Best way to remove black mould from bathroom sealant?

Flopsy145 · 05/11/2022 19:23

Just that really! Typical new build house, extractor fan not working until recently but now does come on. What's the best way to remove the already developed black mould on the bath/tile connecting sealant. It's a shower over bath. Thank you!

Hg Mould Spray

This. It works well for superficial mould. If the mould has penetrated the silicone, the only way is to remove it and reseal.

@Squirrelonwheels thank you! Did you get the spray or foam spray?

Thanks all I'm also going to get the cillit bang stuff!

Why are you getting products for 3 or 5 pounds when you can get a bottle of Tesco thick bleach for 60p and soak a few bits of kitchen roll in it and leave overnight?

I have cleaned far, far worse than your pics at clients houses.

StrawberryPot · 06/11/2022 08:33

Have you tried just scrubbing it with a nail brush / old toothbrush and some Cif?

CraftyGin · 06/11/2022 16:43

May sure you have safety goggles.

Update from 2 rounds of CIF black mould, looks like it's worked better on the newer ones but think it's stained the worst section. I'll try the bleach and HG stuff next

Mould Magic - you can buy it on Facebook from Must Have Ideas. Totally brilliant.

Cut it out, use a silicon remover dissolver, clean with meths (this vital to get a good water tight seal) then re seal, using silicon moulding tool and a spray bottle of v weak washing up liquid (Youtube it)

Tip: over fill the gap and use a hi quality silicon, spray with water & practice first.

i didn't write any of this, as it happen partners got his mate round who is a tiler and i asked him.

Hg Mould Spray

Yes, this is the best stuff you can get.

LisaJool · 17/11/2022 09:16

Neat bleach is the best thing. No need to faff around with cotton wool or kitchen roll, just apply it with a tooth brush and 'massage' it in an leave overnight. Use toothbrush to scrub away if necessary.

KnittedCardi · 17/11/2022 09:20

Bleach is fine, and will remove the mould, but HG seems to stop it coming back. Worked wonders in my old shower. Also DD's student flat has been transformed by HG 😊

goingtotown · 17/11/2022 23:26

Neat bleach soaked on cotton wool or tissue pushed into the sealant leave overnight.

shams05 · 17/11/2022 23:37

Put a thin layer of domestos bleech on it and then cover with rolled up loo roll. Double layer the tissue so no air can get to it. Leave it over night. Remove in the morning! Mould??? What mould!?

Kitchen roll soaked in bleach.

This. Leave it overnight and rinse it down in the morning, it will look like new.

Honeysuckle16 · 18/11/2022 00:02

Agree with all the others that kitchen roll/toilet paper soaked in thick bleach, pressed well onto the sealant and left for a few hours, works perfectly. Rinse off once all sign of the mould has gone.

Calmdown14 · 18/11/2022 00:04

Dettol or astonish mould and mildew remover (I got it for £1 on Amazon)

Just spray it and leave, preferably with the bathroom window open.

Butterfly44 · 18/11/2022 00:25

Cut out. Spray mould remover. Let dry. Re seal.

Flopsy145 · 18/11/2022 07:58

Thanks all I'm going to try the bleach trick tonight 😀

Word of warning. Use the real household thick bleach and you will be fine leaving it overnight. I know the HG mould spray dissolves sealant if left on too long which creates new problems with leakage, i even says so on the instructions. Not sure about other mould sprays.

jaylin · 22/10/2023 11:47

Hi, what was the sealant cleaner called?

HappiestSleeping · 22/10/2023 13:07

No Nonsense mould remover from screwfix.

Alternatively, removing and replacing the sealant this is the guide to watch...

Make sure you replace it with mould resistant silicone (Dow 785+ is good).

H G mould spray its brilliant

Iamplastic · 22/10/2023 17:06

Bi- Carb and bleach paste leave for an hour or so - or overnight if needed. Did this just last week. It looks brand new! I sometimes use it on grout and scrub it with a toothbrush. Takes things right off.

Vitriolinsanity · 22/10/2023 19:12

My cleaner soaks neat bleach onto kitchen roll and shapes it right in. Works a bloody treat.
