made multiple cups of chamomile tea, added way too much honey, but I'm feeling a lot better tonight, especially after my hot steamy shower.
Hopefully I'll feel well enough to go to work tomorrow.

As far as the house goes, roofers are due to arrive at the house at 8am tomorrow (Thursday). Painter was supposed to come today, but didn't. Other little things still need to get done and I'm just ready for this all to be over!

hills that's a lot of ta das!
