Any tips for cleaning the glass door of an oven?

I’m cleaning the oven with oven cleaner but it can’t go in the glass door, the inside of which is really dirty. I’ve wiped it down, used a sponge and fairy liquid and magic eraser but it’s still pretty bad.

Does anyone have any tips or products for cleaning it?

A damp dishwasher tablet works really well!

NoSquirrels · 13/11/2020 10:16

+1 for the dishwasher tablet!

wonkylegs · 13/11/2020 10:19

I got this stuff and it works well on the glass, it's not perfect for the rest of the oven but the glass came up like new www.astonishcleaners.co.uk/the-astonish-range/cleaning-solutions/sparkling-ovens-hobs/sparkling-ovens-hobs-oven-cleaners/oven-grill-specialist-cleaner-sponge/

Astonish oven and grill cleaner. It's an orange paste that comes with a scourer sponge, no fumes and you don't need to wear gloves, it brought my disgusting oven door up like new.

Welliesandpyjamas · 13/11/2020 10:20

Do you mean the gap between the glass panes in the door? If so, you can take the inside one out for cleaning.

Sorry if you didn't mean that Smile

chickenyhead · 13/11/2020 10:25

I can't take my door apart to clean the inside glass, I hate my stupid oven. Hate it.

It is some Smeg range thing. Who put 2 layers of glass which can't be taken apart to clean? Smells does. I broke the last door when I finally flipped out and tried to take it apart. £240 to replace the stupid door.

If anyone knows a way of cleaning the inside of dumb cooker doors like this PLEASE tell me.

Dishwasher tablet or oven pride. X

copperoliver · 13/11/2020 10:29

@chickenyhead could you send us a picture. X

Bar Keepers Friend! either dampen the glass then dust on and rub or mix to a paste

Also fantastic for glass on woodburners

chickenyhead · 13/11/2020 10:47

@copperoliver

Streaks and crusty crud is between glass. When I unscrewed the last door, I damaged the glue that holds the front on. I'm in no rush to do that again.

I always get an oven cleaning fella in to do mine, he manages to take all the glass bits apart without breaking anything!

LemonBreeland · 13/11/2020 10:52

I use pink stuff. It's an abrasive cream and works incredibly well. You can get it from places like Savers and B&M. You've reminded me that mine needs doing again

EBearhug · 13/11/2020 10:54

Can you remove the door? I cleaned my oven earlier in the first lock down, and I read the instruction book in case it had any advice, which meant I discovered I could flick a little catch by the hinge on each side and pull the door off entirely, which was helpful. Presumably depends on model though.

I used Oven Mate cleaner, which worked well but in the past I have used a mix of bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, which can also be effective.

helloxhristmas · 13/11/2020 10:55

Pink stuff. It's great. I go so bored in the first lockdown I actually cleaned my oven. It was strangely satisfying. I've gone back to paying now though.

chickenyhead · 13/11/2020 10:57

Ooohhh, there are oven cleaning guys? Wow. May look in to that.

Knittedfairies · 13/11/2020 11:05

I cleaned the oven during the first lockdown too; as upthread, strangely satisfying. (I usually have an oven cleaning service because the last time I did it, I dropped the glass down into the channels at the side of the door after I'd cleaned it rather too enthusiastically and broke the bits at the bottom that held it in.)

AvoidingRealHumans · 13/11/2020 11:11

After cooking while it is still hot/warm I use a sponge and rub a load of cream cleaner into it. When it
has cooled down I use a damp dish sponge (scourer side) and scrub it all off. I then dry off with kitchen roll and use glass cleaner for the shine, it comes up a dream.

Ron1984 · 13/11/2020 11:12

Bicarb of soda works well - just be gentle on the glass with whatever you use

Begonias · 13/11/2020 11:14

Another on recommending a damp dishwasher tablet

AzraiL · 13/11/2020 11:15

Check your oven serial number and look it up on YouTube, someone will hopefully have put on a video that shows you how to take the oven door off and remove the glass to clean it safely. Then use any of the recommendations listed by other posters.

AgeLikeWine · 13/11/2020 11:24

Yes.

Don’t. Life is too short to clean ovens.

copperoliver · 13/11/2020 11:26

@chickenyhead
I see what you mean very difficult. I have a little gap I mine so spray in the gap then pour water down until it is spray free. Maybe ring smeg and ask for some tips. X

Whydidibuythemclay · 13/11/2020 16:49

Thanks all! Went with the dishwasher tablet as I had those already. They really did work!

I’ve used The Pink Stuff and was quite amazed at how well it cleaned my oven.

userxx · 19/11/2020 13:39

@EBearhug Were the hinges at the bottom of the oven door ?
