The idea is to get rid of 1 item on the 1st of the month, 2 on the 2nd, 3 on the 3rd etc. I hopped on the way of a thread in December but am here to start afresh if anyone want to join in. I might do this in reverse though, starting with 31 today and working back to 1, only because DC are going to their dad's tomorrow 2 fir days so I will have the time to maje a good start at it.

I aim to post updates daily!

Sigh...finding this a little bit frustrating at the moment...I didn’t do any more beyond the 10 items yesterday, which left an 18-item backlog, plus today’s 12 is now a 30-item backlog!! Will try hard to catch up this evening.

Well done to those of you who’ve kept on top of it! And congratulations to those who are almost at completely de-cluttered stage.🌷

I can’t wait to have things properly organised in this house - I am an ‘everything in its place’ kind of woman and clutter/disorganisation really gets me down.

Hope you all have a good evening. @AgathaMystery that’s amazing, a 3 hour nap! Must’ve needed it!

SuperDiaperBaby · 12/01/2022 17:52

An early today so already managed to declutter my 20 items for the day. Tatty clothes from a pile on the floor for clothes bank (13) broken charging leads and headphones from same pile to electrical recycling bin (5) a bedspread I love but is just too small for the bed for charity and a pile of papers from an exam a year ago which have been on the floor since. Big in though - ordered a chest of drawers in the sale for the room to stop the floor being used......

AgathaMystery · 12/01/2022 19:02

Mental day at work so PC monitor has gone. It’s not much but it’s something. Might ditch the slow cooker too.

LadyMacnet · 12/01/2022 19:18

Day 12
1 worn out thermal tights

  1. Used up shower oil from M&S beauty advent calendar
3 - 7 five old books culled from DS’ bookcase 8 clutch of paperwork and docs to shred
  1. Cat brush - have a better one
10. Shelf bracket 11. Packaging for mobile phone screen protector 12. Old tea towel
wejammin · 12/01/2022 19:21

Not feeling at all productive today but counting really does help - it's nice to be able to stop rather than thinking 'this will never end'

11
1 pair socks with hole
2 old holey flannel
3 deodorant that gave me a rash
4 - 6 books to charity
7 - 8 painting bibs x 2 to charity
9 - 11 dressing up stuff to charity

12
1- 5 dressing up stuff to charity
6-10 books to charity
11 - old pack of slime
12 - pile of forgotten paper aeroplanes

ImFree2doasiwant · 12/01/2022 19:30

Great progress! I have done a few but need to carry on once the DC are in bed.

I have, though, handed over the decluttered kids books to school this morning, and someone collected the drum kit. Woop!

Good work everyone!

Day 12: haven't been keeping count so will tot up as I go along:

  1. A dress from DDs wardrobe that's in the size she's just growing out of. It was a hand me down, but she's had so much in this size that it's not been worn. It's gone in the bag for a friend, who will be having that size from us for her DD. So I'm counting this as decluttered, although it's now in a bag in the loft.
  2. A bundle of DS' pants ready to go to nursery for the spares box.
  3. A random carry case from a toy set that DS had, but loads of the bits had broken (and already binned). They were fighting over it a while ago so it went on top of the bookcase and everyone had forgotten about it...
  4. A noisy book in the charity bag.
  5. Chocs boxes X 2. How many empty tubs?!
  6. Empty cardboard box. I saved it ages ago because it looked really useful Blush
  7. One of DS' messy church crafts. He wasn't bothered by it. The one he was really pleased with, I've put proudly on display.
  8. A pair of DS' holey socks.
  9. A baby outfit sold, packed up and ready to post.
10. An old open moisturiser. 11. A bundle of manky hair bobbles 12. An eyeliner. I rarely even wear make up and never eye liner. Why I even have one, I don't know.
CherryAndAlmond · 12/01/2022 21:20

Today's been mad at work so I haven't managed to do much, but added up it's still way more than ten things. Normally I'd be strict and treat the grouped items as one item, but not today.

Bits of ribbon, old gift tags, empty plastic packets (all from my gift wrap drawer)
A cardboard box from a flower press
An ancient dried out face painting kit
Bunting
A broken plastic box
3 old drawings by DD (not sentimental ones)
Paperwork from my old job
5 books - in car for charity shop.

ImFree2doasiwant · 12/01/2022 21:41

Day 13 - 19
1 in hand
5 x DC coats listed last night and SOLD
2 x kids hangers
1 x body butter used up.
So that's 10. I have listed 2 large bundles of clothes to sell but I'm inclined to count those when they actually go. So I have 9 to find...

