Diagnosed adhd. Medicated (hooray!). But no amount of medication can help me do anything when my dc and dh are in the house.

Dc are teens BTW Blush

I work 4 days a week, term time only. On Fridays, I get shit done. Dh is also term time only. By the end of the summer holidays, the house us destroyed. Its just really hard to explain how bad it is.

Dh works really hard to keep on top of it but I'm just so messy that its an impossible task.

Today is my first Friday to myself for 8 weeks. I am so excited. Its going to take weeks to get this place straight but once it is, I'm getting a cleaner.

Thanks for the Slob Comes Clean rec! I think I’m going to try and make a schedule to keep on top of things so it’s not always such a mammoth task.

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 01/12/2021 20:58

Slob comes clean podcast is weirdly addictive! Feel like I've been doing well with keeping up with dishes, sweeping etc, plus using keep note to keep a record so I know what I've achieved and when I last changed towels etc. But broke arm at the weekend and struggling with how much slower it's made me, not being able to drive to donate things etc

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/12/2021 09:10

morning all

we have friends coming tomorrow to stay the night.
they have lots of kids like we do and as the kids sleep downstairs they need floorspace.
which is currently covered in boxes - the leftovers I haven't finished from my earlier decluttering effort...

there's no motivation like a ticking clock so let the panic tidying begin!🤣

Just marking my place here with my people!

BertieBotts · 02/12/2021 14:45

I really like the app Tody for scheduling things. Regularly is also good, that works in the same way but Tody is more visual.

Oh no crimson that sounds so frustrating!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/12/2021 22:55

of course I left sorting clothes of my youngest for tomorrow...which is the very thing I wanted to avoid.

managed to sort big freezer &part of small freezer, organised parcel & shopping bags, sorted clothes for DS5 (just school trousers left, I only saw the box after he went to bed), checked measurements to see whether free wardrobe offered will fit (it will) & organised pick up for Sat, done dishwashers and cooked dinner almost on time.
Even had time to soak in the hot tub & remembered to do my Spanish lesson.

I have just finished sorting DS6's trousers & boxed up everything that's either too big (for loft) or too small (for friend's son visiting tomorrow) and also manged to put shorts, jumpers, t-shirts, underwear in separate piles... but ran out of time for him to try most things on.
Typical🤣

He'll have to whizz through the t-shirts tomorrow before school and eliminate anything he doesn't like (I can check sizes) then we'll have to do everything else quickly once he is back.
Why can't I ever do things without the overwhelming time pressure?!
(well, I know why...urgh)

Restarting Team Tomm didn't work GrinBlush but listening to A Slob Comes Clean, her daily stuff is similar to the Team Tomm level 1 stuff and Dana's explanation makes so much sense to how my brain works, so I've managed to try and do the level 1 stuff and do the dishes. It's helping. Also it was bin day yesterday and it was chokka full.

My random black Friday impulse purchase was a window vacuum. The windows and mirrors are now immaculate. The rest of the house..... Grin

I’m in the midst of Christmas overwhelm. Half decorated, boxes everywhere, and lots of other jobs neglected.

This is always the hard part for me- pushing through to the end and getting the decorating finished and the boxes tidied away. I’ve had a lot of interruptions (and another this morning) so I can’t get my flow state on. And the longer it drags on the more likely my slob vision is to kick in!

I’m going to think about how I pack them away in January so I can take a box and do a bit at a time instead of making a huge mess.

LoganRoy · 04/12/2021 20:44

Does any one have any app recommendations? For organising / cleaning / scheduling etc?

thelegohooverer · 05/12/2021 09:03

@LoganRoy there’s a few mentioned over on this thread

LoganRoy · 05/12/2021 16:22

@thelegohooverer thank you!

BertieBotts · 05/12/2021 16:28

Tody and Regularly ar apps I have used.

GrrrlPwr · 08/12/2021 22:48

Hello my people!!!!
Omg I'm reading the whole thread. Up to October. You wonderful women. Will post again when I'm caught up

MrsWombat · 09/12/2021 06:55

So I've cleared some space doom boxes in the living room ready for more toys and a Christmas tree.

petal2019 · 10/12/2021 06:12

My goodness, reading this thread is a complete revelation!! There are evidently loads of people out there with similar struggles to me! I have not been diagnosed with anything but I often wonder about my inability to get rid of stuff and my inability to remain tidy and consistently organised. Being consistent about anything is definitely a problem.
I have just moved house and now 2 weeks after arriving I have still not unpacked... we are living surrounded by a chaos of boxes. SO, I have decided today is the day to really start unpacking and sorting it all out. I am going to follow all your suggestions regarding pod casts, to inspire me as I go. I really appreciate these and look forward to reading everyone else posts as I go along! I think I am going to start in the bathroom!

petal2019 · 10/12/2021 06:15

Hi @ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba! I really appreciate your photo of your room... mine looks very similar just now. Did you manage to sort it...give me hope!!

petal2019 · 10/12/2021 06:16

Im going to try the Slob Comes Clean... sounds interesting!

petal2019 · 10/12/2021 06:27

Just trying slob comes clean... the start podcast... not too helpful yet. which ones do other people like?
So done the bathroom.... that was easy but now the kitchen is more of a challenge.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/12/2021 08:36

@petal2019

not fully, but I did manage to sort about 80% of the clothes.

petal2019 · 10/12/2021 10:21

Hi @ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba! Well that is huge! Im hoping to manage to make myself get on top of the contents of our move today!! Trouble is Im not feeling that well but hoping to do it in little chunks. So Ill aim for your 80% or even 50% would be pretty good!

BertieBotts · 10/12/2021 10:40

I'm on Podcast 8 which I think gives tips for how to do a quick rescue-clean. But honestly I mainly use them for company while cleaning rather than tips.

Useful tips I've found so far are to just put stuff away rather than putting it in endless piles in the hope of "efficiency". And working out what your ideal amount of stuff that you can cope with is and sticking to that.

Who said doom box?? I joined a ND cleaning support group on FB and they use that term but I'd never heard it anywhere else. I like it! (Didn't organise, only moved).

HereticFanjo · 10/12/2021 10:50

I keep putting off going for diagnosis because paperwork. I just wish I could get in a professional declutter person to help me get rid of stuff.

thelegohooverer · 10/12/2021 13:58

@petal2019 some of her most recent podcasts have been about her own house move so you might find them more relevant.

Does anyone listen to the Tracy Otsuka podcasts? I was listening to her interview with Lisa Woodruff (149) and Lisa was describing the process of teaching her neuro diverse dc to organise their rooms and why she never made them do chores. I’m feeling so much lighter now!

@HereticFanjo I hear ya!

thelegohooverer · 10/12/2021 14:01

@petal2019 you might find it more beneficial to listen to one of Dana’s interviews which tend to give more of an overview of the strategies.

Myadhdusername · 10/12/2021 23:46

How is everyone on this thread getting on with the pre-Christmas house prep that we seem conditioned to do?

I have to admit I’m majorly struggling at the moment. My house is a disaster zone.

My advent calendar has individually wrapped chocolates inside and I keep finding the wrappers on the floor. I am like a toddler just opening my treat and throwing the wrapping onto the floor? Who does that? I am so angry with who I am right now and it can never be fixed.
