I don't know what I was thinking It was by the sink, the sink was dirty, i just picked it up and cleaned the sink using it. I can see I have scratched it. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? I feel very stupid.

The kitchen sink in case that needs clarifying

😱 sorry, no I doubt there is. You'll get used to seeing it

BlueRaincoat1 · 17/11/2022 22:37

I'm such a dick. What on earth was I thinking. Its really bad to be honest.

If it’s stainless steel there’s nothing you can do. If it’s porcelain or ceramic you might be able to get it fixed using a sink resurfacing company.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 17/11/2022 22:44

Do the whole sink with the steel wool
pretend it is a v expensive special effect

BlueRaincoat1 · 17/11/2022 22:48

Every time I go back to look at it I feel sick. It's awful. My (very nice) DH will notice pretty quickly. I don't know what I'm going to say. Sorry, I went momentarily insane?

What is the sink made of?

BlueRaincoat1 · 17/11/2022 22:56

Stainless steel.

You can polish it out, but it will be quite hard work. A Dremel-type handheld multi tool will help.

Activelyannoyed · 17/11/2022 22:57

You can’t recover from scratching stainless steel, you either now keep as is or replace. But you can’t scratch it and repair

Aquamarine1029 · 17/11/2022 23:00

I'm sorry this happened, op. It's just a sink, though. Of all the horrible things that can happen, this is the bottom of the list.

BlueRaincoat1 · 17/11/2022 23:01

Thanks @Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight
I have seen various American products online but not as many in the uk

@Activelyannoyed this is my fear - the Internet says it will start to rust. Or do you think it will be OK but just look shit?

I can't even find the same sink online - so I don't even know if I can replace it, it's a bloody great sink.

Oh god I'm such a dick.

I've cleaned my sink with wire wool before and it hasn't rusted (it was already faintly scratched when we moved here so I've never bothered about adding more scratches)

BlueRaincoat1 · 17/11/2022 23:03

Thank you @Aquamarine1029 , you are of course right, I know. I just feel stupid. I'm always telling my DS to just think before he acts, and I wish I had taken my own advice.

Thanks @ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse , thus is very encouraging!

We have scratches on ours that are 9 years old, no rust. So as long as you can live with the scratches, it is grand!

Activelyannoyed · 17/11/2022 23:12

It shouldn’t rust, ours didn’t, it will just look done in.

BlueRaincoat1 · 17/11/2022 23:13

Thanks @Snugglemonkey the scratches look shit (I gave it a good 'clean' 😣) but it not rusting is defo more important

How bad is it? I've used brillo pads on know me before and it's been fine. Are you sure they won't wear down with use over time?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/11/2022 23:18

**on mine

DoodlePug · 17/11/2022 23:19

You have my sympathies, my DH took wire wool to our 1 week old gas hob 😭 We did just have to buy a new one.

I'm not sure I'd care so much about the sink though.

BlueRaincoat1 · 17/11/2022 23:23

Here's a pic, it is bad

BlueRaincoat1 · 17/11/2022 23:24

I personally dont care that much - after a few days I probably wouldn't notice.
But I mind feeling stupid, and I think my DH will mind - he's good at keeping things nice and I'm annoyed with myself
