Flying through August & the summer holidays with Flylady!

BloomingHazel · 31/07/2023 23:54

Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Habit of the month of August is Laundry

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (what's that again?? 🤔)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change).

As a side note, this is my first time leading this thread, please be patient with me if I miss something. We really are a friendly bunch!
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Even more reason to copy/take pictures of any proof of income and bank statements. Being self employed should not be a golden ticket to avoid paying child support

OP posts:
DomesticElf · 20/08/2023 23:16

That congratulations on your imminent freedom! I know it feels a bit daunting with finding childcare and dealing with THATtwat living up to his name. You are strong, you will get through these issues, and once the dust settles you will be in a much better place.
Sing you sound very organised.
Hazel good luck with paperwork, hopefully the expectations are worse than reality.

I have to put a wee pause in my flying, as I might have overdone it a bit and ended up in a hospital with bleeding. Back home now, but I will be utilising telly as a babysitter for my toddler and putting my feet up for next few days. House will be a mess, and I have a friend coming over for coffee day after tomorrow.. I might have to warn her to expect a bit of mayhem.

BloomingHazel · 21/08/2023 02:15

Elf you certainly deserve rest and your feet up! Overdoing it is not okay. Time for DH to step up a bit and do some things around the house. A true friend wouldn't worry about the state of the house (and possibly start to clear up to help you out, not shame you) 💐☕️

Monday is the day for the home blessing (or home bleugh). Change bed sheets, empty bins, quick vacuum around, all in an hour of course 🙄

Missions: This week we are in the master bedroom (or the boudoir as some like to call it) today's mission is to spend 15 minutes taking anything out of your bedroom that doesn't go in there

Baby step:
She wants you to read her Q&A section on her website, as well as your morning and before bed routines.

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋

@DomesticElf sorry to hear that, hope you are currently sat with your feet up resting.
@THATissoooFETCH take care of yourself, even change for the better can be stressful 💐
I've not got much done lately, having too many mornings where I'm struggling to get going, but I'm staying on top of the basics like the LOLs (although I do have a pile to put away), washing pots and cleaning the bathrooms.
Today I've got some admin to sort, a few phone calls, and I'm planning an early night. Sorting my diary out the other day gave me a kick up the backside, I was supposed to have a follow up at the dentist in February, but I had to cancel my appointment for some reason and never booked a new appointment.
I also need to "book" DP to sort the horses out one morning this week, I still haven't used my Vax, and I want to use it really early so the carpets can dry. I'm far to tight to put the heating on 😁

SingToTheSky · 21/08/2023 22:45

Flying visit as last week burned me out big time

YesTaDa
🤷‍♀️bit of decluttering I think? Can’t really remember
🤷‍♀️put laundry away (there was a lot)

Ta Da
🖕booked cinema for Friday with colleagues/kids
🖕made contact with a couple of organisations who might collect stuff from our house
🖕helped a bit with building DS’ bed
🖕cleared epic amounts of cardboard and polystyrene from bed packaging
🖕DLMS. An extremely close call. Although the night is still young…

BloomingHazel · 22/08/2023 04:37

Take it easy Sing overdoing it is a real thing! It sounds like you're making good progress with decluttering though.
Cherry sometimes just doing the basics is just fine!

Saturday:
🐵 painted toes and fingernails
🐵 took DD & DS out to lunch (DD came to visit so DH could replace her brakes on her car)
🐵 took DD grocery shopping and stocked her up
🐵 harvested some rhubarb from the garden and made rhubarb & strawberry crumble (keto version)
🐵 smoked chicken & sautéed shrimp for dinner (to eat with salad), smoked potatoes for everybody else
🐵 played a card game with MIL & SIL

Sunday:
🦥 got paperwork sorted for the fire
🦥 lounged around for a while
🦥 went out for a drive to look at possible camping spots in a difference location that we've never been before

Monday:
🌻 work, crazy busy day in the end
🌻 took gift baskets to 2 neighbours as they both were home finally (as a thank you for the part they played in saving our house)
🌻 cleared out fridge
🌻 loaded DW
🌻 handwashed dishes
🌻 scrubbed stovetop
🌻 sat on the couch with a glass of wine 🍷

It's about bedtime, I'm trying to get to bed earlier, completely failed this weekend, but trying to do better overall 😴

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 22/08/2023 04:44

Tuesday is Plan and Play day.

