Can anyone recommend a bar of soap that doesn’t turn into a goopy mess?!

As title
Tired of bars of soap in the bathroom dish turning into gross watery globs! We usually buy Dove.
Does such a bar of soap exist?

What are you sitting it on? I use Dove and don't have a problem with it.

PensionPuzzle · 20/07/2023 20:10

Pears is a good sturdy bar.

cokezero26 · 20/07/2023 20:11

@User68253 just a little soap dish

I agree with Pears.

QuillBill · 20/07/2023 20:11

Dove isn’t soap.

is it your soap dish? It has to drain so you have to have a double layer one for sinks or a holey one for the shower. Or get one of those magnets.

Also, I’ve read that you should unwrap your soap when you get it so it dries out more.

Faith in Nature

The Little Soap Company ( I think that’s the name- sold in Waitrose)

Also Pears- the green one is excellent for hand washing

Change your soap dish, you need something metal with lots of ways for air to get to the bar

SleepingisanArt · 20/07/2023 20:13

We have Simple Soap (although it's actually soap free) in the shower. It's on a wall mounted soap dish and isn't gloopy at all. We have liquid soap at the sink (all the sinks) so that we don't have soap dishes taking up valuable space.

Buy a soap dish with drainage, Joseph Joseph have some good designs.

Love pears! And Molton Brown soap is very hard and sturdy!

msmonstera · 20/07/2023 20:15

Saw a hack for soap where you keep a cap from an old shampoo bottle or similar and sink that into a bar of soap. It raises it so it's not sitting in a puddle going squishy. This works with Dove soap in my shower (prefer liquid for sink hand washing).

Makinglists · 20/07/2023 20:16

Pears is the only one that could resist child hand squishing in our house.

Callisto1 · 20/07/2023 20:16

Another shout out for Pears. Though I had no trouble with Dove either. Bad experience with a fancy Waitrose soap though. Wish I'd remember the name.

I stor soaps in linen drawers for as long as possible before using them and have soap dishes with good air circulation.

CopperSeahorses · 20/07/2023 20:19

I use grüum soap bars (and shampoo bars and shower bars)

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 20/07/2023 20:21

Green pears soap is lovely. Sometimes hard to get though.

Jellybean23 · 20/07/2023 20:21

Cussons imperial leather soap is good - after use, put it label side down on the wash basin. No more gloop.

Fourlegsandatail · 20/07/2023 20:24

Dove isn’t soap. for a bargain I recommend Imperial Leather, Pears doesn’t work for me (not sure if the science but transparent soaps seem less effective than non- transparent).

French soap is the best though. Savon De Marseille Soap is a dream and every scent is gorgeous.

DirectionToPerfection · 20/07/2023 20:29

Nesti Dante and the French soaps mentioned above are my favourites.

You do also need a soap dish that drains, I prefer the rack type ones.

noworklifebalance · 22/07/2023 20:07

Imperial Leather - by the sink and in the shower. I find it also makes me feel squeaky clean.

hexsnidgett · 22/07/2023 20:16

I found that the teens and dh in the house were sloshing copius amounts of water over the soap when washing faces and hands and the soap just got so mushy.
I moved the soap dish to the window sill and problem solved.

Namechange828492 · 22/07/2023 20:32

100% pears

LucyGru · 22/07/2023 20:50

As others have said, it's not the soap, it's the soap dish. Needs to dry between uses. We buy cheapy supermarket own and it doesn't mush because we keep it in a little wire basket.
