Dirtiest Pyrex dishes ever. Are they salvageable?

OK NO JUDGING AT THE STATE OF THESE PLEASE!!!

I found these languishing at the back of the pan cupboard when I went to put away a lovely new pan and it didn’t fit. Not used for aeons and from an old life really when I was a student-style clueless slob well past the age that I should have known better!!!

This is very old, very thick dried grease-grime, solidified on. I don’t want these dishes now as I have some beautiful colourful Le Creuset stoneware that I am unhealthily obsessed with carefully clean after each use. Clearly I didn’t take care of these in the same way.

If they were in decent condition then I’ll donate them, otherwise it’s landfill and guilt sadly. Is there a way to save these does anyone think? They’re beyond a squirt of oven cleaner and a scrub with a sponge I think.

You need Nancy Birtwistle in your life. She’s very active on Twitter and Instagram and would love a challenge like that…

Ooh Incant wait to see the "after" photos Grin

Are they smoked/brown glass or is it just grease? No judgment! It just shows its been used! Wink

SillyBub · 18/01/2022 21:14

Finally, it's under way! I had The Fear that this would be one of those threads where we never got an update and I simply couldn't take that.

stevalnamechanger · 18/01/2022 21:25

I soak them with fabric softener and water ! Saw it online somewhere and seems to work!

FinallyHere · 18/01/2022 21:27

Pick stuff paste and elbow grease

Buy the oven cleaner that comes with the bag and soak them overnight.

Invest in a glass scraper, a good sponge and the pink stuff. They will look brand new.

ZealAndArdour · 18/01/2022 21:34

You can get a glass scraper from Amazon, comes with spare blades but like razor blades. The inside of my last oven door was in a similar state, but it all just scraped off so easily. The glass scraper is useful to have for other household jobs and getting sticky labels off things.

elelel · 18/01/2022 21:35

Late to the party here but I'm sure you are not supposed to use oven pride on glass, it certainly says not to use it on the glass oven door in case of damage.

LemonViolet · 18/01/2022 21:41

@DobbyTheHouseElk

What about coke. Isn’t that supposed to work miracles?

I had limited success with bio powder when I burnt sausages in a pan.

OMG if coke could shift this it’d be lethal!!!

Well if that doesn’t work, when my oven racks are looking a bit like that, I shove them in the dishwasher when I’m running a dishwasher cleaner through it on a hot cycle.
They come up sparkling, with just a slight rub on a few stuck bits needed.

CeilingWax · 18/01/2022 21:48

I am v late to this but I use eco friendly Bio D All Purpose concentrated cleaner and the stainless steel kitchen scrubber tangly things. Even without the cleaner the scrubber does a good job - don’t rub too hard - but the Bio D stuff is INCREDIBLE!

Works miracles on ovens

Good luck!

I am tackling a cast iron pan atm, that was THICK with burnt on god alone knows what.

It was mine years ago, I pinched it from a shared flat in Kilburn, I loved that pan, only my mother said she would like it and she subscribes to the NEVER EVER, like EVER wash a cast iron pan and it was minging.

I have dishwasher tabbed it, and scrubbed it, used one of those swirly metal pouffy scrubbers that got it about half way. I bought the BBQ version of the oven cleaner and sat the lot in the garden for two day and that helped.

But really and truly, it is only the actual scrubbing that is helping.....I bought a little wire brush for the drill and am going to give that a go next. There is a very determined bit of blackened filth that is resistant, but i will not be defeated.

I do wish I had taken photos though.

Good luck with your pyrex OP!

CrabbyAggie · 18/01/2022 22:07

The Pink Stuff in a tub (cream cleaner) is amazing for getting rid of really baked on grease stains on my ceramic trays. I think it’s a quid in Home Bargains. Just scrub with a normal scrubber.

longtompot · 18/01/2022 22:13

I was going to suggest Oven Pride too. Another suggestion would be Elbow Grease degreaser. It seems to work wonders on some things.

liveforsummer · 19/01/2022 07:02

Happy to be proved wrong but imo those handles are never going to be clean enough to actually be able to donate 😬

mugglenutmeg · 19/01/2022 07:06

I'm invested now

*patiently waiting till Thursday

rrhuth · 19/01/2022 07:10

I have cleaned a horribly greasy oven door with bicarb and vinegar, so I would sprinkle with bicarb and then pour on vinegar and see how that went.

I hope you post an after picture, I love a before and after thread Smile
