The idea is to get rid of 1 item on the 1st of the month, 2 on the 2nd, 3 on the 3rd etc. I hopped on the way of a thread in December but am here to start afresh if anyone want to join in. I might do this in reverse though, starting with 31 today and working back to 1, only because DC are going to their dad's tomorrow 2 fir days so I will have the time to maje a good start at it.

I aim to post updates daily!

Right. Tomorrow I’m doing under the bed and living room. I’ve written it down so it must happen.

namechange5575 · 05/01/2022 22:34

Decluttering fail here today, but I think it's too much to manage in my working days, alongside my other new year resets of low carbing, daily yoga, running and early nights. So I'm going to reframe and declutter on my non work days (weekends and Monday and Tuesday).

Ninkanink · 05/01/2022 22:56

That does sound like an awful lot! Your idea to adapt it sounds great.

I never do NY resolutions - not doing this because it’s January, I just happened to come upon the idea last month and decided to skip December because I wanted to chill through the season. I think I’ll probably continue de-cluttering in Feb and March as well.

AgathaMystery · 06/01/2022 08:38

Old makeup and skin care stuff gone this morning whilst I was in the bathroom with DC. Maybe a dozen items? Got people coming over tomorrow so tree must go today & living room needs sorting. Also the porch.

I’m never getting to under the bed am I?!

Ninkanink · 06/01/2022 10:08

6:

1 fish platter - charity shop

5 books - charity shop

Nordicmom · 06/01/2022 11:50

Day 6 :

  • 3 ballpoint pens that came with presents to charity
  • 1 set of hand creams to charity / food bank
  • 1 tin from toffees to recycling
  • 1 broken lamp to dump
ImFree2doasiwant · 06/01/2022 13:13

@namechange5575 I struggle to focus on multiple things, my health kick is flsufferibg due to the declutter but I'm focusing on this for now, it really lifts my mind!

1 magazine
3 picture frames
Giant scented candle

wejammin · 06/01/2022 15:28

Day 5
1- old car seat collected
2- kids crocs sold on eBay and posted
3- baby car mirror collected
4- kids trousers to chazza
5- kids 'poo emoji' table tennis bats to chazza

Day 6
1 - kids hat sold and posted
2- kids jumper to chazza
3- kids gardening overalls to chazza
4,5,6 - 3 teddies to chazza

I did buy 3 new jumpers in the shop next to the chazz though 🤦🏻‍♀️ it's an amazing seconds/end of line shop and there was a sale on so I got 3 jumpers for £9, from M&S and next.

I will remember not to take my purse with me when taking donations out of the house!!

TeacupDrama · 06/01/2022 15:28

12 items of costume jewellery to chairty small bundle of craft items in bin( counted as 3) together with 6 hello kitty buttons a book mark and 3 packets of seeds total 25

AgathaMystery · 06/01/2022 15:37

Mirror, hockey bag, fan - into skip
Hockey kit to school uniform shop

Going slowly today but work was overwhelming. Have people over tomorrow pm and so much to do before cleaner arrives at 0800. First world probs I know.

Ninkanink · 06/01/2022 16:06

@wejammin nothing wrong with a bargain! - I’m keeping purchases neutral this month by making sure to operate to a strict one in-one out rule (any item can be cleared out for this, doesn’t have to be like for like).

CoffeeChocolateWine · 06/01/2022 16:30

Cleared out the bathroom cabinet and drawer today and got rid of 5 out of date medicines and 2 old flannels. Also had a bit of a go in my girls’ room…several toy figures, old notebooks, tatty hair bobbles, broken hair clips, bent hair grips and other bits gone 😊

CherryAndAlmond · 06/01/2022 17:36

Thanks for letting me join!

Yesterday I ditched: a Christmas elf, some old plant labels, two boxes of Top Trumps, a candle holder, two Calpol syringes, some little clay models my daughter made, a broken walkie talkie, a wrecked paint palette. Happy with that.
Ten more tonight.

Eileen101 · 06/01/2022 18:13

I completely forgot to record yesterday's, although I like the accountability of this!

  1. Another candle, partly burned, but not getting any use.
  2. A random old Amazon box into the recycling.
  3. Photo frame X 2
  4. A box of green tea from a phase I went through Grin
  5. An old book that both DC have grown out of into the charity bag.

Today:

  1. Another candle 🤦🏼‍♀️ partly burned but not getting used. I'm sure they're all gone now.
  2. Baby teether X 2 - no idea why they ended up in a box of baby toys to be saved.
  3. DDs night time water sippy cup - had to be thrown away because she's bodged her finger through the spout and broken it until it leaked all over me... I was going to replace it but think I'll try her with her existing munchkin 360 cup for (1) less clutter and (2) teeth benefits.
  4. An old coat if DSs into the charity shop bag.
  5. 2 old toys that aren't getting used. They're in the charity bag but also on vinted in the meantime to see there's any interest.
  6. I will be clearing out my socks and tights drawer when the kids are asleep. I WFH permanently so I don't need half a drawer full of tights, just a few pairs for occasional office days and even fewer smart office days.
Eileen101 · 06/01/2022 18:17

Oh and I also listed a bunch of DDs outgrown clothes on vinted during my lunch break so hopefully that will result in some decluttering by sales Grin

BeefSupreme · 06/01/2022 18:42

Got ahead of myself and decluttered 45 items of baby clothes. Will take it all to charity bin tomorrow.

Total number of items decluttered: 60

AgathaMystery · 06/01/2022 19:10

Tonight I did the porch (barbies, another fan, more hockey kit, a PCR monitor and a bike wheel) & DC bedroom (tonnes of Xmas packaging, wrecked gift bags) & then managed to take the tree down & also put away a metric ton of laundry and clear out 12 wardrobe items (dresses) at the same time.

Phew.

LadyMacnet · 06/01/2022 20:01

Day 6

  1. Annoying novelty mug with stupid lid
  2. Tiny wooden spoon for mustard lurking at the back of the drawer and never used.
  3. Over large and hard to use plastic spatula
  4. Calpol spoon. One of DCs is at uni and the other is a teen. I don’t there’s going to be much call for Calpol! Grin
  5. Guard for long since broken food processor blade
  6. Sheet of bubble wrap
