Well, here we are embarking upon part 6 of our epic journey of sorting out our homes.

We are a varied group of likeminded householders that are leading somewhat challenging lives; be that living with too much 'stuff' that we find difficult to deal with, houses that are falling apart (mine included), health issues within the family unit, wider family, or ourselves that makes sorting out our households challenging, to say the least. So...

Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us for support, adding their own ideas to help others out, storage ideas, even tips on actually getting those items out of the house which sounds so simple when you say it. Encouragement abounds here, and we do not criticise. EVER! We even try not to criticise ourselves as it's not helpful to anyone.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, don't know where to start, can't be bothered but really do want to be bothered...think you are lazy, just need to see it in print here...we'll help. We'll virtually fist bump your achievements - small or large, and virtually hug you when the need arises, and if you want a hug, just ask because we are here for you. Here for one another because we get it - the highs and the lows, the art of washing up is sometimes our great achievement of the day, but it's still an achievement.

Welcome to thread #6 of Hoarders Anonymous - Carrying On Sorting It Out

I also checked on the herbs I split repotted on monday from the supermarket. both are doing well. we have chives, mint and parsley now.

Nettleskeins · 23/09/2021 19:52

Chives mint and parsley...yum, I can feel a bulgar wheat salad on the horizon..

Meanwhile I've had various dejected defeated by mess days since the two student dcs left (journeys took it out of me) but on wed I tackled things again. Cleared landing to hoover, and hoovered. (Pile still there but a bit smaller)
Ditto utility...put things in cupboard which was freed up by previous chucking of small ornamental pots, freed up worktop and gave everything a scrub. Shook out cat bedding and dog bedding, resolved to chuck a few more manky blankets which had ended up in that corner. Washed some mothy slippers, hung out to dry.
Shook out rug in front room

Dusted coving in front room and hall.
Dusted record player and mantlepiece.
Threw away some beers cans from behind sofa
Washed floor
Put rug back
Dusted top of piano
Now surfaces a bit clearer.
Admittedly all the excess now piled on spare bed but at least I'm "challenging it to a duel".
Perhaps tmw.

Nettleskeins · 23/09/2021 19:56

My sister and I took a fair bit of hedge to the tip too in her car. Just one tiny bit of hedge but it seemed like a forests worth when it's on the pavement.
Two rooms are better than they were.
Four more to tackle.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/09/2021 16:30

Wow, well done nettle.

Things I have achieved recently include ordering PCR tests and reordering them when they don't arrive. Annoyingly.

I was shattered yesterday after effects of driving to mum's and harvesting pears apples and the first crop of plums (which we mainly missed as it is the first year the tree has grown any)

Worked on pulling brambles out of the pear tree. Lots more work to do. Mum enjoyed the visit out of the care home. Sod's Law DD got ill while we were there. She was in a different room. Or mum was outside a lot. Or they both wore masks except for eating when they were 2m ish apart.

Mum is well for now.

Nettleskeins · 28/09/2021 20:51

Today's achievements were one load of laundry and to find a duplicate of a book that I can now recycle Grin
DH has Covid so he has needed looking after and didn't really appreciate any tidying activities. Today we watched A Night to Remember, very sad Titanic film. I threw away the video of it two years ago, it is nice to think I was right to expect it would turn up in telly again - it's more of a treat when you dont "own" it.
Susan I am guiltily relieved we have no apples given to me this year... My childhood was spent processing windfalls into stewed apple. Delicious but I need to scrub Bannisters this year instead.
The teens rooms are still a disgrace despite them being gone two weeks, I'm very slow to get off sofa.

Nettleskeins · 28/09/2021 20:57

I'm struck by how long it has taken DH to get Covid ..he must have contracted it at Heathrow or on a plane...literally no attempt at segregating ourself from germs this past year, no cleaning if surfaces or door handles or groceries, teens socialising etc, lots of train journeys, me walking dog but it is only now he gets it. I think your mum probably would need to be in very close contact to catch something.

Miaowse · 28/09/2021 22:45

I’m stuck in the dreaded procrastination cycle, arrgghhhh

Hoarder's Anonymous, Part 6
Miaowse · 28/09/2021 22:52

I did delete almost everything from my Amazon wish list; it was a history of failed plans and dreams.

Nordicmom · 29/09/2021 00:18

Long time since I was here although I have updated the decluttering thread . I survived the move on Sunday it’s our second night here . So dead now and huge amounts to do with unpacking , organising , getting rid of packing materials etc , admin for here , emptying the rest of the dump and charity stuff at the old address which isn’t ideal atm but DH found petrol on school run this morning ( he was home had taken the day off on fri hell work from home and do the school run and the doggy daycare one too on the same journey unless the weathers so bad he’ll stay home . Last week before moving was just awful dh had a funeral go to on the Friday as well . We’re still missing a bunch of furniture and one piece is lost so I’ll have to chase that . Some I haven’t even ordered yet . A larder came today though . We got rid of prob over 20 pieces of furniture in the move , mattresses , bedding , towels , bathroom things like bins toilet roll holders etc besides what I’ve mentioned before . We have a big load waiting to go to dump in the old house and a few plastic storage boxes worth go to charity . Dh was thinking booking a waste collection guy to take the dump stuff all in one go . Then still need to booked the cleaners , move the bikes , sell his bike bike yet to

Nordicmom · 29/09/2021 10:16

School run only took 25 in total this morning and we were on time ! I was very stressed about it since the first time i did it on mon collecting DD I had trouble with taxis abs was a bit late . Hopefully we’ll get used to the new routine and it won’t be a problem

Nettleskeins · 29/09/2021 21:33

Miaowse, yes procrastination is very circular but maybe you have done a lot more today than you realise, and have not in fact procrastinated at all
Nordic, good that the school run (a source of much tension, I know, for me in old days) is "getting there"
Susan, I've planted perpetual (it sounds so good, almost magical) spinach too.

