Be honest! What things do you judge in other people’s houses?

Just a fun post.

Recently doing a huge renovation in our own home and am absolutely mortified at the dust everywhere, I keep having visions of visitors coming to the door and seeing all the dust everywhere, it is thick!

I also currently have a spatula sticking out my down pipe drain as we have just unblocked it and it’s to catch any old leaves/moss until it’s replaced 🤣

I reverse-judge, in that I wonder how appalled people would be if they came to my place as it's a pre-renovation tip.Grin

HasaDigaEebowai · 14/02/2022 21:13

Only really judge dirt. We once stayed with friends and their house was absolutely disgustingly dirty. It was horrible and there was no need for it.

CatNamedEaster · 14/02/2022 21:14

...and we are similar to you. I have two kitchen cupboards without doors and a tap that you have to use pliers to turn on. No way I'm spending money on them before the whole thing is replaced. I don't worry about judgement from others, as long as it's clean.

dalmatianmad · 14/02/2022 21:14

I'm sure no one would come along and judge you whilst your having work done.

I take people as I find them, some people live in beautiful clean homes (I really enjoy cleaning) and some are happy living in untidy dirty houses. But I would judge someone who let their cat on the kitchen work surfaces, that's just grim.

OkPedro · 14/02/2022 21:16

Yep same as pp, I judge dirt.. a lived in house is always cosy to me. I hate dust but I never seem to notice it in someone else home

Bakewelltart987 · 14/02/2022 21:16

Smells! my friends house its dirty but am a believer of I come to see you not your house but every now and then it stinks like sour milk they are the days I say only popping in quick.

Wartywart · 14/02/2022 21:19

I don't really 'judge' anything. I don't like the smell of dogs, and I don't like unclean crockery, but dust doesn't bother me, nor does untidiness.

DockOTheBay · 14/02/2022 21:21

I would judge but not for something with an obvious cause like dust when you're having an extension.

My house is generally quite a mess but I do judge things which are worse than mine basically

Puffalicious · 14/02/2022 21:22

I'd never judge if someone is getting work done! I judge the smell of animals or cigarette smoke, animal hair everywhere or unnecessary dirt/ filth. I once viewed a beautiful house for sale but it was filthy with cigarette ends in ashtrays everywhere including beside the bed and in the bathroom. There were 3 huge dogs careering around and filthy litter trays in the kitchen. No way was I buying it.Confused

seasunshine22 · 14/02/2022 21:26

Vertical blinds and net curtains

Bouledeneige · 14/02/2022 21:26

Smell of animals or smoke. Poor cooking hygiene (yes I'm talking about you DSis using the same cutting board for cutting up salad as you did for raw chicken).

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/02/2022 21:33

Only if it were really dirty.

I hate cat smells, but wouldn’t especially judge them.

SnowyPetals · 14/02/2022 21:35

I wouldn't say judge exactly, but I dislike a stale smell like the windows are never opened, dirty toilets and stained carpets.

CrunchTime22 · 14/02/2022 21:36

Grubby hand towels.
The fridge
Cats on work surfaces till I got one. Now I get judged.

MerryMarigold · 14/02/2022 21:37

3D words/ letters, lots of white/ cream in a house with kids, lots of gold/ silver/ mirrors, paved over gardens or astroturf, those bows on doors at Christmas (every other house round here), smoke smell, wee smell in toilet (pretty much don't judge dirt except dirty toilets).

I'm such a judgy cow!

notnownora · 14/02/2022 21:39

Post and adverts that are left lying around in the porch or hallway. Someone I know put all the charity collection bags by the front door, presumably thinking they would be taken away - but they never were.

In kitchens smelly plugholes and musty washing up clothes. Also stinky bins that are full to bursting. Recycling that is piled up when the outdoor bin is a few feet away. All these are things I have noticed in otherwise seemingly lovely houses.

Notanewusertool · 14/02/2022 21:40

I only really judge poor hygiene. I don't care if there's piles of stuff everywhere and the door is hanging off the cupboard and the living room floor needs a vacuum or whatever. I absolutely would judge if you cut up some raw meat and then wiped your hands on the tea towel (hence why I avoid MILs at all costs)

Bortles · 14/02/2022 21:42

What books they have. Cat litter trays.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/02/2022 21:43

Nappies in the kitchen bin.

Pinchofnom · 14/02/2022 21:44
  • dirty and cluttered home
  • cats and dogs on tables, worktops etc. just why?
  • pet smells in the house

Just general home hygiene.

Fl0w3ry · 14/02/2022 21:47

Stained or sticky carpets.
Bits of food not cleaned up from kitchen worktops.
Smell of cigarettes.
Rubbish bin overflowing.

Ohdoleavemealone · 14/02/2022 21:48

My house is a mess so I am not in a position to judge others. I only judge if there are takeaway wrappers and beer cans all over the place and it smells of poor hygeine.

autienotnaughty · 14/02/2022 21:53

Skirting board. Wooden floors. Cups. Toilet. Bath.

Barryigdig · 14/02/2022 22:00

Full litter trays and the general cat wee smell

Houses that smell of old chip fat

A while back I visited a house where there was food juice splatted all up the kitchen cupboard and walls as well.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/02/2022 22:02

Carpets that obviously haven't been properly hoovered at the edges for years.

Households that don't take outdoor shoes off when they come in.
