Just a fun post.

Recently doing a huge renovation in our own home and am absolutely mortified at the dust everywhere, I keep having visions of visitors coming to the door and seeing all the dust everywhere, it is thick!

I also currently have a spatula sticking out my down pipe drain as we have just unblocked it and it’s to catch any old leaves/moss until it’s replaced 🤣

I can be quite judgmental and I’m hard on my self when it comes to standards
Things I judge
Dirty kitchen sinks
Dirty washing up sponges 🤮
Overflowing smelly bins
Pet bowls left out that obviously never get cleaned
Dining tables covered in clutter
Pet hair on sofas
Dirty loos
Dirty hand towels

JangolinaPitt · 15/02/2022 04:48

Unless you do a full inspection how can you possibly know how many book there are?

I hate animals roaming -had s horrible evening at a book club the other at when the —ridiculously overindulged— dog jumped up all the time and barked constantly.

Marmelace · 15/02/2022 04:52

Er rugs on top of carpets, a pet hate of mine.

Fascinating. I’m the same but no good reason.

I have three cats, and just one of them might jump on the worktops, but usually she will just sit on the draining board near the window, when I am preparing all the cats meals. staring at all the three bowls of food,
I don't know why some people say things about cat smells, my three don't smell at all. except all warm and fluffy. I don't have cat litter trays either..

The main cat issues are cat hairs in all the places that they sit or sleep, so have to put up with this..

Flowersandbread · 15/02/2022 05:18

A dirty bathroom

booplefloof · 15/02/2022 05:32

The smell of dirty cat litter makes me want to 🤮. I can smell it as soon as the front door is opened, and when I was pregnant, couldn't go inside cat owners homes at all.
Full bins for the same reason.

I don't go into homes of smokers if they smoke indoors.

For me, it's lack of soap and hand towels. I understand that places get into different states at different times of the day so I won't judge but if the basics aren't there for personal hygiene, I can't cope.

In my own (chaotic) home, I cannot bear dirty kitchen worktops, sinks left full of dirty dishes to soak or dirty toilets/sinks.
Sadly my DH is oblivious to all of these things and after 20 years of marriage, still a) does not clean up after himself b) claims he does.

User639710 · 15/02/2022 05:35

Just dirt really if they are fit and able to clean, I don't judge anything like decor, belongings, curtains etc as that is their choice and they are entitled to it

User639710 · 15/02/2022 05:37

Most visitors wouldn't see our books as they are kept upstairs in our library

ItsCanardBruv · 15/02/2022 05:44

Lack of books and mega-clean. I assume you’re a bit bored and lacking in life.

A580Hojas · 15/02/2022 05:46

Astroturf!

Cat litter trays.

Damp/dirty hand towels in the loo.

Minging dish cloths/tea towels.

Rubbish and recycling lying about.

General untidyness and a bit of dust don't phase me at all ... very few people's homes are always ready to be on show.

User639710 · 15/02/2022 05:50

People keep stuff in different places though, we wouldn't have a load of books downstairs collecting dust unless they were used regularly, DH has loads of CDs but keeps them in the garage as he uses one of those large portable players in there for when he is doing stuff so no one will judge us for those as they wouldn't see them

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/02/2022 05:53

My top one is dirty/stained toilets. Just gross.

Bad smells - dirty dog, cat pee, old food, anything really. I have a very strong sense of smell (not quite super sniffer but getting there!) and can't be doing with any of those - but they're made even WORSE if someone has a plug-in air pollutor "freshener" with artificial "scents" to cover the smell. Or uses Neutradol, which I appear to be allergic to (makes my throat close up).

General untidiness is ok, but I do also judge if I have to pick my way across the floor between piles of crap (toys/clothes/shoes/paper/empty packets/plates etc) - I'm far from tidy myself, but, apart from where DS2 has his play area, the floor is clear.

After that I tend to wonder about the people who have show-home standard homes - one of my schoolfriend's home was like this, and her mother was so anal about everything that she wasn't even allowed to leave a book out on her bedside table, it had to go away in the bookcase every night. Too uncomfortable!

SarahJessicaPorker · 15/02/2022 06:08

I love reading and read paper books, but wouldn't judge other people for not having any. That's mad. Maybe they read a kindle. Also, my dh doesn't read and is a hell of a lot smarter and more successful than I am, so I'm questioning the wisdom of reading all the time 🤣

I don't judge mess really, but I don't enjoy sitting in it either. My house is far from perfect ATM as we're working a lot and our youngest is as that age where he just destroys the place.

I make sure it's nice for when people arrive at the house though. Common courtesy I think.

I slightly judge those signs in the bathroom that have guidance on how to use the loo "if it smells, spray it, aim for the bowl, men it isn't as long as you think it is wink wink". And Live, Laugh, Love signs....a teeny bit. Not huge judgement. Oh, "little pickers where big knickers" sign on your fridge. Hate those

SarahJessicaPorker · 15/02/2022 06:09

Wear big knickers*

SusannaQueen · 15/02/2022 06:11

books chosen for their spine cover

If this is a comment on rainbow bookshelves, you'd be surprised how many coloured spines there are. DD wanted to organise our excessive amount of books, I thought they'd mainly be black spines and all those Instagram photos featured specially bought books. But no, apparently not.

Lulu1919 · 15/02/2022 06:14

Dirty homes ...dirty bathrooms and kitchens just a big NO from me and put me off wanting to be in said house

Volterra · 15/02/2022 06:14

I don’t think I do really judge much but I guess I kind of do in a positive way about how comfortable they encourage to make yourself on the sofa.

SusannaQueen · 15/02/2022 06:21

This thread is actually quite reassuring, no matter what your house is like, someone is obviously judging, so it's not worth worrying about.

I try not to judge, my house is a tip. But the only thing that makes me feel uneasy are minimalist children's bedrooms and houses where craft activities are deemed too messy.

blessedbethechocolate · 15/02/2022 06:22

You guys would hate my house. I don't have any books. The kids have them in their bedrooms but I only listen to audiobooks as I'm such a slow reader I get bored. At the moment I do have some for my degree around the place but that's it.

I have a cat who's such a bastard he only ever uses the litter tray the moment a guest comes round and I have a live laugh love picture frame in my living room that I don't really like but the kids gave it to me for the first Mother's Day after we escaped abusive ex so I it means a lot to me.

Caspianberg · 15/02/2022 06:27

Books - most of ours are out of site in cupboards, office, child’s room. I use kindle now for general day to day reading.

Cat litter trays are by bugbear. I don’t really understand why some leave them filthy. We have cats. Ours is cleaned out after every use (luckily they do use rarely now), and hidden away in a wooden box type thing with cat hole under bathroom sink we made so it’s not on view. Some trays look and stink like they haven’t been emptied in weeks.

Super cluttered and dirty kitchen sides. If they are that cluttered, you can’t clean easily, so it’s probably not.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/02/2022 06:27

Just if it's dirty. Unless you're incapacitated and unable to clean, there's no excuse for a dirty house. I'm a single working mum and I manage to keep my house clean, it's really not difficult.

This with fucking bells, cake forks and grapefruit spoons on!!
Volterra · 15/02/2022 06:34

It is a bit of an eye opener as to how judgemental people are. As someone above said, whatever you do someone will judge you.
