Flying through August & the summer holidays with Flylady!

Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Habit of the month of August is Laundry

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (what's that again?? 🤔)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change).

As a side note, this is my first time leading this thread, please be patient with me if I miss something. We really are a friendly bunch!
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Oops, sorry hills Thursday is errand day 🤦‍♀️ I was in a hurry this morning. However, Tuesday is plan and play day. On Tuesdays that's when we're supposed to do our meal planning and plan any events, parties etc. Bit of a weird day of the week to do that for most people!

BloomingHazel · 24/08/2023 19:29

Sorry for lack of personals earlier!
hills you found blood?! 😱
I don't blame you for being fed up, I would be too!

Well done to your DS shannara you wasn't to know that he wasn't going to get a 5, we don't plan for our DC to have to retake classes! So I don't blame you for throwing out his school supplies

Cherry I have a new to us gas oven that will be installed, although I will have to scrub it to death as the previous owner of it clearly never cleaned it (it's not that old either, but absolutely disgusting). I'm not looking forward to it. ⭐️ for your DP for sorting the horses for you

I have placed my grocery pickup order for tonight. I really was not working honest 😳🤫
🤞 hopefully they have everything, the store looked pretty bare on Tuesday!

We are going out for dinner tonight for DHs birthday, then we have to pack the camper ready for tomorrow. We will be leaving right after work tomorrow night.

So, because I cannot guarantee I'll be around before Sunday night, I'll post the links tomorrow for the weekend

Yeah, cut my wrist moving furniture so i could clean underneath whilst playing hunt the missing thing. Yesterday i stubbed my toe and there was blood too. It has been a few days for stupid injuries...

better get back to my pot, i need to avoid flat sour.

partypompoms · 25/08/2023 07:44

@HillsBesideTheSea what is a flat sour??!!

All good here we've had some nice days out and I was wild and wreckless and bought an annual membership to one place as it's so lovely. It's 40 mins away which doesn't sound a lot but we used to be 10 mins away so it feels quite far now. But the kids love it there and it's huge so hopefully good value for the year.

I also bought a few kids dresses in the Asda sale. They had some really lovely things which didn't look like Asda at all iykwim. The kids desperately needed a few items so glad the sale was on but all in all I need to not spend any money for a while!

✅ lol on
✅ unpacked and washed up yesterdays picnic
✅ going to kids to make their beds now as it's part of their pocket money deal.

Have a Good Friday

HillsBesideTheSea · 25/08/2023 10:19

I have no idea how to describe what a flat sour is. It is one of those things that if you know you need to know, otherwise is a pitta to try to explain.
I think the best way is sometimes too much heat can make a thing taste weird and can be avoided by putting the contents in a place other than the pot so it cools without spoiling.

Last night i played the if you stay scuttling about the floor and stay away from my bed i cant be assed to deal with you giant spider. Although the wasp got watched until it got itself stuck in the light fitting and cooked itself to death before sleep was possible. I could have lied in if i had remembered to turn the alarm off.

partypompoms · 25/08/2023 18:40

Well I've never ever heard of it. Where abouts are you that it's a saying?

Someone said that they didn't know what a word meant to me the other day and I was gobsmacked. They are adamant it's a regional thing so I'm going y to try it out on you wise lot to see.

What does the word 'scram' mean? Or if you had been 'scrammed'?
Answers on a postcard.

Anyway in flying news....
✅ 2 lols
✅ cleaned and refilled the bird feeders
✅ cleaned the back door
✅ duolingo lesson
✅ started the ironing and hoping to finish tonight.

CherryogDog · 25/08/2023 20:41

@partypompoms we say skidaddle

DitzyDaffodils · 25/08/2023 22:16

Pompoms depends on context. "Scram" as an instruction means get lost. "Scrammed" as a description means scratched by a cat. Not sure I heard the latter until I moved here though

Cherry I know skidaddle too

I don't know what a flat sour is Hills but I kinda understand your description of it. I'm not much of a cook though, I'd probably understand it better if I was. Makes sense anyway that food has a sweet spot for cooking and too far either side of that it wouldn't taste so good

I love how language is different everywhere

BloomingHazel · 26/08/2023 02:42

Almost forgot links, I'm so sorry, I missed today (Friday) 🤦‍♀️
Saturday is family fun day.
Sunday is renew your spirit day.

She usually doesn't give missions for the weekend, but try to stick to your routines.

We're heading up camping again, so no service for a couple of days. DD surprised me and is joining us 🥳 but, ILs should be up there already, that's a surprise for DH for his birthday 🙂

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/08/2023 03:11

Flat sour is a regional thing.

