Our upright Dyson has broken. I have no idea what to replace it with.
We have a cordless Dyson, for quick clean ups. I'm looking for a corded upright hoover for both hard floor and carpet, for a reasonably large house over 3 floors. Willing to spend in the £300 range. Our old Dyson was really heavy, so that is a consideration. Has anyone tried both a Miele Blizzard and a Shark anti hair wrap that could tell me if one is any better than the other? I'd rather not get another Dyson.

Miele

Miele cat and dog here!

VanGoghsDog · 01/03/2021 15:58

I do wonder as the more "sophisticated" they get, the more rubbish they get!

I think the more fancy gizmos the worse they are really. And I'm not convinced by the bagless suction rhetoric. Plus emptying bagless ones is vile (though when I was poor I used to empty the bag on the bagged ones and replace it).

The Sebo doesn't work on power mode on my rug, which is the same issue for which I returned the Shark but I honestly can't go through the hassle of returning another one.

The Vax fills up after about two minutes, starts spittig stuff back out and needs flipping tweezers to get the filter clear so it works again. For another two minutes.

My Roomba was taken apart by my ex DSS and I've not tried to use it since but somehow can't bear to just chuck it on the tip.

The Dustbuster is rubbish. The Shark handheld is good.

The Miele cat and dog is good but the casing is cracked which seems to have reduced the suck a bit.

My mum has a barely used Henry she says she doesn't like (she's never used it) but I don't want it because they are a stupid shape for storage. Albeit would almost complete my collection!

Where do people keep all these multiple cleaners?! I expect your cupboards are very much tidier and more organsied than mine.

Well, I have ordered a turbo head and telescopic pole thing for my basic Miele cylinder, and a not-expensive Vax liftaway thing. I'm joining the ranks of the multi-vacuumed! How are you getting on with your decision making @Thisismynewname123 ?

PattyPan · 01/03/2021 16:24

I have a cordless shark anti hair wrap and I love it, it’s so easy to use and actually works on hard floor and carpet unlike my other one. The other one I have is a corded Hoover brand whose suction is so strong DP has to be the one to use is because I can barely move it across the carpet! Whereas the shark is a dream to use.

VanGoghsDog · 01/03/2021 16:26

The brush on two Sharks just didn't turn at all on my carpet, I had to send them back. It's only an IKEA rug!

Mumsnet failed to inform that I had all of these replies, until @Symbion just tagged me. I wasn't ignoring everyone intentionally!
So I went round in circles (I'm a terrible decision maker. I overthink every purchase I make). I ruled out the Miele, because my husband only wanted an upright (and to be fair, he probably does it more than I do, and as I wasn't too bothered, it gave me something to filter on). In the end, I got the Shark lift away anti hair wrap pet. My decision was made on price - it was £330ish in all the shops (John Lewis, Currys, AO.com, Argos) then I decided to look at Shark's website to see if I was missing any other models, and they had a weekend promotion on the same model for £200, so I just ordered it. It arrived today, so I've been testing it out and it seems good so far. I haven't done the whole house - just the stairs and landing. I'll probably continue using the cordless dyson downstairs where it's all hard floors, and use the Shark from stairs upwards where it's all carpeted.

I think we all need to club together and set up a hoover company and we can make the "perfect hoover" using the collective MN hoover knowledge. We'd make a fortune Wink

Well let us know how you get on with the shark - seems to be a real marmite hoover from trawling reviews - people either love and rave about them or hate them!

Good luck!

Symbion · 01/03/2021 17:33

Yes, OP I hope you turn out to be a lover not a hater 😁

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/03/2021 20:37

I hate my Shark Rocket corded with passion. It deposits a nice line of grit once the motor switches off , even if I keep it running a while over a bin. The tube blocks at the drop of a hat too.

I bought the Halo Capsual for quick cleans (much better ) and a Gorge 3in1 for cleaning (shampooing) the carpets .
It has a good vacuum too and can clean hard floors .
It is heavy and I do need to get DD to hold it securely so it won't fall on me on the stairs .

What about a Henry ?

Merename · 01/03/2021 20:54

Yes I’m too late clearly but came on to say Henry, £100, strong and lasts for years!

TuesdayinSeptember · 01/03/2021 23:45

@RavingAnnie

Thanks *@TuesdayinSeptember* - if I can ever bring myself to use it again, I'll try that Wink TBH I became so angry last time I used it, I'm not sure my husband will let me for the sake of his own well-being Grin
Grin To be fair, I've been hit on the head by an extremely tippy Panasonic, so understand your rage. But there is no rage like a Shark owner's rage. I have actually kicked the stupid flashy, twiddly knobbed and buttoned, complicated dirty little git several times.
