Our upright Dyson has broken. I have no idea what to replace it with.
We have a cordless Dyson, for quick clean ups. I'm looking for a corded upright hoover for both hard floor and carpet, for a reasonably large house over 3 floors. Willing to spend in the £300 range. Our old Dyson was really heavy, so that is a consideration. Has anyone tried both a Miele Blizzard and a Shark anti hair wrap that could tell me if one is any better than the other? I'd rather not get another Dyson.

The shark anti-hair wrap is brilliant. It is far superior to the Dyson. I bought mine from Amazon on a good deal.

Thishalflife · 26/02/2021 08:33

Our shark is crap. Started off well but constantly blocking , loosing suction etc. We have a very very old Miele which we use for dirty clean ups (building work ) and it is still going strong. The only advantage of the shark is that it is cordless

Thisismynewname123 · 26/02/2021 08:37

@Thishalflife I'm looking at the corded version.

I have a corded shark. I like it, but it is heavier than I expected. The emptying function for the filth window is brilliant. And it seems to suck up the grime efficiently.

MamaNewtNewt · 26/02/2021 09:05

We've got a cordless shark and it is brilliant

Borogroves · 26/02/2021 09:06

Shark liftaway is brilliant.

Branleuse · 26/02/2021 09:09

I have the corded shark and I dont like it. It loses suction quickly. It would probably be fine for a working couple but not for a family with animals. Im disappointed considering how much i spent on the bloody thing. Very overrated

Thisismynewname123 · 26/02/2021 09:14

@Branleuse that's worrying to hear. Everyone says how brilliant they are. Which model do you have and how old is it?

OP posts:
Branleuse · 26/02/2021 09:38

it was this one sharkclean.co.uk/product/shark-duoclean-upright-vacuum-cleaner-with-lift-away-and-truepet-nv702ukt-zidNV702UKT

Ive had it less than a year. I loved it for a couple of weeks and then it has started being not as good. I did email them a couple of times to complain ,but I ended up just putting up with it rather than persisting, as im rubbish at returning online stuff. I wont get another though. I think ill go for a miele or something next time

ItsSnowJokes · 26/02/2021 09:48

I bought this shark one about 2 weeks ago and it's fab. Way better than the dyson animal it was replacing. It is heavy though but still great. I paid £269 on offer so look around and see if you can get a deal.

MissBridgetJones · 26/02/2021 09:50

We have the corded lift away Shark.
It's the best 'hoover' I have ever had. Anti hair wrap feature is brilliant.

I also have the cordless for quick clean ups

TheChippendenSpook · 26/02/2021 09:55

Don't buy a Sebo 'Felix'. They fall on your head every time you use the hose.

Cynderella · 26/02/2021 22:31

We have a Shark and I like it. It needs emptying frequently, but I've got used to that, and I prefer that there are no bags to buy and throw away. I do take it apart every few weeks and clean everything, but I don't have problems with it getting blocked, and we do have a lot of pet hair to vacuum.

Doublechins · 26/02/2021 22:40

Not a shark If you have hard flooring. They are brilliant on carpet but absolutely rubbish on hard flooring.

TuesdayinSeptember · 26/02/2021 22:48

Sebo by far. Our Shark LiftAway is truly awful. It has a miniscule dust container, there's a cloud of hair and skin flakes when you empty it, the filter is disgusting to clean and it blocks all the time. I'm praying it breaks soon so I won't feel bad binning it. Bagless hoovers are so dirty. My Sebo bags seal tightly then they can be disposed of. It only needs doing occasionally. So much cleaner

NewYearNewTwatName · 26/02/2021 22:50

Not a shark! OP there are loads of threads on here about poster who bought a shark on MNers recommendation and have regretted the it.

I have posted on those threads too. my shark was the biggest waste of money.

what always comes up on the threads is there is no middle ground, people either think they are the best thing since sliced bread or have endless problems with them, from beating the shit out of the fibres on the carpet, not sucking anything up, spitting stuff everywhere, constant blockages, the list goes on.

Robinonaspade · 26/02/2021 22:55

Sebo Felix is great and it can use the Dyson attachments with an adapter.

As someone has mentioned above it is more wobbly than the Dyson and can topple easily when hose is used, but I find with careful positioning its fine. It has two handles and is easy to move, just a very different design from other vaccums I've had. It fits under my sofa and cupboards and I find it's very powerful and leaves hard and carper flooring really clean and has a long power lead.

Vinotinto78 · 26/02/2021 23:00

A Shark is fab for carpet but shit on hard floors. Wish I’d known that prior to purchase, with having 90% hard floors and all 🙄. Otherwise, Miele.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 26/02/2021 23:01

Definitely seems to be either love or hate of the Shark! That really doesn't help me make a decision!
I have memories of my mum laying loads of newspaper down when she changed the bag in our old hoover (I'm talking, the 80s!). Bagless seems so much either than the faff she used to go through.
Are the Miele's all cylinder, as opposed to upright?

OP posts:
Symbion · 27/02/2021 17:22

It's not just Sharks that divide people. It seems to be the same with Dysons and Sebo and everything!

I'm no help. I'm on here because I threw my toys out the pram with my Miele today. I've never had a vacuum I haven't hated. Never tried an upright though. Maybe (grasping at straws) that might be what I'm doing wrong.

R2G · 28/02/2021 00:01

For those with shark problems. There are actually two filters to clean, there's a little one at the back of the hand held bit. Once we cleaned that out suction issues stopped and love it
