Dirtiest Pyrex dishes ever. Are they salvageable?

OK NO JUDGING AT THE STATE OF THESE PLEASE!!!

I found these languishing at the back of the pan cupboard when I went to put away a lovely new pan and it didn’t fit. Not used for aeons and from an old life really when I was a student-style clueless slob well past the age that I should have known better!!!

This is very old, very thick dried grease-grime, solidified on. I don’t want these dishes now as I have some beautiful colourful Le Creuset stoneware that I am unhealthily obsessed with carefully clean after each use. Clearly I didn’t take care of these in the same way.

If they were in decent condition then I’ll donate them, otherwise it’s landfill and guilt sadly. Is there a way to save these does anyone think? They’re beyond a squirt of oven cleaner and a scrub with a sponge I think.

Watching. To see results

spotcheck · 16/01/2022 22:13

@ApolloandDaphne

I have no advice. I am just here for the after pictures!
Me too😉
SpunBodgeSquarepants · 16/01/2022 22:22

White vinegar + bicarb I reckon

NoToLandfill · 16/01/2022 22:38

Maybe an oven cleaner service thing would work? They have big plans of horrendous chemicals that clean ovens so I reckon it would clean those.

YesThisIsMe · 16/01/2022 23:04

A new Pyrex roaster costs less than a tenner. It's barely cost effective to get a can of Mr Muscle, let alone a professional cleaner.

Hohofortherobbers · 16/01/2022 23:11

Shamelessly place marking for follow up pictures. Good luck op

CatherinedeBourgh · 16/01/2022 23:15

Another vote fo r vinegar and bicarb.

ChicCroissant · 16/01/2022 23:43

Soda crystals and boiling water are my go-to for greasy pans, but I agree that Elbow Grease spray is marvellous and dirt cheap

I've bought some Astonish oven cleaner paste with orange oil, not tried it yet (oven is awful) but you don't have to wear gloves with it. Also have Pink Stuff and Barkeepers Friend, as well as a hob scraper for my oven door (brilliant, cleans it in seconds). I may have found my people [grin}

I'm so excited for the reveal!

BDavis · 17/01/2022 02:56

@isthismylifenow

On a group I am on, people are leaving their dirty oven racks on the grass overnight, and then in the morning they are clean!

I don't know what magic happens in the grass as night (I reckon it's the neighbours dog come over for a good lick or something), but you could give that a try.

I will put a disclaimer in here though, that I am such a slattern that I let my Labrador lick out the scraps from a pyrex dish once, after he had left not a trace, he excitedly began carrying the dish around the kitchen. He dropped the dish and it shattered all over the floor. It was fairly clean though, before it went into a thousand pieces.

So I don't really recommend this method, but perhaps the magic grass is worth a shit. If you don't have a Labrador, that is....

@isthismylifenow 🤣 I’m on the same group and I’m glad it’s not just me that thought there must be some kind of animal involvement with the grass thing 🤣

@LemonViolet OP - I hope you know what you’ve done here 🤣 it’s almost 3am, I have a very unsettled 14m old who keeps waking and I’ve finally just managed to get back down 😴 and now I can’t get back to sleep for thinking about your bloody Pyrex 🤣🤣 I absolutely LOVE a satisfying cleaning project. I need to know how these turn out 🤣

Giggorata · 17/01/2022 02:58

I've just ordered the minky scraper, thank you! (Even though the auto correct decided it was a kinky scraper)

Now I'm also just waiting for the reveal, along with a sort of journal of methods used.

Ok. (Lack of) progress update. Rubbish start that I forgot both to put the dishes into soak last night as shift ran late, and forgot to bring home any bio washing powder from work (don’t use it at home but figured I could filch some in a baggie). So no progress yet. I’m going to walk the dogs and pick some up in a bit and then make a start Smile.

NB Make the bio powder into a paste for best results.

Good luck. We need to see this!!!

whenwillthemadnessend · 17/01/2022 11:34

Excited!

GranolaHolmes · 17/01/2022 11:43

I'd just bin and move on.

But also following to see results Grin

Madcats · 17/01/2022 13:51

How is it going OP? If the Bio powder doesn't work, this is what I now use to clean my oven shelves (think I have seen it in several supermarkets):

thelegohooverer · 17/01/2022 15:15

Not sure if it’s been suggested but stewed rhubarb does a fantastic job of cleaning pots. I’ve no idea if it would work on Pyrex. And it’s not in season for another month so you might not want to wait that long.

eagerlywaitingfor · 17/01/2022 15:18

Oh lordy Grin

They are quite something, aren't they?
I have some metal pans in the same state but at least they aren't supposed to be see-through

LemonViolet · 18/01/2022 20:36

Ok. I kept not getting round to it the last few days (Thankyou possibly-ADHD brain). Although I have done a lot of things, just not this thing.

I caved in the supermarket earlier

They’ve just gone in

It says leave 4 hours, preferably overnight….d’you reckon they’ll be ok until Thursday? I have a very long work day tomorrow

Bio laundry liquid soak overnight then the dishwasher tab trick

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/01/2022 20:44

What about coke. Isn’t that supposed to work miracles?

I had limited success with bio powder when I burnt sausages in a pan.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 18/01/2022 20:48

I would leave them as long as possible tbh. Though I’d like an update before then Grin

Gazelda · 18/01/2022 20:55

I don't think it could do any harm to leave them until Thursday.
