Just a fun post.

Recently doing a huge renovation in our own home and am absolutely mortified at the dust everywhere, I keep having visions of visitors coming to the door and seeing all the dust everywhere, it is thick!

I also currently have a spatula sticking out my down pipe drain as we have just unblocked it and it’s to catch any old leaves/moss until it’s replaced 🤣

My sister in law never seems to have enough cups/plates/cutlery. She has a lovely clean home but seems to only have enough cups or plates for those that live in the house. We end up eating our food with kids plates or paper cups and it just seems weird to me. My sister doesn't have a kitchen bin- again has a lovely house- but just has a bin bag on the floor Confused

Hotcuppatea · 14/02/2022 22:06

Those big words that some people have. Like SLEEP on the bedroom wall and EAT on the kitchen window sill.

What are they for? Is it in case you forget what you came into the room for?

Hotcuppatea · 14/02/2022 22:07

Also, dirty toilets.

StartupRepair · 14/02/2022 22:09

I judge people with no books. Anything else I assume they are having a bad day /week/month.

alisoninwonderland · 14/02/2022 22:12

Stale air
Dirty kitchen
Cigarette smoke
Tacky interior design
When there's no toilet brush or bathroom bin or spare toilet roll

Branleuse · 14/02/2022 22:15

I dont really judge

Woahthehorsey · 14/02/2022 22:16

A dirty toilet is pretty much the only thing I judge. I don't like cats on work tops and dirty houses, but my house is filthy currently - Reno project, going on nearly 12 months and likely 12 months more. It's horrific.

not much. Their houses are always nicer!

But possibly, the smell of animals. Whether it's dogs, frogs, hamsters.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/02/2022 22:19

Full litter trays and the general cat wee smell

This terrifies me. We have a very old partially incontinent cat who we have had his whole life. I love him but my god keeping on top of general litter tray plus any accidents drives me insane. The smell fear means I just don't invite anyone around anymore.

We will be replacing all carpets and underlay when he finally leaves this mortal coil.

UserBotLurking9to5 · 14/02/2022 22:19

Frogs? I mean those other green ones. Turtles.

spotcheck · 14/02/2022 22:22

@Bortles

What books they have. Cat litter trays.
Cat litter trays? Where is the cat meant to go?
Rivering · 14/02/2022 22:23

Showhome pristine-ness. I wouldn’t judge as such, but I’d be intensely curious as to how such pristine living gives warm joy and fulfilment to a human. Think American Beauty film, where the husband isn’t even allowed to sit on the sofa because it’s so new wifey wants to keep the wrapper on. Bizarre.

blyn72 · 14/02/2022 22:25

@CatNamedEaster

I reverse-judge, in that I wonder how appalled people would be if they came to my place as it's a pre-renovation tip.Grin
Same here. As long as I am in pleasant company and feel comfortable, I really don't notice anything - except maybe if it is cold. I wouldn't judge them for that though.
crackofdoom · 14/02/2022 22:30

Houses with massive TVs but no books.

declutteringmymind · 14/02/2022 22:30

I think I judge my own house more harshly than I do others' but I guess it's context.

I'd judge someone who obsessively cleans their house and ignores their children as much as someone who's house is filthy because they're too lazy to do a basic clean.

whenwillthemadnessend · 14/02/2022 22:30

Confused as to how you can judge a skirting board?

Bunty55 · 14/02/2022 22:31

@CatNamedEaster

...and we are similar to you. I have two kitchen cupboards without doors and a tap that you have to use pliers to turn on. No way I'm spending money on them before the whole thing is replaced. I don't worry about judgement from others, as long as it's clean.
I'll raise you one kitchen cupboard without a handle, a tap upstairs that has an inhaler wedged under it to stop the drips, a cat flap with no flap because the dog got her head stuck in it and ripped it off so we block with a towel, and many more :)
KimDeals · 14/02/2022 22:33

I judge if there are tv’s in every room (bad) and…worst offender for my big judge-y-pants - wallpaper with writing on it or crap written as wall art … “Laugh often…” type bollox. yikes! Maybe even the term “wall art”!! I just judged myself!!!

BordelDeMerde · 14/02/2022 22:33

@autienotnaughty

Skirting board. Wooden floors. Cups. Toilet. Bath.
You judge people who have skirting boards and/or cups? Confused
ExactlyThat · 14/02/2022 22:33

Dirty toilets.

Dirt in general really. I don’t care about untidiness but I never just pop in, it’s always pre arranged so if your house is filthy when you’re know I’m coming, then you early live like that all of the time and that’s gross.

stevalnamechanger · 14/02/2022 22:36

Dirt . I went to someone's house to do something for them which meant I was hanging around their home all day - the sides were covered in crumbs , food left out .. it was gross .

I wanted to clean it but didn't want them to think I was meddling so didn't 🤣 made me feel very stressed

TwoCoffeesPlease · 14/02/2022 22:39

Lots of shampoo/shower gel bottles littered around the shower area/bath.

“Surface clutter” in the kitchen. Kettle, toaster, set of knives and maybe a coffee machine is all you need out on the side.

“Live Laugh Love” decor

mdinbc · 14/02/2022 22:39

I have been made to feel warm and welcome in some very ordinary homes. One particular friend has never been very well off, and her furniture mismatched and worn, but I love the warm feeling while there.

What does get me is general maintenance that is not fixed. I knew someone that had a bathroom door handle that pulled off in your hand, never latched, It wasn't fixed for 15 years (a relative finally took it in hand). Their back stoop was so wobbly as to be dangerous. I felt uncomfortable going there.

So I guess a house doesn't need to be fancy or new, and I won't judge your decor, but have a chair handy and the kettle on (and a working doorhandle on the loo!)

Aquamarine1029 · 14/02/2022 22:40

Dirty bathrooms, dirty kitchen, grotty floors, foul smells. Makes my skin crawl. I won't stay for long in a house that's filthy.