Amazon wish lists are to me just a game in the ether, I tend to let them dissolve without ordering anything (mine has" dyeing with plants in your garden on it" and" Rupert and
Magicians umbrella") At least its distracting.

Iv finally hoovered and dusted our bedroom, and cleaned loo and basin. Took off bottom sheet and hung out washed clean sheet on bannister. Duvet tmw. Slow progress but at least it is something to build on

So half a room progress a day..makes 14 days of cleaning to get through..

Nettleskeins · 29/09/2021 21:37

And good of course that you've moved house Nordic .."the larder came through" made me Grin though...erm I don't think our house really has anything resembling a larder. Maybe in heaven!!! It all sounds brilliant and fantastically organised.

Solo · 29/09/2021 22:51

Just checking in ladies. I hope you are all okay.

I've not really been doing my daily hour, but I've kept on top of the washing, washed up (not every day, though). Cleaned the bath and basin, but need to do the loo.

I've not been great in health terms for a while, but I'm okay, this too shall pass.

I have soooooo much to do!

Nordic congrats on moving home Thanks

Today was a very productive day at work, so a bunch of tasks have been crossed off my mammoth to do list.

DownUdderer · 11/10/2021 07:11

Hello. I've caught up on the thread. We've been in lockdown, but the end is in sight! Hooray. I can send one child into school on the 18th October and the other two on 25th October!

So the house is a shambles. Really messy. But I will get on top of things again once they're back at school.

I need to cook dinner in a minute, then hang out laundry.

We have millions of boxes, I've had lots of deliveries over the last 4 months. I've been keeping almost all boxes because the kids play with them. But I'll certainly get rid of them all as soon as I can.

We've got two birthdays coming up, so of course we'll have new toys to find homes for. It'll be ok.

I really just need to sweep, mop and do some tidying. I will tackle it once the kids are off my hands. But I will be prioritizing getting out of the house every single day once I am allowed! We've had to stay within 5km of our front door, so I will be going to the beach as soon as possibly! Can't wait.

Congtrats on moving house Nordic.

Solo · 11/10/2021 22:10

Hello hello!!

Very quiet in here at the moment. I must admit, this is the first time I've got my laptop out since my last post.

I must get going with this. I've done so little it's ridiculous.

I've kept up with the laundry. Washed up. Not much else - apart from work.

Down this time 20 years ago I was in Australia. I'd love to return, but being as I'm not jabbed, it's unlikely to ever happen :(. I hope you are able to get out to the beach soon.

I’m fervently looking forward to my next recycling collection as we’re drowning in cardboard. Aside from that, I took a few empty toners to the post office and sorted through a lower kitchen cabinet today. I am discarding various consumable items that are either out of date or I can’t see us ever eating.

I can’t quite remember when I last posted but I fairly recently added 5 books from a series to a charity shop box. Sadly the box is still in my living room…

DownUdderer · 12/10/2021 11:25

I've got a huge paddling pool that needs emptying. I've poured half of the water out of it this evening, I'll do the rest tomorrow. The garden started looking rather water logged, I'll let it percolate away over night!

I don't think holiday makers will be allowed into Australia until next year. Anyone inbound has to do two weeks in a hotel quarantine at the moment.

DownUdderer · 13/10/2021 06:44

I've emptied more water out of the paddling pool! The garden is waterlogged so I'll do more tomorrow! Our soil isn't that great out the back.

I've done laundry today. I will eventually get on top of it!

I sewed a face mask today.

We bought a pie maker, it's great! I really love it and we've used it lots already. So I'm sure we'll have left over chicken pies tonight. It does four small pies at once.

Miaowse · 13/10/2021 21:43

Ooh, what’s a pie maker? Does it cook the pies or just help shape them?

Miaowse · 13/10/2021 22:06

The recycling has now gone out for collection & the kitchen looks miles better.

I also donated a carrier bag of food to the food bank and sorted through the medicine cabinet again. There is more space in my cupboards, but the counters are still chaotic.

I’m a few loads of laundry behind too, DownUdderer.

How is everyone else getting on?

Solo · 13/10/2021 23:49

Laundry okay.
Washing up - needs doing from tonight.
Not much else.

Going to take some days off to try to get some done properly.

DownUdderer · 14/10/2021 04:23

The pie maker is a bit like a toasted sandwich maker, you put raw pastry in the bottom (it's shaped like a small pie) then add filling (the filling is pre cooked, so it's great for left overs), then you put pastry on top. Shut the lid, 15 mins later the pie is cooked, golden brown and piping hot! I love it! It does four at once.

I'm taking my daughter the an orthodontist appointment this afternoon.

Miaowse · 14/10/2021 08:27

Oh my goodness, my husband would love one of those.

Solo · 14/10/2021 16:35

Shock I'd love one of those!!