Missions: This week we are in the master bedroom (or the boudoir as some like to call it) today's mission is to spend 15 minutes attacking your clothes pile. The one on the floor, chair or chest of drawers. Set the timer, grab some hangers or start folding. While doing this, don't put anything away you don't love, donate it!

Baby step:
She wants you to buy her control journal and office in a bag 🙄 at least from what I can tell!

Upsadiddles · 22/08/2023 09:00

Hi lovely fledglings! My flying has lapsed massively (not even sure I made the July thread, let alone this one!) but I really need to sort my life out, and I know just ladies to help me. I was looking at some photos from when DD1 was DD2’s age (4.5 years between them) and my house was so much cleaner and tidier! I’ve been slowly getting back on top of things the last week or so. Managed a proper home bleurgh at the weekend and I’ve done some bits and bobs of decluttering and organising. We’ve had poorly DC and been working quite a bit over the summer holidays, but we are now back to full health and me and DH have some individual
and joint annual leave coming up so we are planning a few days out. I am also not quite at the level of tearing my hair out and house in chaos that I was at at this point in last year’s summer holidays when I was on mat leave. So that’s a bonus.

Today’s tadas so far include 2 LOLs, a cleaning cycle on the DW, and packing DH off to work with a box for the charity shop, a bag for texturing recycling, and an embarrassing amount for the bottle bank (because we haven’t been for ages, not because we drink too much).

Congratulations on the new job Shannara, hope the first shift goes well.

Sorry things are a bit tough That, it’ll feel like there’s lots to sort and lots of change, but before you know it you’ll be settled and sorted and I have no doubt much happier.

Massive congratulations on the new arrival Elf, but sorry you’ve ended up back in hospital. Please make sure you rest, the flying will wait.

Sorry the house still isn’t sorted from
the fire Hazel, but sounds like you’re getting there.

Big waves to the rest of you.

Right, I’m off to get the DC and myself dressed, make the beds, s&s and work out where we are heading today. Have a good day everyone.

partypompoms · 22/08/2023 15:38

Popping by again to say not much flying happening. I did however scrub the bathroom from top to bottom on Sunday and dye my hair.

Other than that it's been summer holiday activities and of courses LOL's galore.

Hope everyone is ok.

BloomingHazel · 22/08/2023 15:55

Welcome back Up glad to hear everyone is feeling better, sickness is never good. It is a good thing you're in a better place than this time last year, hopefully it won't take much too tame it. It does sound like you have made headway already.

👋 pompoms enjoy the summer holidays, they'll be over before you know it!

DS went back to school yesterday, I tried to pick up his trombone from being deep cleaned on my lunch yesterday, they didn't have it back yet (they should have though!). I did get a loaner for him for today so we should be able to swap them out after school today. He's not happy with the loaner, but it's only for one day.

I'm currently waiting for the team to show up who will be cleaning the small appliances, although these do include the washer, dryer and fridge, so not really small this also means no LOLs yet 🙄
Must get going, there are things to do before they get here!

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 22/08/2023 20:44

Ta Das:
🌻 dropped DS off at school
🌻 emptied kitchen bin & cleaned it inside & out
🌻 rotated DW
🌻 dusted throughout the house
🌻 put out autumn decorations (I know I'm early, but they are some of my favourites and with the renovations I don't know when I will be able to decorate seasonally again 😪)
🌻 cleared out fridge & freezer when the team (ha! It was one guy) showed up
🌻 returned everything once he was done cleaning it
🌻 made my grocery shopping list (not very long today)
🌻 cleaned out the washer, used a toothbrush for the seal, it was so gross! It will get done more often for sure
🌻 stripped my bed and put the sheets in the washer
🌻 had lunch with DH

Still more to do before I go pick up DS, when we have other errands to run
I should be back later 🍒 👋

OP posts:
DomesticElf · 22/08/2023 21:33

Hazel that's a one busy day for you. Love the team consisting of one guy 😬
Up good to see you! Glad to read you are all better.
Pompoms I'd say scrubbing the bathroom counts as flying aplenty! Enjoy school holidays!

