How strict are you about what does and doesn't go in the dishwasher?

For instance - miscellaneous toys and plastic items that you don't know are BPA free / dishwasher safe.

May have flipped out at DH for putting garden pegs in the dishwasher for the 1,000th time in spite of asking him not to. They are cheap, nasty plastic things and definitely not BPA free. MIL now thinks we need to ditch the baby bottles that were washed in the dishwasher in the same load though, in case the chemicals from the pegs have leached onto it?!

I will probably just rewash them and hope DH finally listens, but got me wondering, how strict are you about what does/ doesn't go in? Any bizarre things you or family members wash in the dishwasher, or are you strictly "dishwasher safe symbol only"?

The washing machine powder/conditioner dispenser drawer
Dust pan & brush
Le Creuset, cast iron stuff and all baking trays, grill pan
wooden spoons
gas hob racks and those little round metal disc things
All the plastic food containers
those clear makeup storage holders...all go in, however I don't put household bits in with crockery/cutlery.
If I had a pet, their dishes would go in too Grin

Your garden pegs are not going to contaminate the bottles.

I have plastic pegs, which are effectively clips. Why buy something else? Your DH sounds remarkably sane.

Pretty much everything except crystal glasses and my wooden chopping board - that gets boiling water poured over it regularly.
I haven’t had any disasters yet!

Everything goes in. Crystal glasses, pans, knives, wooden spoons. Oven racks, the bbq rack from outdoors. Everything.

Why so pegs mean your bottles won't be clean? I can't imagine the BPA will hang around

Everything goes in including a hand painted glass a friend gave me. It came out clear!

buddylicious · 01/02/2022 05:16

I also put the shelves and drawers from the fridge in the dishwasher!

I've got loads of things I don't put in. I like things to last ... can't stand the thought of landfill .. so we do a mixtire of washing up by hand and dishwasher.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 01/02/2022 19:35

Everything. Except toilet brushes.
I'm yet to try cooking a chicken but one day...

BertieBotts · 03/02/2022 10:02

I've literally never thought about BPA in the dishwasher.

A580Hojas · 03/02/2022 20:03

I don't know what BPA is.

HelloKeith · 03/02/2022 20:16

Everything. If it doesn't survive then that is the way.
Not toilet brush but bins, cat bowls, even those Ikea clips. Not at the same time as everything else.

My Japanese kitchen knives do not ever go in the dishwasher, but most other equipment is bought as dishwasher-safe. The cut crystal glasses don't go in but are rarely used as a result.
