A vacuum that actually sucks stuff up?!

Can anyone recommend a vacuum cleaner that actually sucks stuff up? 🤦🏼‍♀️ We have a Dyson cordless at the moment (albeit an older version) and an upright corded Dyson but both are useless on my laminate floors. Anything bigger than a crumb the cordless won’t pick up, and the upright Dyson just pushes stuff across the floor without actually sucking it up, it's infuriating! So I end up on my hands and knees under the dining table after every sodding meal sweeping everything up with a dustpan and brush first, and then going over it with the cordless Dyson afterwards. Maybe I'm being lazy but I just want to be able to hoover it all up in one go! 🤣 We're living in 2023 surely in this day and age there is a vacuum capable of picking up Cheerios and smushed up breadsticks and stuff? Or am I just resigned to a life of sweeping first? 🥴 I'm not bothered about it being cordless or corded, I just want something to do the job. Needs to be upright, I'd prefer something compact like a stick vacuum so it's easier to store away. Not really keen on cylinder vacs as I want something I can just push along. Has anyone got a really good vacuum that they would recommend? Thank you!

I bought an Argos basic cylinder vacuum (I know you don't want one of those), it cost about £40 10yrs ago and the thing is a beast! It sucks up everything, beats my Shark hands down, and is still going strong.

Henry here too.

We have a Dyson stick for day to day, but whip out dear Henry when a proper clean is needed. Ours is now 14y old!

Miele cat and dog is fantastic. I have a Henry and a shark, neither as good as the Miele

TeaIsRisen · 09/05/2023 13:44

Deffo the Henry!

whitesnowflake · 09/05/2023 14:03

I have a Miele and a cordless Miele, both are fab. I would never buy a Dyson again.

Inspired by this thread I've just taken my Shark apart to clean it and oh my word! Life has changed forever!

Crikeyalmighty · 09/05/2023 14:46

I like my Miele too- good suction and now 12 years old but as others have said a Henry is a good option too -

Nannyfannybanny · 09/05/2023 16:20

GoneTillNovember🤣🤣🤣. I have 3 sets of filters for my Pet Shark, they're washed, and sprinkled with a little fabric conditioner at least once a month. (Stops the place smelling doggy) I've had 3 Dysons in the past, worked ok to start with, but only lasted a couple of years, and were blooming expensive. My son has cream carpets throughout, and OCD,has just bought an upright shark pet with the removable canister thingy and he absolutely loves it.

Miele. My cleaner recommended it to me years ago and I have recommended to so many friends, all extremely happy. It's compact and super powerful.

Those with a Miele - which model are you using? Thank you!

Am I the only one who hates Henry? We have one, and a titan because our house is a renovation project (and a plasterer fucked my beloved Miele cat and dog by hoovering up plaster dust and over filling the bag which then exploded and sent plaster dust into the motor 😡) and while the Henry is good for sucking up bits by using just the nozzle I don’t feel it does anything whilst hoovering normally-seems to just push bits along on the hard floors and not get anything out of the carpet. Plus it’s so cumbersome and gets stuck everywhere.

I loathe the stupid heavy thing. Absolutely awful and stupid shape too. I can't understand why anyone likes them. Miele can't be beaten.

PuntoLon · 09/05/2023 19:24

Had exact same issue with Dyson and was useless after DC1 was moving about and eating. Moved to shark upright corded! Absolutely sucks everything up! And the 'bag' is still big enough to go around the house once even twice sometimes.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 09/05/2023 19:29

Henry/Hetty fans - has anyone tried the Henry Quick, the cordless stick Henry?

Henry is so clunky and cumbersome so if the stick was good I’d be keen to try it .

itsmylife7 · 09/05/2023 19:29

Henry or Charles hoovers.

Our Miele is called as S2510 but it's from 2007! Honestly - it's a good today as it was on the first day we got it. Not an upright though, a cylinder.

I always said I'd get a Miele cordless as soon as they came out, given our great experience with the cylinder Miele but they have slightly mixed reviews and they are horribly expensive.

I'm pleased to report that taking my shark apart, not just the filter and sponge but the head/brush, has made a massive difference and it's back to working well again. I watched a YouTube video but it's incredibly easy to do. I'm now back to being a shark fan! I find the multiple battery packs really useful for doing a large space.

And does it suck ip everything in its path? Even bigger things like cereal mess and smushed up breadsticks? 😂😂

The Miele does, without complaint whatsoever. It's got a very uncomplicated system, nothing to get stuck anywhere, all goes up a tube, into a bag and gets chucked.

The Shark does too but I realised when I took the head apart and found a LOT of toast crumbs and Cheerios Blush that perhaps if I'm going to subject it to that life I need to look after it a little better! Once I'd unclogged it and put it back together I immediately sucked up yesterdays dried macaroni from under the high chair... No problems. It is a bit more of a complex head/tube system than the miele so more capacity for clogging.

GoneTillNovember · 09/05/2023 23:01

Not toast crumbs - toast CRUSTS. Crumbs would be fine. Crusts... Less so 🙈

kaylz1234 · 09/05/2023 23:01

Okay next question - bagged or bagless?

OP posts:
GoneTillNovember · 09/05/2023 23:04

I've found both equally good. I use fake Miele replacement bags from eBay and they are fine. The bagless compartment on the shark is smallish but easy to empty.

LangClegsInSpace · 09/05/2023 23:06

If Miele are still as good as they were 20 years ago when I bought mine then get one of them.

LangClegsInSpace · 09/05/2023 23:07

I also use fake bags.