English local slang i love whittering, grockle, and a fair few others i have picked up on my travels.

ta da
bought fabric for a wasp keeper outer screen for the windows

partypompoms · 26/08/2023 06:55

CherryogDog · 25/08/2023 20:41

@partypompoms we say skidaddle

I've heard of that but that's not the meaning I had in mind.

@DitzyDaffodils has it with being scrammed by a cat. A scram is when a cat scratches you. Has everyone here heard of this?

I've been up many times in the night with toddler and snoring husband and period so I've sent H downstairs with the kids.

EversoDetermined · 26/08/2023 07:18

Scram = skedaddle = get lost here, never heard it in connection with cats though.

From my neck of the woods - squinny.

CherryogDog · 26/08/2023 07:39

@EversoDetermined I'm guessing you're from around Pompey?

CherryogDog · 26/08/2023 07:41

@HillsBesideTheSea I thought flat sour was something to do with canning fruit?

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/08/2023 10:12

Yes that is the application i mean for flat sour but honestly so few people do that these days i didn't want to have to explain canning fruit.

more stupid injuries. <sigh> hyper hyper extended my knee yesterday and it is mad at me. Which is great because my day consists of walking up and down stairs and ladders.

I also need to check my ingredients list for getting some fig jam onto the shelves.

EversoDetermined · 26/08/2023 12:03

Yep!

partypompoms · 26/08/2023 20:14

✅ walked to library and did some errands in town. First time with no pram and both kids managed the walk there and back.

✅ lovely bath and story time at bed. Calm and fun...so much easier than when H is around.

✅ friend came round with a tonne of cucumbers so I'm going to pickle some slices which I've never done before.

SingToTheSky · 26/08/2023 20:49

Fell off the thread and haven’t kept up ta da lists! I had a flare up of fibro and gastritis at the same time so everything hurt. Had a few days in bed thankfully (mainly watching stand up comedy) and I feel pretty much ok now, managed a meet up with work friends and some of our kids yesterday and took DD1 out for lunch to celebrate her GCSE results today, she didn’t do as well as she’d hoped but she’s got into college so no disaster really!

We are making progress with her room now, and I’ve been helping DS organise his room now that we’ve partitioned it (with furniture - might get something to make more of a wall at some point), which has basically involved sorting clothes storage and cleaning Lego 🤣

I am totally behind on the thread but I wish you all well. Maybe September will be the month I get organised <hollow laugh> - much as I’m proud of what decluttering I’ve done this month it really does feel like a drop in the ocean, although I know it feels a lot worse right now because of all the decorating mayhem.

partypompoms · 26/08/2023 21:49

@SingToTheSky welcome back. I fell off the thread and someone here said just hang round to chat and don't worry about flying if it's too much right now.

Any decluttering is positive. One item a day is progress! I aim for one thing a day.

DitzyDaffodils · 27/08/2023 01:54

Ouch to that knee Hills 🦵 . Sometimes I wish I had spare parts🦿too. Wasp 🐝screen is a great idea

Happy camping 🏕️ Hazel, how lovely to have all the family there

Glad you feel better from the flare up Sing. You'll soon get back into it with the FlyLady 🧚 stuff. You don't want to push yourself so much you relapse.

I never heard of squinney ED, what does that mean?

Now I'm wondering if we're neighbours (well sort of, I know you don't live next door!) Pompoms 🤔

DitzyDaffodils · 27/08/2023 01:57

Today was a walk through the woods and feeding the ducks in the park. Was a nice afternoon. We had movie night this evening, Angela's Ashes. Decluttering is going well.

partypompoms · 27/08/2023 07:18

@DitzyDaffodils I don't think we have ducks in the park here. We have ducks on the river? I live in South Wales I'd that helps.

I've been up early after a whole night sleep. I feel like a new woman with just the human basics of a nights sleep. Both kids beds stripped and the washing is started. I've also steamed their mattresses after reading a MN thread about bedbugs has scared me.

CherryogDog · 27/08/2023 09:32

@SingToTheSky glad you're feeling a bit better, I'm a spoony too so understand.
@partypompoms I've occasionally thought about pickling or canning but I worry about poisoning myself 😁 but I'm going to try making tsatsiki this week.
💐 for everyone struggling with injuries, illness and tiredness.
We went to see a band last night, I don't drink but a late night out always leaves me feeling a bit hungover 🙃
I used to dance all night, always first out on the floor. I got up for one song and has palpitations afterwards 😅 so I may need to flylady my body into fitness if there is such a thing 😅

partypompoms · 27/08/2023 09:39

@CherryogDog I also have a dehydrator and I do worry about botulism but not enough to stop doing it!