OP posts:
ImFree2doasiwant · 12/01/2022 22:16

I've had a quick rummage in the kitchen. There's a soacecwhere an appliance used to be that's become a dumping ground. 9 items removed and recycled (stuff like large plastic bottles, cardboard tubes etc for crafting Hmm )

LadyMacnet · 13/01/2022 06:56

Well done everyone - reading what is on everyone’s lists is definitely useful for ideas of things to check and declutter. I found these things last night:

Day 13

Day 13

  1. Scruffy old scarf
  2. Foam ear plugs that don’t fit my ears
  3. Bra
  4. Bra
  5. Two buttons
  6. Trainer liner socks
  7. Trainer liner socks
  8. Worn out belt
  9. Lanyard
10. Darren Shan book 11. DVD “Spy Kids” 12. DVD “Spy Kids 2” 13. Old apron
wejammin · 13/01/2022 10:00

@imfree2doasiwant where are you listing kids stuff? I'm using eBay but it's fairly slow at the moment. Not sure if I should use vinted or FB instead. I don't like using multiple platforms as I get myself all muddled!!

Nordicmom · 13/01/2022 10:03

Day 13

  • 11 Nintendo DS games ,we decided to get rid of this one as well as the Xbox 360 since there are two Nintendo Switches in the house and we got DD an IPod Touch to listen to music etc with in the car and while out and about since she’s not allowed a phone for a few more years which her big brother has
  • 1 bin bag full of mostly paper etc from mainly DD desk drawers which I’ve now completely cleaned
  • 1 old credit card
AgathaMystery · 13/01/2022 11:16

Morning all! Mental 2 days with work & today is worse. Anyway…

Yesterday was the PC monitor & a scarf. Today is going to be some excess packaging & another scarf.

Going to do my clothes drawers tonight I think. I have kept some stuff for sentimental value. No need.

Would anyone like some size 14 Ralph Lauren PJ? One pair Pink stripe and one pair blue stripe. Happy to post.

CherryAndAlmond · 13/01/2022 18:11

I managed to get into the attic eaves during my lunch break...

A metal screw for securing the fake Xmas tree to the base (tree has gone)
2 offcuts of carpet
An old sparkly heart decoration (difficult one as it was given to me by a friend who died - I said a little goodbye to it)
Some spare tiles
A reptile Thermometer
A cardboard box - I reorganised the loft boxes

In the kitchen...
4 bottles of out of date vitamins
Decanted 2 jars of marmite into 1
Decanted 2 bottles of Golden Syrup into 1.

SuperDiaperBaby · 13/01/2022 19:55

Still trying to stick to the target. It was cold here this morning - on my way out I found 9 items of warm clothing to drop to the charity shop. This evening I binned 6 homemade craft items - enjoyed making them not owning them. Set aside 3 old dressing up outfits for charity and a flag. 19 items.

ImFree2doasiwant · 13/01/2022 20:49

@wejammin I listed them on Facebook, cheap. Sold 1 boys bundle today, only £10 but better than nothing!

ImFree2doasiwant · 13/01/2022 20:53

1 Hoover instructions recycle
1 door bell bin
2 old sponges bin
1 piece packaging. Recycle
1 broken cupboard child lock bin
2 old towels bin
7 items kids clothes sold
1 car seat given away

Total 343

Eileen101 · 13/01/2022 21:18

Day 13 failure here:

  1. Manky car wash sponge
  2. Bundle of medicine spoons in the recycling

11 to carry over to tomorrow...

It's been a busy work day and evening so I'm going to bed instead Grin

AgathaMystery · 13/01/2022 21:22

Utter failure here. Got called in to work for an emergency so zero clearing done. Tomorrow I’m chucking out a bit of broken furniture and some old packaging.

ImFree2doasiwant · 13/01/2022 21:41

@CherryAndAlmond I think you win for the most obscure item so far!

I've been looking at some photos a few years ago, abd I'm shocked to see how little mess there was in the house. There was a LOT of ExH clutter/hoard, but much less mess if that makes sense. That said DC were tiny so not so much stuff for them. ExH was very regimented in his clutter. Neat piles

OP posts:
Nordicmom · 14/01/2022 09:34

Day 14:

  • 2 Wii games
  • 1 PS 4 game all to charity shop
  • 1 opened packet of Christmas napkins to bin
  • 1 dog poo bag holder to charity
  • 8 broken Christmas tree ornaments to bin
  • 1 unused lip balm I don’t like the smell of to charity
AgathaMystery · 14/01/2022 13:45

School called so I’ve had to collect DC Sad so. Little. Progress.

ImFree2doasiwant · 14/01/2022 16:19

I got to school and was told that DS2 had had an accident "you can go through to the toilet..." gee thanks.

1 pair of DC pants in the bin. Does that count?
