A vacuum that actually sucks stuff up?!

Can anyone recommend a vacuum cleaner that actually sucks stuff up? 🤦🏼‍♀️ We have a Dyson cordless at the moment (albeit an older version) and an upright corded Dyson but both are useless on my laminate floors. Anything bigger than a crumb the cordless won’t pick up, and the upright Dyson just pushes stuff across the floor without actually sucking it up, it's infuriating! So I end up on my hands and knees under the dining table after every sodding meal sweeping everything up with a dustpan and brush first, and then going over it with the cordless Dyson afterwards. Maybe I'm being lazy but I just want to be able to hoover it all up in one go! 🤣 We're living in 2023 surely in this day and age there is a vacuum capable of picking up Cheerios and smushed up breadsticks and stuff? Or am I just resigned to a life of sweeping first? 🥴 I'm not bothered about it being cordless or corded, I just want something to do the job. Needs to be upright, I'd prefer something compact like a stick vacuum so it's easier to store away. Not really keen on cylinder vacs as I want something I can just push along. Has anyone got a really good vacuum that they would recommend? Thank you!

I like Sharks. I don't use the hard floor setting. I use the carpet setting for everything and that seems to work well on hard floors too.

I know you want something a little modern and tidy...

But this legend will pick up anything.

Lego, toast, socks, banana skins, crayons...Basically anything that comes in his path is forever forgotten about in my house 🤣

I have dyson but the battery needs changing once a year or there is little suction

have you tried a new battery

Whinge · 09/05/2023 08:07

Another vote for Henry. It might not be what you want, but it's the vaccum you need. Grin

Vacuum

Ah for an edit button. Smile

I love my sebo. Looks old fashioned but it is fab.
I have a shark upstairs but often carry the sebo up as I prefer it.
Sebo is 12 years old and going well.

Reasonableadjustments · 09/05/2023 08:11

Another Henry vote from me. He is amazing. My cordless dyson is only used for the stairs now.

TheSproutOfWrath · 09/05/2023 08:13

My Shark.
I have four spaniels and three long haired cats. It's truly amazing.

Nannyfannybanny · 09/05/2023 08:14

I have a shark pet corded, have had it 4 years and love it
I have mix laminate/carpet,long hair dog,did have 2 up to a couple of months ago. It hooks on my kitchen wall.... open plan bungalow,so no under stairs cupboard. ; It turns into a hand held, came with masses of tools . also have a battery hand held Dyson which I find works very well. We do remove and clean the filters at least once a month, maybe that makes a difference. So relieved you said vacuum. When folk say "hoover the floor", it makes my ears bleed!!

Another quote for Shark - lift away means it can go under the tightest of spaces and is the only hoover that can cope with my shedding hair 😂. Powerful suction and would never go back to a Dyson

TroysMammy · 09/05/2023 08:19

"Nothing sucks like an Electrolux" 😁 Seriously I have a Miele. Bought in 1993 and still going strong.

TheFairyCaravan · 09/05/2023 08:46

We’ve got a corded and a cordless Shark. I love them both and would never go back to a Dyson now. We’ve got hard floors downstairs and they both cope with them fine.

Findyourneutralspace · 09/05/2023 08:48

I like my Miele C3. It’s compact but powerful and picks up anything.
Henry will do what you need him too as well.

ithinkicanithinkican · 09/05/2023 08:49

Based on the glowing reviews online, I bought a Shark - the WORST vacuum I've ever owned. I now have a Miele Cat & Dog - it's brilliant and I love it, it actually sucks things up and then some! And fits neatly into quite a small cupboard space too. Not cheap but apparently they last for years and customer service is good - well worth the money IMO.

whineybing · 09/05/2023 08:52

Another vote for Miele. I had a cordless dyson that just flicked everything around the room (at which point I threw it down the stairs in frustration).

oOiluvfriendsOo · 09/05/2023 08:53

Another vote for Henry (I have Harry) suction is amazing.

ILoveCreamCrackersMe · 09/05/2023 08:53

My Hetty is the best, she had taken everything we've put front of her.

Dust, masonry, coal dust, ashes, food, grass, children and so on. Yes it's pain to weild around sometimes but she's outlasted several dyson's in this house. After the honeymoon period of each dyson is over, I really start to hate them. They clog so easily and constantly need the filters rinsed. I won't be fooled a 3rd time!

Allmarbleslost · 09/05/2023 08:53

My cordless shark is truly shit. I love my miele cat and dog. Henry is the best I think but he's an unwieldy little bugger.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 09/05/2023 08:54

Shark corded with lift away and pet attachment. You can vary the suction easily and it has hard floor and carpet setting. Used to have Dysons, have had corded and stick. Shark is much better. No faff with the Shark switching between various settings and configurations which it always was with the Dysons.

kaylz1234 · 09/05/2023 09:12

Does Henry/Hetty actually suck up big stuff though? Like Cheerios, breadsticks, cornflakes etc? I used one years ago and it was truly shit, had to go over the same patch of carpet 6/7 times for it to pick anything up!

This chap on YouTube reviews vacuum cleaners and repeats the same tests so you can compare. I have a Miele C3 Cat and Dog, we have no pets but I have long hair so I used the pet hair head for all carpet and the other head for the hard floors. It is brilliant and powerful.

Miele. No question. That Henry crap does my head in with its clunky shape and it spends most of its time on its side, having tipped over whilst I'm vacuuming. Tedious, overrated shite. Changing its bag is awful too.

ValerieJ · 09/05/2023 09:16

Love my Henry.
I must admit I hated the idea of it before buying it, but now that I have it I love it.

Gunpowder · 09/05/2023 09:17

Shark people: which Shark is the good one? There is a lot of choice and the reviews are mixed. I can’t deal with making another vacuum mistake. Thanks.

Sorry for the hijack OP

Parkermumma07 · 09/05/2023 09:18

I have a Hetty she is amazing she picks up everything if it will fit in the pipe she will suck it up, if the suction is a bit off it just means the bag needs changing.
the Henry’s / Hetties are simple machines I find the dysons ect too complex with too many things that can go wrong.
