A vacuum that actually sucks stuff up?!

Can anyone recommend a vacuum cleaner that actually sucks stuff up? 🤦🏼‍♀️ We have a Dyson cordless at the moment (albeit an older version) and an upright corded Dyson but both are useless on my laminate floors. Anything bigger than a crumb the cordless won’t pick up, and the upright Dyson just pushes stuff across the floor without actually sucking it up, it's infuriating! So I end up on my hands and knees under the dining table after every sodding meal sweeping everything up with a dustpan and brush first, and then going over it with the cordless Dyson afterwards. Maybe I'm being lazy but I just want to be able to hoover it all up in one go! 🤣 We're living in 2023 surely in this day and age there is a vacuum capable of picking up Cheerios and smushed up breadsticks and stuff? Or am I just resigned to a life of sweeping first? 🥴 I'm not bothered about it being cordless or corded, I just want something to do the job. Needs to be upright, I'd prefer something compact like a stick vacuum so it's easier to store away. Not really keen on cylinder vacs as I want something I can just push along. Has anyone got a really good vacuum that they would recommend? Thank you!

If you're constantly picking up larger bits of debris, get yourself a Titan from Screwfix. It's like a less anthropomorphic Henry. The bags are huge, so you're not constantly changing them, and they suck up everything. It's not the most glamorous piece of kit, but it's easy to maintain and eats whatever you want it to.

I second the Titan!!! It's a beast of a machine! I bought one a few weeks ago after a recommendation on a similar thread on here (only cost around £65) and my god, it practically sucked the carpet off the floor!! I had the exact same problem OP: a choice of chasing rice krispies around the floor or having to sweep then hoover. I've gone through at least four vacuums in as many years (including a dyson cordless and bosch cordless, and replaced the batteries on each) and I'm afraid this cheap, chunky, plug-in model beats them all hands down.

We've had Dysons, they were good once, don't rate them anymore. Currently we have 3 vacuums; an old Henry that loves in the garage for DIY cleanup, a cordless GTech which is great for quick clean & crumb cleanup and also our brand new Sebo for deep clean. DH is the hooverer and did his research and I'm surprised at just how good it is. We have 3 girls with long thick hair which has bested most of our hoovers. The sebo made our old flat carpets all thick and fluffy.

Just wanted to come back and say I bought a Miele Boost CX1 Parquet and it's an absolute bloody DREAM!!! I'm in love. Hands down the best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. It sucks up all the cornflakes, crumbs, smushed up biscuits etc. amazing suction hoovering the stairs, I can turn down the suction to hoover our Totter and Tumble play mats and the telescopic pole is fantastic at getting cobwebs and dust from the top of doorframes. Thanks for all the recommendations 👍🏼

We have had a Harry the Hound for years but because he is rather heavy and also a bit stinky, I tried a Shark cordless. Absolutely useless!

I have relegated Harry to my husband’s work van (still works extremely well) and treated myself to a brand new Hetty today. You can’t beat them for suction. My carpets look new!

I have a Dyson upright (corded) and discovered that on hard floors, it needs to be set on MINIMUM suck setting. It doesn't pick up if on the max setting as the head is too close to the floor.

Miele. 2x suction of a Henry/Hetty etc. It has speed buttons for a reason.

I have shark and it's amazing, especially the bendy bit that you can use to reach under furniture. I have bagless version with two batteries for downstairs and I use it at least twice a day.

iusedtohavechickens · 28/10/2023 18:05

Have had my Miele coming up to 4 years with no loss of suction x

Can I ask what model this is? a hoover that could inspire me to hoover twice a day sounds like a miracle.

I have a yellow smaller sized Betty ( house is tiny with limited storage). A good thing to do is buy a super long 5 metre hose. This means that I do not have to carry her upstairs when I vacuum them now. British made indestructible suck it bucket, I can forgive her terrible balance.
