Which brand of freezer to get: Beko, Zanussi or Bosch?!

I bought a Bush freezer three years ago and it has broken. I will not be buying that brand again.

The cheapest non-Bush freezer in the right size that I can find is Beko for £250 (from Argos). Then there's Zanussi for £329 or Bosch for £349 (both from John Lewis). I want a freezer that will last. Which brand would you go for?!

This thread is quite old, but if you've landed here looking for appliance recommendations, we've recently updated our best freezer page with brands and products Mumsnetters love. We hope it's helpful!

Bosch

BitOutOfPractice · 25/10/2022 11:03

Bosch if it's German Bosch.

I had a £1500 fridge freezer that lasted 20 years. And a £300 fridge freezer that lasted 5 so the cheaper one was actually better value (though not for the environment of course).

Thank you! Interested to hear any other experiences of these brands!

I go with Bosch for most appliances including fridge freezer and they've lasted really well. I made the mistake of buying a Zanussi cooker that was an absolute heap of junk and broke after two years so I'm boycotting that brand for life.

lannistunut · 25/10/2022 12:14

I'm loyal to Bosch.

Unseelie · 25/10/2022 12:41

We’ve always had Bosch freezers and never had a problem.

Friends who’ve had Beko have had many problems 👀

zanussi probably ok too.

Yeah you just reminded me that our Zanussi new oven only lasted 2 years :(

We have 2 Beko freezers and are happy with them, they are also suitable for in cold spaces like garages, one of ours is in the garage.

FinallyHere · 25/10/2022 15:45

Usually I would say Bosch, we have had no issues.

In the last five years we have bought a Beko freezer and washing machine, to go in the garage. Beko are one of the few brands that do not insist on having appliances indoors only.

I was prepared for loads of issues and mentally expected to have to replace them every few years. In fact they have both been brilliant.

DM also got one of their washing machines, too, because it was so (old fashioned ) simple to use

Cannot praise them highly enough.

feellikeanalien · 25/10/2022 15:49

Don't get Beko. We had a Beko fridge freezer and it fused all the electrics in the house. Their customer service was terrible too. They told me they could send an engineer out to have a look at it in about a week's time. If I hadn't bought it through ao I would probably still be arguing with them. We had a three way conversation and in the end ao agreed to replace it immediately. I ended up with a Fridgemaster which has been great.

Wallywobbles · 25/10/2022 15:52

I think it was a Beko freezer that burnt my garage down.

OldTinHat · 25/10/2022 16:15

I have a Beko fridge freezer and have had no problems with it since I bought it five years ago.

onmywayamarillo · 25/10/2022 16:25

Bosch fridge freezer is fantastic 90cm one! Get frost free though

chisum · 25/10/2022 17:22

Our Beko caught fire during the night.

ReviewingTheSituation · 25/10/2022 17:28

We've got a Beko FF that we've had for years - no problems with it at all. It's the best we've ever had from a fridge perspective - fruit and veg lasts loads longer than it did in previous fridges. We also have a Beko washing machine and tumble drier - no issues with either of them. I'd happily choose them again.

teaandcakes123 · 25/10/2022 19:17

Bosch it

chisum · 25/10/2022 20:32

@teaandcakes123 luckily our daughter got up early and smelt it

SongforWhoever · 30/10/2022 11:05

Definitely do not buy Beko. I had two Beko fridges, the first one lasted two years and the second one lasted one week past the one year warranty.

avocadotofu · 30/10/2022 11:06

Bosch.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 30/10/2022 11:09

I prefer Indesit to Bosch, having had both several times. Indesit seem to be designed by people who actually use appliances.

nottoday300 · 30/10/2022 11:12

I'm on my 4th fridge freezer in 2 weeks (no one would believe me if I told the story, can only happen to us) DO NO GET BEKO customer service awful, Hotpoint meh last and final one the 4th attempt is ..drum roll.. a Bosch its great and most importantly it WORKS!!!!

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 30/10/2022 11:13

We have a Beko as we wanted something that would work in a garage. 10+ years old and no bother at all.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/10/2022 11:15

Bosch.

The one Beko I've ever bought stopped working with a dramatic puff of smoke and burning smell whilst I was standing beside it. But apparently, despite being the same model that was implicated in many fires, I was told there weren't any known issues and I must have done something to it - and when the model recall did happen, the serial number wasn't on the list (immediately before and after were), so I'd have been falsely reassured that it was perfectly safe.