I'm pretty much on the mend, so hopefully will be getting to some sort of normality.

Ta das:
🥸X2 LOLs done, all dry laundry folded and put away
🥸Beds stripped, aired, and remade
🥸Kitchen clean up X2. DW rotation
🥸 Normal rubbish and recycling out to the bins outside
🥸Scrubbed bedroom top to bottom. The only thing I didn't do is turn the mattress.
🥸Hoover high traffic areas
🥸Water indoor plants

CherryogDog · 23/08/2023 00:58

Hi everyone, long story short, I had a man induced rage clean of my cooker. I've spent literally hours on it, tried just about every cleaning product I've got attempting to get the burnt on grease from the hob.
The oven has had three cycles of scraping and Mr Muscles Muscle'ing and I've left it with Oven Pride soaking the last layer of grime overnight.
I used one of those bags that you soak the racks in, and just as I was about to go to bed I saw it had leaked all over the worktop so I had to clean that up.
Woe betide anyone using it and not cleaning up after themselves 🤬😅

Searchingforsunnydays · 23/08/2023 09:03

Apologies I still haven't been on here much - the days are running away with me! Over the past few days I have nearly finished the school uniforms and done a little bit of organising for the term. Also started a Christmas crochet blanket which might get finished by Christmas 2030 😂!

@THAT I'm sorry you're having a tough time at the moment 💐 I hope you can sort childcare issues quickly - it must be really frustrating that he thinks because he's moving out , sorting childcare isn't his issue ! It completely baffles me how some people go on after a break up , both men and women (but mostly it's the man 🤦‍♀️) I do hope that it all settles for you soon 💐

@BloomingHazel I have been trying to reset my evening routine this week as we're heading closer to having the 5.30am alarm again !! However we go away again tomorrow so it was a bit pointless for me this week ! Maybe try going to bed just 5-10 minutes earlier than usual then once that's routine, being it back another 5-10 mins, it might be easier than trying to go to bed 30 mins or an hour earlier?

@DomesticElf I hope you've managed some rest,I'm sure your friend won't mind a little mess and would much rather you were looking after yourself ❤️

@SingToTheSky how's the kids room sorting going ?

@DitzyDaffodils well done for the decluttering - the zero waste living sounds really interesting! I may have to look it up . I have only swapped to refillable hand soap at our local refill shop and swapped to soap rather than shower gel either from the zero waste shop or a cardboard packaged soap from the supermarket - I have found soap cleans much better than shower gel which surprised me. Only swapped due to plastic waste and never thought of other areas of life that the concept could be used in. An intriguing thought!

Hope you're feeling better @partypompoms ? I don't think many people test now unless they have concerns for someone close to them . I always hear people say 'I'm sure I've had covid' but they've still carried on with day to day life. The pandemic has made me more considerate to others in that if I got a cold I used to carry on as usual , whereas now I do try to stay home where possible.

Congratulations on your new job @Shannaratiger !! When do you start ?

How was the steam fair @CherryogDog ? It sounds like you had a lovely weekend planned !

Insomnia is the worst @HillsBesideTheSea it makes everything feel so much more difficult !! I get bouts of it when I'm hormonal or when I'm worrying about things . I hope you've managed some rest ?

Todays plan is to catch up on the laundry , pack for the holiday tomorrow (I haven't even started yet !!) clean the caravan and paint mine and dd1 & 2s nails . It's dd1 gcse results tomorrow, she's feeling apprehensive but is at work 9-3 today so it should keep her mind off it 😊

BloomingHazel · 23/08/2023 13:28

sunny that is good advice, I do need to try smaller increments. Last night's sleep was awful. I ate too much overall, kept having acid reflux, so moved to the couch (recliner - all the seats recline) so I wouldn't keep DH up with my coughing and moving about. My watch showed I actually fell asleep at 1:30am, and I got up again at 5:30am to get ready for work. Last night I was tempted to call in sick, but I'm going in, tired, but I'll be there 😴

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day.

