How do you wash the cloth you clean the loo with?

I clean the seat and rim with a cloth. But then what do you do with that? It feels wrong to chuck it in with tea towels but then washing it on its own also feels wasteful. I don’t really want to use disposables as I’m trying to cut down on single use items. What’s the answer?

Into bucket of boiling water with disinfectant, then in with the main wash. Fresh in my mind because I’ve just done it!

Tigersteakpie · 29/08/2021 23:03

Oh wow, I literally just put it straight into the machine and wash it with everything else.... it's all getting cleaned, no? It can go in with the kids skid marks pants and food covered tee shirts.

GuckGuckDoose · 29/08/2021 23:04

In with other cloths and towels, but washed at 60deg so highly unlikely to be anything hanging around on any of it afterwards…

MountainAshley · 29/08/2021 23:05

Hang it out on the line because the sun will bleach it enough, then pop it back in the drawer with the other dishcloths.

NigellaSeed · 29/08/2021 23:07

I wash my toilet with spray and toilet paper so I flush it away after.

I use cloths for sink and bath/shower (they go in my bathroom bucket to be washed separate)

Ironmanrocks · 29/08/2021 23:07

I clean the loo and seat with a spray and wipe it off with loo paper. Then I flush it. Cloth for everything else, in with the wash.

Same, I chuck it in with other tea towels/bedding that are on a hot wash, if things are clean they’re clean
legalseagull · 29/08/2021 23:08

Just use toilet paper and spray surely?

GiantCheeseMonster · 29/08/2021 23:09

Hmm, interesting. I have done the loo roll thing but I never feel you can get it as clean as with a good rub with a cloth. Maybe I’m overthinking it though!

Only on MN do people actually worry about this. I've read about people not washing their knickers with tea towels lest bum germs get on their spoons

TheTeenageYears · 29/08/2021 23:12

I thoroughly spray the whole of the toilet with cleaner and use toilet roll to wipe so it can be flushed away.

MilkywayMonarch22 · 29/08/2021 23:16

The toilet is the only place is use antibacterial wipes in the house (Dettol style ones) so I can throw em after

AfterSchoolWorry · 29/08/2021 23:17

I use disposable wipes now. But I used to bin the cloth before that.

Hercisback · 29/08/2021 23:18

Most toilets have less bacteria than a kitchen surface. Shove the cloths in with a wash and dry in the sunlight.

AliMonkey · 29/08/2021 23:19

I can see the toilet roll would work with seat and rim but don’t you also do below the water line and it won’t work there? I’m afraid it’s the one thing I use disposable j cloths for unless I’m about to put on a suitable wash as otherwise I don’t want the cloth hanging around dirty but is too wet anyway to put into basket with other dirty washing.

DotBall · 29/08/2021 23:30

Feel sorry for whoever invented the bog brush. Bet they didn’t imagine anyone choosing to get their hand in when something on a stick could do the job for you.

Augusta1 · 29/08/2021 23:31

I use spray and toilet paper for the seat, under the seat and rim, then use the toilet brush to give everything else a good scrub.

Queenoftheashes · 29/08/2021 23:32

Do people actually stick their hand in the bog?

SeaShoreGalore · 29/08/2021 23:32

I don't see how what's on the cloth would be any worse than what might be on the gusset of your pants, so I don't see any harm in chucking it in the machine.

Tigerstigers · 29/08/2021 23:35

Yeah, in reply to above comment, surely that's what your toilet brush is for? You saying you genuinely delve your hand and a cloth into the toilet bowl and swish it round in the water? What exactly are you "cleaning"? That's just unnecessary and gross. Bit of toilet duck/bleach round the rim of the bowl, leave it to do its work, then scrub it with the brush surely? For the seat, I use antibac spray and toilet paper so I can just flush it straight away.

Breadpapercone · 29/08/2021 23:35

Just chuck it in the washing machine

ToffeeForEveryone · 29/08/2021 23:40

When I'm finished cleaning, fill the sink with hot water and a bit of bleach and leave it to soak for 30 mins. Rinse everything out then put the cloth in with the other washing.

Hercisback · 29/08/2021 23:40

People put their hand in the bowl?

I just use the brush and some bleach.

Every day is an education on MN.

Right? This breed of people only seems to exist on Mumsnet Confused
Enough4me · 29/08/2021 23:44

I use lots of spray and toilet tissue, why have e.coli infected cloths in the wash Confused
