Flylady Fledglings February: Thawing out of winter

Hello everyone, iWelcome back to our regulars, and if you are new or returning, a huge welcome to you as well! Please feel free to post or lurk, whatever helps you most.

This is an incredibly helpful thread and the system can be confusing but someone on here will be able to answer your questions and get you on track.

So, Flylady. That mysterious system that promises a lovely clean house! This link is a good place to read about the basic principles, but we strongly recommend ignoring the first bit - do not sign up for emails as you’ll be inundated!

www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

If you’re new to the system, or are wanting a refresher course, the baby steps may be a good idea. Some are more useful than others, we’ve found, and stuff like affirmations may not work for you, so pick and choose what you want to try. You don’t have to do it all! Perfectionism can be left at the door, we celebrate any achievement here no matter how small it seems (this is why you’ll see our Ta Da lists as well as To Do lists!).

www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

There are parts of the house called zones, each taking a different part of the month, and missions in those zones to do little tasks we may have neglected. If you don’t feel ready for those though, a good way to start is doing 15 minutes decluttering in that zone! Remember it didn’t get messy in a day so it won’t be fixed in a day either. Slow and steady.

Then there’s the daily focus - each day of the week has a theme, although many of us switch them around to suit our own lives.

Each day I’ll provide the link to the launch pad, which is where you can see what is meant to be done that day (but again don’t feel you have to do all of it! That way lies burnout!).

A couple of principles we talk about on here are:
Future Friend - the idea of doing something today that benefits you later, such as choosing your clothes or making your lunch the night before.
Power of Three (po3) - if you’re overwhelmed, just pick three easy tasks - no matter how small - and forget about the rest until they’re done. Then reassess and decide another three.

Finally a few acronyms:
DW - dishwasher, not dear wife!
LOL - load of laundry, we aren’t finding washing hilarious
WM - washing machine
TD - tumble dryer

Hi, Lots of busy people.
No flying yesterday except loading the dishwasher and making my bed and S&S in bathroom.
Went for investigation yesterday for internal bleeding. They didn't find anything which was a relief in a way.I looked at the snowdrops in the morning hoping and praying I wouldn't be looking at them with a heavy heart today.I looked out at them with joy this morning. It might have been a Cancer diagnosis and thank God it isn't so far. Nurses and Consultant were amazing.Great from start to finish. I slept well as I had taken advantage of the medication and throat spray on offer. Not allowed to operate machinery or drive the car- I take it that means vacuum cleaner, WM, DW etc😚for 24 hrs from 3:30pm.
Need to make a cake for Gardening Club but I am thinking Gingerbread or something simple.Had to scrap plans of Persian Cake from new book as we couldn't get Figs- dried figs. Hopefully next month.

Hazel -those look amazing and delicious. Do you think a stiff letter to them about lack of correct diagnosis might work instead of payment and if they insist then put a written complaint about incorrect diagnosis and distressed caused by it.

Pom Poms - i have a similar turquoise thing.Great for socks and knickers.Would be good for tiny baby things. We have a couple of radiator things and a Lakeland Airer - 2 tier as we felt the 3 tier was a bit less stable when we saw it in the Windermere Flagship shop. I put it on a night but mostly just put it in kitchen near the Everhot and it is dry in the morning without plugging it in.

UNP - Don't over do it.I hope you are getting some help but great work.

Scourgify- I think I have missed it but are you moving too or just the child? Damn about the shelf I hate that when you are making an effort then something goes wrong and creates more work. Arrrgh! on your behalf!

Ditzy- Amazing effort. Bet you are😚at yourself.

ED I got the surround and lid cleaned yesterday morning since DH didn't make any effort but haven't turned the Hot plate off yet.Need to gear myself up for that. I use lemon juice too but haven't tried that combo. Is it powdered BKF? I have used spray as that is what we were given.

Better move my butt as still in dressing gown and been on main computer for far too long.I was up first having to make my own cup of tea, bit rubbish so I have hogged it for hours and caught up with all sorts including some very sad footage from Ukraine including a mum and two children who fled to Turkey a few months ago and have been killed in the earthquake.🙏

EasilyDirected · 16/02/2023 13:02

Yes Red, powdered BKF made up to a paste with water. I have used it for years in the bathroom. do you keep the EH on full all night or eco? I find if ours is on the eco clothes don't dry in front of it, apart from the very nearest so we don't bother, although do put a few things on the lid. I know if we left them there during the day they would dry, but it is too much in the way in the daytime if it's left up. I'm glad you didn't get the outcome you feared yesterday.

Who was asking about ceiling airers? My friend has one of these but I can't think where we'd put one, space really is a problem in our house. It's probably dearer than the Ikea rack as well. www.foxydry.com/products/foxydry-mini

Scourgify · 16/02/2023 18:48

Red - it's a kind of a three-way swap with each person owning their own (very small) flat now. Each person has stuff in two places, not counting the piles in this house and garage/shed. One has decided he doesn't need a wardrobe. The tiniest place had only an airbed until this week, and needs furniture.

My aim is to future-proof this house for old age. I don't want to give up the large garden and garage unless there is absolutely no option. We're within walking distance of most amenities and others including hospital are a short bus or car journey away. Lots of taxis too.

So for now it looks as if the entire family is sorting, tidying, and decluttering.

