So many videos on social media showing how amazing it is for cleaning/laundry etc - but I can’t find it anywhere? Where do you get it from???

PPs who are saying to buy distilled vinegar - that has malt in it - I thought the white vinegar you use for cleaning didn’t contain malt??

Malt vinegar - brown - goes on chips.
Distilled vinegar - clear, like water - cleaning.

They are interchangeable but you don't really want to use a brown liquid for cleaning as it might stain. They are sold next to each other in supermarkets.

Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrison's.

Mochudubh · 28/08/2023 18:21

If you have, or know someone who has, a Costco membership, they sell it by the gallon.

VanillaImpulse · 02/09/2023 23:18

I've been using it instead of fabric conditioner as I've seen recommended but my clothes stink of vinegar! Is this to be expected?!

goingtotown · 03/09/2023 23:58

Home Bargains.

Clueless2000 · 03/09/2023 23:59

Oh no @VanillaImpulse ! I was thinking of using it for that - loads of Mrs Hinch-types recommend it - but definitely don’t want clothes smelling like a chip shop!!!

eBay sell 5L huge thing , like commercial cleaning size

EBearhug · 04/09/2023 00:35

Sainsbury’s.

But it might be only big Sainsbury’s, though I can't remember when I last went into the small one in town.

I tried adding essential oil and that helped a bit. It seems that some brands smell more than others. Sainsbury's one seems really strong but Lidl not so much. Maybe just me!

FeigningConcern · 04/09/2023 01:30

Tescos. But all the supermarkets sell it.

It's called Distilled Vinegar though which maybe what's causing the confusion?

YourWinter · 04/09/2023 01:34

Tesco, 29p for 500ml, bottom shelf with the other vinegars. Or in a cheap spray bottle from Savers or Home Bargains.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 04/09/2023 02:08

It's just clear ordinary cheap vinegar, usually beside tomato sauce etc.

marshmallowfinder · 04/09/2023 02:21

They're always wittering on about baking soda to mix with it, too. Well is that baking powder or bicarbonate of soda? 🙄

givemeasunnyday · 04/09/2023 02:44

Well I don't live in the UK but every supermarket here sells it, and I imagine they do in the UK also. It really should be easy to find.

It's bicarbonate of soda.

LovePoppy · 04/09/2023 03:10

I’m shocked this isn’t a common thing in the UK.

I usually always have two gallons of vinegar in my house (usually because I forget I bought a spare, so buy another lol)

Proper Job

lljkk · 04/09/2023 03:58

I bought a bottle in Sainsburys for 40p the other day. Lidl usually sells it for similar price, too.

Redlarge · 04/09/2023 04:01

I get 5 litre bottles from amazon

Don't buy the food grade stuff. £1 for trigger bottle is not good value. I guess she means Polish.

It's bicarb BUT do not do the thing often recommended of mixing it with vinegar because it achieves nothing.

Yes, it foams up like mad. This is because the bicarb is alkaline and the vinegar is acidic and it causes a reaction.

The result of this reaction, however, is that the acid and the alkali neutralise each other. You have now wasted your money on two cleaning products that now no longer have any power to clean anything.

Precipice · 08/10/2023 18:29

If malt vinegar would technically do but for the colour, does this mean white wine vinegar would also do? I have already some of that but I don't think I will be using it for cooking again.