Missions: This week we are in the master bedroom (or the boudoir as some like to call it) today's mission is to spend 15 minutes tackling the floor in your closet. Pair up your shoes so they're easy to find. Clear out anything that doesn't belong.

Baby step:
Today add another section to your routines. This is the afternoon routine (or after work/ school etc). This can include changing into something more comfortable, getting dinner ready, homework with DC etc.

BloomingHazel · 24/08/2023 00:11

Ditzy I am! I also have a headache, induced by lack of sleep.
I have a plan for tonight though.
6:20pm - arrive home
6:30pm - make sure dogs are fed
6:40pm - make cake batter to get in the oven
7pm - make dinner (I'm planning on just eating a salad)
7:30ish: finish 1st part of the cake
Relax for a few minutes
8pm - yoga stretches
8:30pm - shower
9pm - clothes out for tomorrow
9:30pm - say goodnight to DS (when he goes to bed)
After that I'll take my meds, brush my teeth & go to bed!
Now I've got to follow through..

Morning all

GCSE results day! Me and DS awake at 6:30, he can be at school from 10. Fingers crossed to everyone's family and friends getting results.

Yesterday had my Tesco's Induction. Went well, can't remember much of the specifics but basically if you see something that needs doing don't leave it for someone else. Safety is everyone's responsibility.

Did find out I'm starting Friday not Sunday with an 8 hour 2 until 10 shift, going to be tiring. DH's birthday on Sunday so will have to make and ice his cake on Saturday.

To Do
DS's GCSE results
Trying to collect together all the information needed for Tax Credits/ Universal Credits - I seem to have money dotted around everywhere. Think doing another paperwork sort out will help. Does anyone else get too scared to just throw it out even when you know you don't need it - anxiety voice again!

Sorry this post was really rubbish. Will come back later with replies, DS's results and hopefully a big pile of paperwork to be shredded!

Have a good day everyone

CherryogDog · 24/08/2023 09:14

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
Sorry you've not been sleeping well @BloomingHazel .
I've had a couple of nights bad sleep and feel totally steam rolled this morning. DP is kindly sorting the horses out for me so I can have a leisurely start to the day.
ToDo I need to finish cleaning the cooker. It wasn't new when we moved in, I cleaned it to a degree, but decided this time to do it properly. It was definitely one of those jobs I wish I hadn't started 😄 or paid a professional to do it.
I was going to do my LOLs today, but it's raining so I'm waiting for a dry day so I can hang it outside. Which also translates to "I've got 2 loads waiting to be put away but might as well wait until the next loads are ready and do it all together " 😄
Happy flying everyone l🙋‍♀️

Shannaratiger · 24/08/2023 11:03

He did well but only got a 3 in Eng Language but a 5 for literature. Think he will be doing a retake along with his college course. Think I should have waited before throwing all his school stuff!

BloomingHazel · 24/08/2023 13:25

I had an amazing nights sleep last night! Was a little behind on the plan, but my watch had me asleep at 10pm, so 7 1/2 hours sleep last night! Woohoo!

Today is DHs birthday. I really don't need to do too much for it, I baked the cake last night. I just need to whip some cream to top it.
Sorry for lack of links, I needed the sleep!

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 24/08/2023 13:33

Thursday is plan & play day.

Missions: This week we are in the master bedroom (or the boudoir as some like to call it) today's mission is to clear off your bedside table. Remove anything that shouldn't be there: tissues, glass etc. Dust the clear surface and put something nice there. Picture frame, flowers, candle etc.
I did mine Tuesday <adjusts halo> 😇

Baby step:
Today we are adding Swish & Swipe (S&S for short). Basically wipe your sink out and your toilet. She wants this done every morning, you can add it whenever it makes sense for you. This is to be ready for any guests or visitors you may have. You won't have the panic of wondering if your bathroom is clean as you will know it is!