I ended up just paying the bill for urgent care on my lunch break. I don't want to owe anyone money 🤦‍♀️
I did get chicken curry in the slow cooker this morning, so tonight I just need to worry about the sides 😇

Red I really hope you're feeling better. Did you get any answers as to what is going on with you? I'm glad it's not what you were fearing.

🍒👋 to everyone

DitzyDaffodils · 17/02/2023 01:07

Hope they get to the bottom of whatever is wrong soon Red

I never knew FlyLady had radio Pompoms

All I did was the basics today, plus ordered a few clothes for spring. Must try harder tomorrow!

HungryHazelEyes · 17/02/2023 04:33

Ta Das:

Family fun day today

OP posts:
DitzyDaffodils · 18/02/2023 15:20

Public announcement 📢 I have no motivation. I've been slacking off on all my tasks all week, now it's Saturday and I still have them ALL to do and I don't want to. That is all. [ slinks away quietly ]

HungryHazelEyes · 18/02/2023 15:41

Ditzy nothing wrong with taking some time off, just don't get to the point where you feel overwhelmed!

Today I'll be baking a cake for SIL, as we're celebrating her birthday tonight. As well as cooking her a salmon dinner as requested.
DD is coming tonight too, so that'll be nice as it's been a long time since she's joined us for our weekend family dinner.
Currently sitting on the couch with both dogs, about to get up and get my 2nd cup of coffee before I get started! (It's just gone 8:30am here)

Possibly back on later with ta das
🍒👋 to everyone

freezingpompoms · 18/02/2023 19:36

@DitzyDaffodils I'm 100% with you.

Bare minimum all week and next week is half term so can't see much getting done then either. I can only just be bothered to post the links here!

🌈 renew your spirit day by doing something nice and relaxing just for you...readings book or a bath.

UsernameNotPresent · 18/02/2023 20:22

This move is such an upheaval everything feels a bit strange and out of whack at the moment.

Ta das over past 2 days:
💪Decluttering done: including tidied up in all cupboards and drawers, and cleaned inside. Basically now I won't be embarrassed when strangers (packers) will open them to pack things. Lots of unnecessary stuff thrown out. Skip will be picked up early next week.
💪Cleaned kitchen. Last week I left DH in charge of kitchen tidy up, and let me tell you, what I found this morning was not impressive, he hasn't wiped the cooker once. It was gross. Honestly, does he not have eyes?!
💪 Shampooed carpets in new house: upstairs, stairs, and partially downstairs done. Tomorrow will need to finish the rest of downstairs and second set of stairs.
💪Moved one of three fish tanks across to new house.
💪Folded gazillion loads of laundry.
💪More LOLs in the wash.

I really want a glass of wine now, but I can't 😫

DitzyDaffodils · 18/02/2023 20:39

I think I've done enough relaxing this week 😆 it'll be a busy day for me tomorrow.

Maybe everyone feels the same Pompoms perhaps there's something in the air. Posting the links is much appreciated anyway.

Happy birthday to SIL Hazel hope you all enjoyed the occasion, its nice to have all the family together.

Ta-da's:

☠️ Morning routine eventually
☠️ Decluttering
☠️ Went to the bank
☠️ Took a walk
☠️ Tidied the entire place

🍒👋 To anyone lurking. Hope your week has gone better than mine.

Searchingforsunnydays · 19/02/2023 00:11

Hi everyone 👋

I've been lurking here a while but I used to post a few years back . I’m hoping that if I stop lurking and start posting , you will give me a kick up the backside when I need it (which is a lot !) because here I am again, not being able to sleep because I’m feeling overwhelmed by the house .

I’ve refreshed the fly lady routines , I’m going to write my to do list for tomorrow and read for a while. I shall check in with you all tomorrow!

I hope everyone is keeping well, I’m looking forward to catching up - I’m sure someone just had a baby when I was last in the group, it was a few years back so maybe more little ones have been added since then !

HungryHazelEyes · 19/02/2023 06:39

Welcome back sunny you were probably on this thread before my time. (I hope it's okay to call you sunny)

Ditzy it ended up being a great evening. Dinner went down well, the cake was a hit (pic attached) and sent the leftovers of it with SIL as it won't get eaten here. DH has cut out sugar, I'm doing low carb (and couldn't have it anyway) and DS will forget we have it until it's too late!

Ta Das:
🥳 baked cake
🥳 made fruit compote layer
🥳 grocery shopping for dinner
🥳 made frosting
🥳 put the cake together
🥳 put birthday decorations up
🥳 prepped potatoes with DS'S help
🥳 prepped carrots and parsnips
🥳 prepped creamy asparagus (DD showed up just in time to shred parmesan cheese so I could take a shower)
🥳 poured some wine as everyone had shown up!

Thankyou for the welcome back hazel, I’m happy to be called sunny 😊 The cake looks delicious, glad that you had a lovely evening!

I managed a few hours sleep eventually.

This mornings ta das:
✔️ Cleaned kitchen sink
✔️ Wash done and hung up
✔️ washed, dressed and breakfast
✔️ A little bit of ironing (dd needed trousers ironing so rather than just doing them , I set a 15 min timer and did a little of the uniform ironing)

Lots of to do’s, I’m going to concentrate on the necessities and being my future friend for back to work and school tomorrow.

Happy Sunday everyone!

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/02/2023 14:38

<insert obscenely long ta da list here>

Hope you are all keeping well.
