Best washing products for amazing smelling clothes

Please can you recommend your best combo's for amazing smelling washing?

I feel like my clothes don't smell clean after being washed 😭

I keep my washing machine very clean, it has a drum clean cycle which i do about once every 2 weeks with other cleaning in between if needed (it's a washer dryer) but I feel like my clothes don't smell clean once dried. They smell lovely when they first come out of the wash but once they've finished drying on the clothes horse I feel like they either smell musky or like a weird sour smell. I've tried new products but nothing seems to work and I feel it will only get worse once the autumn and winter months come around 😩

I used Smol pods for a while. I gave up as I couldn’t get the delivery dates/sizes to match up with our washing, but loads of people commented on how lovely our clothes smelled, while we were using them

Thank you 😊 I've just tried the free trial so I'll see how I get on. What issues did you have, running out before a new box came?

Yes, I’m in a hard water area so had to use two pods, I’d run out and end up having to buy Persil at the shops etc, before the new ones got delivered.

Probably an easy fix if you’re organised enough and don’t have extra grubby toddlers!

I use fairy powder & conditioner as I love the smell. It has to be powder as its better for the machine & smells so much better.

DCs friends can always tell when a left jumper at school is one of theirs as it smells like them!

Ahh maybe that's where I'm going wrong as I've been using the gel (my machine has auto dosing so you can throw loads in and adjust how much you want for each load or set it to a default which it dispenses each time you put a load on) so it just seemed easier to use the gel! Detergent I was using a comfort one (purple but can't remember the name) and now I've got like a rose one I think. Smells so nice coming out but I feel like they stink by the time they're dry 😳

Antifungal rinse. Kills off stinky fungi.

Dry in the sunshine when possible.

You might find some ideas in this thread from a week or so ago 🫧🧺

Is it possible that there's too much stuff too close together on the drying rack? Or that the clothes lay in the machine for too long before they are dried?
I can smell this smell on the clothes of two people I know. And I know that there washing is squashed up on the line, or hanging around in the machine and not pegged out.
Just a thought.
Mine always smells lovely. Persil pods and comfort softener.

LondonLovie · 20/08/2023 12:49

Washing beads are amazing.

Possibly with the clothes horse but nothing is ever overlapping on anything. I've got a heated one (which I never plug in as that seemed to make them smell) but I think I might just buy two brand new normal ones so I've got more space. I'm normally pretty good at taking them out of the machine straight away but if I don't for whatever reason it would be a few hours max. I feel like it's also making my house smell musky which is not fun ☹️

Fairy non bio pods
Fairy conditioner
Fairy non bio in wash scent beads

The combination of all three makes my washing smell amazing

I don't bother with OTT floral scents like Ruby jasmine or whatever - the key is using the same family and scent of products

SophieHope7 · 20/08/2023 12:54

I used to use Ariel washing powder with Comfort Sunshine days fabric softener. Now we use Smol and they are amazing

Fleetheart · 20/08/2023 12:57

if you are always drying in the house get a dehumidifier. that will help them dry quicker and make sure there is no mustiness

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 20/08/2023 12:59

I've just used the Fairy beads, they smell so good. Whole house smells lovely.

Weather permitting I will always have them on the line as much as possible but with autumn approaching I will definitely look into this thank you 😊

Few hours lying in the machine will def make them smell esp coloured clothes for some reason

I've just had this problem with a load of towels - they smelled ok up to the point that they were used and then they smelled of damp dog 🤢 Rewashed them all with laundry disinfectant (that I always use anyway), hung outside - same thing. Just done them all for the third time but on a 60 degree wash and with a cup of vinegar in the dispenser drawer: BINGO. No more damp dog (I don't even have a dog by the way!)

Devilsmommy · 20/08/2023 13:19

Bold lavender and chamomile gel and lenor spring awakening FS. Clothes that have been in wardrobe for months still smell gorgeous 🥰

I always use vinegar with towels, tea towels & dish clothes. That sort of thing.
The vinegar keeps the machine clean and does a good job on softening towels.

I really don't know why we have this at our house, but DHs clothes always smell lovely, but my clothes and dc clothes never seem to smell...here's the rub, we use the same washing detergent, same fabric softener, same temperature....I can only conclude dh's natural scent enhances his clothing!

Nat6999 · 21/08/2023 02:18

I just use normal Daz washing powder & fairy fabric conditioner. My home always smells lovely when I have washed.

RantyAnty · 21/08/2023 02:23

What temperature and cycle are you washing them on?

White vinegar in the rinse helps.

I do a 30 degree load, my machine you can choose weather to use steam or not which i do and have it on a mixed cycle which is just shy of 2 hours x

It's personal isn't it?

I hate the smell of fabric conditioner and strong smelling laundry. Too synthetic
